From higher education i mean getting a bachelors degree.

Like obviously yes..some of you might think upon reading the topic. And to me, definitely yes coz getting a degree is a matter of prestige and also you feel better as a person when representing yourself in the society.

But basically, this thing just made me wonder from my last topic :

https://www.indiaforums.com/forum/koffee-with-karan/619306/noone-completed-college

I'll just quickly sum it up .. basically, after seeing the latest episode on the kapoors, randhir kapoor had claimed that none of them in the Kapoor family had ever completed their college degree except for ranbir kapoor. He didn't seem to be joking and was genuinely meaning it.
So considering that they are already veryy successful and rich and famous, they perhaps do not even need any degree. Many from my last topic even claimed that neither kareena nor karisma completed college either.

So, for star kids, generally, (if they have totally made up their mind abt joining the filmline), do they even have to bother getting into college? I mean look at kareena and karisma.. they are well know and earning a good enough amt of money....infact more than some ppl who have degrees.

At the same time the actors at present who are not star kids like Preity, Shahrukh and Amisha... these ppl have emphasized alot on the importance on education in their interviews despite choosing the film line... why? for a back up plan? Ppl like Jiah Khan and Hansika Motwani, yet chose to start veryy young. Were they wrong in doing so or 2-3 more yrs would have made them lbuddhi?

So my question is finally... Is higher education really necessary for ppl who have decided to choose the film line as a career? coz ultimately talent counts. but luck also plays a part. Will your response differ if the aspiring actor is a star kid?

Ya i kinda agree with what you say to coz look at Twinkle Khanna... her career in films did not flourish as successfully as the kapoor sisters. Eventually she had to bank on her college degree for interior designing and now, she has two big shops in mumbai .. And not to forget she's a starkid herself.

Education is very important in life but education does not necessarily mean a degree. One can be educated without a formal degree. Bill Gates is a drop out, Ambani never went to college neither did JRD TATA. People with formal degrees can many a times end up being morons - Bush is one of them!! Many IIM graduates end up as failures in life, many end up failing businesses big time. ENRON is a classic example in the US - the ceo was a PhD, the CFO was an MBA from harvard.

But yes - try learning medicine or surgery without a formal degree and you are sunk!! because you need practical TRAINING. Ditto for an airline pilot!

Einstein defined education aptly: education is what remains - when you have forgotton everything that was taught to you in college!!

BUt all said and done one must get some post secondary formal education as it helps you develop a professional network of contacts and learn a useful skill.

Azim premji of WIPRO never had a degree till a few years ago. I doubt if Mukesh Ambani or Anil Ambani would have done any worse without formal education either.

👏Agreed.
But as I stated earlier .. by higher education, i meant completing college n getting a degree. And my focus was not about the importance of education generally for everyone in every field. Since i got the idea from a kwk episode, I was specifically talking abt and for the ppl (star kids or aspiring actors) who want to take the film route but you didn't mention anything abt tht.. so u think is it necessary in their case to go to college to complete their studies first?

Nice topic.

Well my answer is depends on who the individual is that will take up education?

Education is something we gain at all age there is no limitation at 50year old can learn and so can a 5year old, its a priority, and as children we are taught the importance of achieveing a degree in order to be successful in our career. I was certainly taught that from the begining.

However, education does not neccessarily mean business studies, rocket science, english lit etc. Education can be gained in all aspects whether it is acting, danceing, or fashion designing.

These actors may not be so much educated into these acedemic subjects, but they are certainly educated into how to become successful actors and actresses. Success does not necessarily come upon education, today there are many successful business men and woman that have gained profits and popularity for their company by billions without even knowing how to spell business, they did not have a degree in business but had the capability to do well and have done well.

We cannot measure a person by their education level, its unfair, not insulting anyone but many of us have parents who have not completed their education, however they still give us the morals to achieve something big in life? Why because they understand the value of skills and therefore being educated would not help unless you have those principles taught by your parents. Now i am going off track

Coming back to the actors, all i want to say is, if it came upon us to play their role just once, we'd probably fail because its their job they are experts in acting, and that is education, if the actors were asked to run a business or a clinic for a day they'd fail, why? because its our job and we cant exchange

My point is, everyone has their own strengths and weaknesses, a degree is not the end to our education, we take on many skills to become successful in our career, actors do the same, when they act they may fail however they take on many skills such choerography, direction, production etc.😊

Everyone plays a part and their part something they are expert at, whether they have education or not, they have the stemina and the skills they can do anything.

Being a star kid or not, I think education is very important. Always have a plan B. It's great to follow your dreams be it, the filmline or any other thing you would like to be. I just think a degree provides an extra security just if you need it. 😛

👏very well elaborated Meg! And i agree with what you say.. Thanks for replying!

But maybe we can bring this on to another level, Lets say for the common ppl.. do you think its important to go with their passion or more neccessary to work merely you know daily ricebowl? Basically i've got frenz who want to do the fashion designing but the market for fashion in singapore is way competitive coz most of the boutiques are run by foreign companies. Its very difficult for a local to establish her signature. Her second choice however is to take up IT, which will secure a job in future. Basically, she's pretty unsure if she can make it out as a designer since the market in Singapore is still relatively small and only the best are able to make a resonable amount to live. So she has finally decided to get a degree in IT first. And then give herself some time and if she can make her mark in fashion in tht period of time, she'll continue. If not, she'll get bk to IT.

So relating this case to our current topic, we all know that bollywood is very competitive. So for these starkids and aspiring actors should they complete their studies (so as to be capable of getting a job in the future if needed) before trying their luck in movies?
