"I love you without knowing how, or when, or from where. I love you simply, without problems or pride. I love you in this way because I do not know any other way of loving but this, in which there is no I or you, so intimate that your hand upon my chest is my hand, so intimate that when I fall asleep your eyes close." - Pablo Neruda, 100 Love sonnets
********************
Parvathy Rudra Pratap Ranawat was her name now. It was the very same name that she hated when he uttered it in the late hours of night after filling her maag with her own blood, calling her his adarm patni. But time changed everything.
The hatred that reflected in her eyes was no longer there. They were now filled with love and devotion for the man who was her everything.
She had never even imagined that she would be married to a bsd officer but who could stand against destiny. It was as if they were meant to be with each other no matter what happens.
She thought back to the time when they had met each other for the first time in the deserts of Birpur. He came as her protector, fighting goons without even a second thought for a girl who was a stranger to him.
That day she was half thankful and half terrified of him but he was a complete gentleman instructing the constable to take her home even when the other officers protested claiming that she was a part of the smuggling ring. Since that day he always remained her protector no matter what happened between them or around them.
The next time she met him was at one of the ceremonies which preceded her marriage but their interaction was minimal. She was shocked to see him there in local outfit but did not ponder on it as she was distracted by Bindi and her soon to be husband.
She remembered how the very same day she complained to Bhoolenath that her future husband's name was not one of His as her groom's name was Varun. At the time she never realized that her other half was someone else who indeed had the Lord's name.
Their next meeting was at the battleground where he had turned into a destroyer for his country and all she could do was scream terrified as she watched him shoot her new husband.
She was confused, terrified and devastated as she sat in the bsd office not able to believe what happened.
Jallad was the name she had given him, the man who destroyed her dreams. She prayed for death thinking that it was the only way to escape from his clutches but this time her prayer went unanswered as even death could not touch her with Rudra pratap ranawat standing in front of her as a shield.
Her mind was distorted as she laid in the hospital bed trying to understand how her life came to this. The very same day he saved her again from the doctor who tried to kill her.
He ran to her when she started getting restless from the nightmares, trying desperately to calm her and all she could do was scream and tell his senior officer to save her from the jallad.
She still remembered the fear and helplessness she felt when he first brought her to the haveli. She was all alone with no hope for a future. She thought that all her dreams died at the border along with her bhaarathis but again she was wrong.
At that time she did not realize that he came to her as her savior, protecting her from ever entering the horrible life that was waiting for her at the other side of the border.
She thought that he was devil's incarnation thinking that he was trying to justify the killings of innocent by labeling them as traitors but what she didn't see was the desperation and sorrow of a soldier who was trying to bring justice to his fellow soldiers who died that day at the border protecting their country.
But no matter what was happening, he always protected her even when he thought she was supporting the traitors.
He stood in the front of her and took the slap from kaakisa which was meant for her and all she could do was stare at him in shock.
She remembered how he tried to make her sign the papers by blackmailing her with marriage and intimidating her by invading her personal space.
But again he turned into her savior as soon as he heard that the haldi that was applied on her was poisoned. She still remembered how desperately he was trying to get the haldi off her as if his life depended on it.
Even when she hit him on his head at Shivrathri mela, all he tried to do was stop her from going with tejawat even in his half conscious state but once again she refused to see the truth in his eyes.
At last when the truth came out, she could only stand shocked, not knowing what to do and again he in the form of his Rudraksh protected her.
When he shouted and accused her of trying to kill his father, she was devastated but refused to leave him. She became gouri for him but again he found out with just a glimpse at the first letter of his name on her wrist which he himself wrote with mehendi.
She took care of him when he was drunk and that was the day she saw and understood the lost child in him who was craving for love.
He told her to get married to sumer if she wanted forgiveness. She was devastated but she still refused to believe that he really wanted to her to leave.
The day she found out about the doll, she understood that the bond they shared was much deeper that she had known. They were destined to be each other's for eternity.
She forgot everything as she proposed to him in front of hundreds of people. He was so shocked and angry that he threw the sindoor box away but once again destiny played its game and the vermillion filled her maang once again telling them that they were meant to be.
She stood on one leg for him in the rain to prove her love which caused him his job.
He was devastated. He wanted revenge and pulled her into the courtyard, marrying her then and there, giving promises to not to be hers ever.
But again he lost to destiny. He broke all the promises one by one bringing them closer and closer with each broken one.
And now as she sat waiting for his return with her hand on her huge belly she could only sigh in content thinking about the man who turned her life upside down.
He was the most devoted husband that she had ever seen, loving her with his heart and soul. He took care of her with so much tenderness that it was hard to think that he was the same person who she ones called Jallad.
When they found out about her pregnancy, he hugged her so close to him with tears in his eyes that she forgot to breath.
He was always around enquiring about how she was feeling. He rubbed her back every day as she puked her guts out, took every step with her ready to catch if she fainted, visited all the shops known to him for satisfying her late night cravings and fed her food with his own hands earning evil looks from kaakisa and a smile from baapusa.
Paro could not help but smile thinking at how he glared at kaakisa as she tried to take a chocolate that he had brought for his wife making kaakisa take a step backwards.
"Paro, kya kar rahi hai yahan? Raath bohut ho gayi aur tume sona chahiye." Mythili said as she came to her. (Paro, what are you doing here? It is already late and you need to sleep.)
They were alone in the house as rest of the family had gone for a pooja and Rudra to his office for an urgent meeting.
Another smile adored her face as she thought back to how Rudra was hell bend on not going with her so close to delivery date and general saab had to threaten him with all the things he could come up with. Finally she took pity on him and forced Rudra to attend the meeting by promising him with the right to name their child.
"nahi jeeja. Unke bina mare ko neend nahi aathi."
(no jeeja, without him I won't get any sleep)
Suddenly she felt a sharp pain shooting through her.
"ahh..." She screamed making mythili run to her.
"Paro, kya huwa?" she asked concerned. (Paro, what happened?)
"jeeja, bohut dard ho... Ahh.." ( jeeja, It hurts)
"hey bhagawan lagtha hai apka baccha aane wala hai. Yehan toh koyi bhi nahi hai.Mein jaldi devarsa ko phone laagthi hoon, tum tab tak bait sakthi ho na?" mythili asked to which Paro could only nod.
(oh god, I think your child is coming. Nobody is here at the moment. I will call devarsa. Are you going to be okay when I do that?)
Minutes passed as hours and Paro battled pain after pain as she held her jeeja's hand.
"Paro..." Rudra screamed as he ran into the haveli with aman close behind.
He had been in the meeting when he got a call from mythili and he ran without even a glance at his senior officer. Aman seeing his boss's state realized that it had something to do with Paro and followed him.
Paro could only utter a weak "major saab" as Rudra lifted her in his arms and ran to his jeep.
Aman took the driver's seat as Rudra sat in the back with a tired Paro in his arms.
Mythili who sat next to him didn't know what to do as she looked at a terrified Rudra clutching Paro in his arms. She was shocked to see his otherwise tough devarsa looking as if he was dying a slow death with every cry that came from his wife.
"Paro, sab kuch teek ho jayega. Paro, ro math...Paro..."
(Paro, everything is going to be all right. Please don't cry)
"dard ho raha hai major saab." She replied with tear filled eyes which broke his heart.
(It hurts major saab)
Aman too was terrified but managed to continue driving. The pain in Rudra's face was too much for him to watch. It was as if Rudra was the one who feeling the pain more than Paro herself.
As soon as they reached the hospital, Rudra ran inside screaming for the doctor with his wife in his arms.
As he paced outside the labor room he could not help but pray for the safety of his wife and child who were his everything.
He thought back to how Paro had come into his life, turning it upside down. She was his reason for living and he was sure that he won't survive in a world where she didn't exist.
Minutes turned into hours and by then Rudra had threatened half of the hospital staff for not taking proper care of his wife who was screaming in agony. At last the doctor had to bring him inside to show him that everything was going perfectly.
As Rudra entered the room, the scene that greeted was unbearable as he never could see his Paro in pain.
He rushed to her side and took her hand in his. He then took the towel from the nurse and wiped the sweat from her forehead.
"major saab..." Paro whispered in exhaustion in between contractions and all Rudra could do was kiss her forehead.
Despite his protest and threats he was ushered outside where he continued his pacing. The whole Ranawat family was there now but no one dared to approach Rudra as he looked beyond wild.
As the doctor came outside after what felt like hours, he rushed to her.
"Congratulations Major, you have a healthy baby boy."
"And Paro?"
"Exhausted but perfect. They are getting cleaned up. You can see them in a few minutes." She said with a smile making Rudra sigh in relief.
His eyes filled with tears as he looked at his son for the first time. He was terrified but could not help but take the baby from the nurse as he looked at his innocent face which was perfect replica of his father.
The baby opened his hazel brown eyes looking at his father for the first time and entire family could only marvel at the perfection.
Minutes later as Rudra sat with Paro and his baby boy in his arms, he could not help but smile as how destiny with all the twist and turns had brought him an angel as his wife and changed his life forever.
