It's been a while since I watched a feel-good rom-com. The last good Hindi film which I watched this year was Queen. 2013 was disappointing in terms of romantic love stories. Yes, there was YJHD and Lootera but they were not above imperfections. Something was missing in those stories. Apart from Barfi! which released in ... Continue reading '

I think Arjun was good too ... and music was peppy!

For me Lootera way above than Yeh jawani,2 States...Common comparing Lootera is same as comparing a classic with a crass..I liked 2 states though

Lootera was a snoozefest compared to 2 States. I loved 2 States; a little too long though.
One of my favourite scenes in the movie was when Krish visits Ananya's house in Chennai and a banana leaf was laid in front of them, to be served food on and for a moment, he was wondering what to do with it till Ananya said that was the plate.
One of my American friend ate food using spoon from the Banana leaf meal.😆 Quite a funny sight with rasam running away from the leaf and she trying to contain it.🤣

Curious - do they still eat off the leaf right now? How many leaves do they go through? Aren't plates more practical? Are the leaves reusable? lol

I was expecting similar disastrous impressions of college life in 2 States. BUT thankfully in this film - students LOOKED like students, students did NOT own Ferraris, there were NO stereotypically gay or sexy teachers, NO girls roaming around in bikini and there were no life-and-death marathons. The college life depicted in the prestigious IIM-A stayed true to how the college life is in reality. There is a scene where Ananya asks Krish "what are your parents expecting after graduation?" - these are the kind of conversations that students have. The placement day brought me so much of nostalgia. Even though in a very small portion, I felt Varman did capture the culture and essence of college life in India - kudos!

This I really agree with, it was nothing OTT, different from what they normally show in movies about Indian School/College life. That's why this movie was better than some movies which have the same story line.

😆 One more Q along the same line, do they sell banana leaves in the market too ? because I am sure they would run out of the leaves from the trees in the backyard , right ?

No its usually used at some traditional functions like a pooja or marriage. Its easy to dispose and biodegradable. In my hometown in rural India, there are still homes where they take care of 4-5 cows so most of the meals are on banana leaves and then we just dispose it off in the cow shed where the cows eat it.

Its the cheapest and most practical thing to do cos there are many Banana trees around South India. N its an orthodox thing to use inside the temples.

i havent watched it yet but read the book, 2 states has a great story. I am sure it's better than many romcoms which came out last year including Lootera. yes , lootera was a good movie but contrary to what everyone says here..i thought it was strictly ONE time watch. Too slow and snoozefesty.

2 states story has drama, romance, conflict..what's not to like. If they portrayed the story right, i m sure it will be a great watch.
