The dancing aunties, wedding crashers, meeting your dad's sixth cousin's grandson's wife, staying up all night before the wedding, all sound familiar and I'm not even indian 😆

But you are a Pathan na...!! Festivity and celebrations are too much in our cultures... and quite elaborated ceremonies happen.

Generally...that means hum north Indians hi itna hungama karte hain shaadiyon mein😲 Because south Indians, Maharashtriyans, Bengalis...everyone is claiming that wahan weddings peaceful hoti hain!

I have seen that bengalis do not dance during weddings as for them dance is only rabindra sangeet based which is really boring( no offence to anyone as not all bongs like Rabindra Sangeet.) and the older generation finds faults in hindi and punjabi music. They do not mind singing but their knowledge is limited till 70s only and feel new music is not good.

One of my old fashioned relative got shock of their life when I was doing bangra on baari barsi on my friends wedding as Bangra is something I really enjoy and I find it easy. For them traditional bengali girl does not dances on such songs. 😃But I do not really care.

Not really, things have changed a lot. And you cannot blame their Rabindranatha love though. Dude has a song for every occassion and every mood.
but my dad and their friends were tuned in to their generation of Hindi and western songs and so are our generation.
Also fushion etc are done so much that you rediscover and find Tagore is really something. you can play a Tagore tune in piano and get away with claiming it as waltz.😆😆

We danced to Hindi songs and all sorts of stuff when my cousin got married in 2007 though. It was fun. and older people were actually encouraging us.
Your old fashioned relatives r really old fashioned then.😆😆 Their version of traditional bong girls do not exits in bong families either😆😆

I once attended a Marwari wedding which had almost month long ceremonies(including rehearsal for sangeet). Thats too much. I prefer 3 days of ceremonies, food, masti. Not more than that.

The list is true mainly for North Indian weddings. Elsewhere, e.g. at Bengali weddings, it is very bland and boring (from an outsider's perspective). There's little to do--- stare around, exchange a few pleasantries, gorge on goodies and back. 😆

Wish I got to be at a North Indian wedding do. Sounds crackling.

The Probashi Bengalis are ridiculously old fashioned ones. They are really struck in 1920's though. But my family is quite modern and does not bother itself with such things.
