Hello Everybody, I am an ardent follower of Diya aur Baati Hum. My family follows the serial religiously. We think it is a very well written drama with strong characters and social messages. Since the serial aims at sending out social messages and it is the most watched drama on Indian television, I had a random thought some time back. Now that Sandhya has graduated as an IPS officer, she can be shown handling some difficult cases with honesty and dedication. Here is a compilation of a few of the scenarios I have imagined. I think the forum is the best place to share them.
1. Rape
I know you guys must be wondering what is wrong with this girl. But trust me this is the most serious issue that the country faces at the moment. The rape scene can be omitted and a background description can be narrated. Or they can handle the issue in their own way. CVs are best at it. Sandhya could be shown as the investigating officer. She tries to arrest the culprits and bring them to court but she is stopped by higher corrupt forces with threats of transfer or harming her family. This is quite common in our country and if the track is handled well, it will be able to educate the society as well as show the prejudices that people hold against rape victims. This show is has the capability to do so.
2. Dowry
The show has already touched this subject in the past. But it would be good to see Sandhya tackle the situation in her capacity as a police officer.
3. Female Foeticide
Probably this track could bring out Kanha's truth by finally making Meenakshi realise that girls are as important as boys. I think it would be successful in highlighting this horrific crime in the country.
4. Domestic & Child Abuse
One of the few crimes whose screams remain confined within the four walls of the house. Wife beating and torturing the family members by the male members of the family is one of the most gruesome acts of crime that has bound the country.
5. Honour Killings
How can Murder & Love go hand in hand. I think Sandhya would be able to take up the case of a nearby village or town where such practices are prevalent.
6. Alcohol & Drug Abuse
Not much action is taken for families who deal with an addict and are subjected to their torture day in and day out. It is an important but much neglected issue.
7. Ragging, murders, corruption, illegal land acquisition etc. are some of the other cases which can be highlighted with the right story line and actors in cameo roles. Diya aur Baati Hum is the most watched show on Indian television and I truly believe it has the right potential to mould atleast a few sections of the society.
Please let me know if you agree with me and kindly add some of the social issues which I might have missed out. For now it is important that the show encourages people to go out and vote. Sandhya and her team can be shown as a team who are assuring safe and ethical voting in Pushkar. It has a lot of potential and I am truly looking forward to how the show will shape up in future 😊
