IPOH: South Korea succeeded in qualifying for the semi-final of the Azlan Shah Hockey Tournament by defeating Pakistan 4-2 here today.
The match was suspended after 27 minutes of play on Monday when a power failure hit the Sultan Azlan Shah Stadium in the northern city of Ipoh. However, the match was completed today.
When the match resumed today both teams locked at 2-2. None of the two teams could score any goal during the remaining eight minutes of the first half which ended in a draw.
However, in the second half, Korean players made various attacks on Pakistan's goal post. They succeeded in the 48th minute when Cha Jong-bok netted a goal to make South Korea take lead.
Their dominance over Pakistan continued throughout the second half. Eight minutes before the end, You Hyo-sik made a goal due to a blunder by a Pakistani defender to consolidate the lead.
Pakistan could not make any goal till the end and South Korea won the match 4-2 to qualify for the semi-final.
On Monday, Tariq Aziz and Imran Muhammad scored for Pakistan, while South Korea's goals came from Kang Moon-kweon and Jeong Yun-sang.
In the second match today, Australia outplayed China by a huge 7-2 margin and were placed in the semi-finals.
