Some oldies here might remember this ad for Zandu chyavanprash.😆😆

My topic though is not a laughing matter. It saddens me that our heroes are aging and yet find the same love and respect in their audience and heroines as soon as they hit 30-35 or take a marriage plunge..their career goes down the drain. There are exceptions like Sharmila, Rakhee, Dimple and now Kajol. But still they are very few in number.

Recently I read an artcile that Rajnikant was stylised by Manish Malhotra. This guy who is 65-66, a grandfather is still playing hero to 18-19 year old girls.

Why do we have this bias?

maya..we were having a discussion similer to this on SRGMP section and none of males had a answer to that !!.I think still people are gender baised..not only in movies but in real life ,virtua life too..I mean how many times u see females are addressed as di or didi on forum ..and males are just addressed as ID+ ji or ji or just there name? do u think males are more insecure about their ages..or do they never age..If a female is a bot older then a guy there is a big ho ha about it..why? 😕

c i wud 1st make 1 thing clear don think i am a male chauvinist. well movies r not made out of emotion but 4 earning money and commercial purposes.

i agree rajnikanth is acting wid heroines who r younger than his daughters but the truth is he still carries the charishma n attitude which even the younger stars 2day do not possess. n another thing is the movie watching audience consisits of 60% mass audience who adore their matinee idols. but in case of heroines its not possible. people respect the older heroines but cannot c them romancing in their 60's. this is not the case juzz in india even in hollywood stars like jackie chan, arnold peirce brosnan r above 50.

this is my opinion brick bats r welcome 😊

Usually Men do not call another men Old budhdha. But along with men, women will call another woman Budhdhi. I am just being honest here. Women are women's worst enemies.

35-40 yrs young woman ko budhi kaha jaata hai Indian society me. And women are supposed to be in their peak in their 30s 😳 Why can't women of 50 or 60 yrs be called young women 😳 ?? Men at 65 is still consider hot 😕 . Kya scwed picture hai . It all boils down to gender bias. Nothing more.

Maya, I think the discrimination is rooted in Indian psyche nd culture. Masses still consider males to be dominant and in control hence aging heros romancing teenage girls. The same masses treat women as commodity and either put them on a pedestal as a sati savitri or trample her down to lowest level of living form. Mostly, women are treated as ornaments and assumed to have no grey matter in their brains. Men like to see them within the boundary walls of their homes as a maa, bhabhi, behen etc. Men have problems with smart working women too....phir filmstars ki toh baat hee chhod do. Most of the heroines are eye candies in the movies to begin with. Hence, this unacceptance of aging heroines romancing to their heart's content.

Even in Indian society, if the wife dies early, the man usually marries another younger unmarried "girl" ... not a widowed woman. The bias is deeply rooted in Indian psyche. The dakiyanoosi culture is to be blamed here.

You know the story of DCH rt?😃 Tthe relationsip was looked down by all. Why? Because there was older woman and younger man. Sure we have a Nishabd now but that was actually objectionable because the older guy was also a married guy.

In Hollywood the actors suit the character. We don't see Pierce Brosnan in College. We have Terry Hatcher and Diane Keatons with these guys and if we have Kristen Dunst with the 50 year old actor then they make it clear that the guy is old. Mostly he is a widower, a divorcee etc.

But a 64 year old Rajnikant still goes to college and calls a 35 year old actress his 'Amma' and romances a 18 year old. Very difficult to digest.

You argue that he carries himself well? Then that is what my point is. My point is we don't see our heroes aged. I say that Rekha carries herself very well being in 50s. Does she act as a lead in mainstream cinema?

Looked down by all??? Who were the audiences by which this assumption was made, I don't think so. Ask them to quit watching Madhuri, Juhi, Kajol ..movies.😊
