Well obviously if any of u read my posts for the past week - u will know I am not telling this! I titled this like this - so that I can address an issue I have seen being discussed randomly in posts.

I LOVE Sanaya as everyone knows. And let me look at this from a 200% selfish point of view of a Sanaya fan who doesn't care a damn for the show or the other actors! cz that is as extremist as its possible to get right? (Because I am talking to the people thinking about ONLY her apparently and is so worried that her talent is not being utilized)

1. Paro - is being butchered.
2. Paro - is not being butchered.

If Paro is not being butchered those people have no issues over this - so I am laying that out of this.

Now lets come to the people who think Paro the character is being butchered, Ok let's accept that the character is being butchered - aka its diverting from the initial character sketch and has gone in a tangent u don't agree with.
And the rest of this post is addressed at those people who care ONLY about her scope of performance as they believe that she is being wasted!

Even if its the case an actress like Sanaya, she has played a substantial role in 5 shows before RR.
1 Sameera in LRL - who was quirky, fun, pampered westernized brat
2 Sanaya in RKB - She played a westernized negative role
3 Gunjan in MJHT - She played a college kid, a nerdy, quiet studious one who was very very reserved
4 Khushi in IPK - quirky, nutty, insane, dramaqueen and loads of fun n so childish and immature
5 CC in CC - A today's normal girl

Now in RR she gets to play a girl who is from an extremely traditional backdrop, as rural as it can be.
She is timid, shy and introverted when the show started. And then as the whole world shook under her feet she changed.

Now we have a gentle soul, naive, as innocent as can be girl who is resolute, has a quiet strength and is stubborn when she thinks she wants to get something she thinks is the right thing!

And one question I want to ask the people who say SANAYA is being wasted and she should quit - is this

She has never ever played a role like Paro before this. The placid countenance, the lilt in her gentle words, the way she would talk slowly.. project such serenity and calm that you are left starring.. and projects a calm and patience that is palpable..
She doesn't hurry, she doesn't raise her voice, 100 expressions do not move in her mobile face.. there is a placidity that is so evident the moment u see her.

Now coming to Sanaya Irani the actress, if u have watched one single off screen segment of hers you will know that Sanaya is NOTHING like Paro in real life. She talks nineteen to dozen, she is loud, playful, unbelievably impatient, she would dance around on her own when she doesn't have anything else to do.. she will tease others and laugh loudly..And will always talk before a thought has even half formed in her head! The last thing she is is diplomatic and slow or a deep thinker who weights each word before she spills it!

Now I will tell one thing - for someone who is as bubbly as it can get, to dull down the impulses and give such a restrained performance like Paro's is no easy feat.
If you are a fast talker, it u are bubbly - try this out, try talking slowly, becoming placid.. and try making someone believe that you are that gentle soul that is so placid, epitome of calm serenity.

And you will realize just what sort of effort and talent would go in to pull it off!!

Anyone who has never known Sanaya in real and first time ever saw her as Paro would be shocked seeing who she really is in real life. That she is pulling off a role so unlike herself or anything else she has done before this with so much elan and aplomb that she makes you believe in that inherent innocence and the soft gentleness called Paro..
Watch her face, its no longer mobile and bubbling with expressions as she is in real or when she was Khushi! Its so so different!

So here is my two cents. You might not like how a character is shaping up or, you will think that the CVs r cutting short on some emotions etc..

But understand that acting, nuanced acting is subtle. Its not always the histrionics that make the best acting! Sanaya had her own share of them! And she excelled in them as Khushi.
And this acting she does as Paro, despite her not showing extreme emotions is utilizing Sanaya to the max to give life to a character she is nothing similar to!

She doesn't have to show depths of despair or to have million dialogues to get a good scene she can sink her teeth in to.
And just cz she doesn't speak as much as the other lead, or doesn't have verbal expressions that does not mean she is any less used or performing!!

I will take some examples

1. the scene when she sees Rudra standing in front of her in that rain. Look at her eyes, they light up, her whole facial expressions become uplifted.. she says just 2 words - 'aap agayi' - and yet everything else be it her relief, her need to prove her point all of that is conveyed..

2. when he takes her to the bed and leaves, her eyes.. so vulnerable.. that it reaches out to you...

3. On yesterday's episode - On that bed, when he asked her to come and sleep on it, she showed subtle surprise, then when he grabbed that quilt she looked incredulous and shocked, and then the moment she realized that it was a mouse who was making the sound, her expressions, then when she looks worried as she explains that its a mouse, then the indulgent look as he growls...
Sanaya is not simply drifting through each of these scenes! She might make these look effortless but restrained acting needs much more effort than when one has the freedom to let go and go all out!

4. In that scene where Paro forwards her burnt hand to him. the moment he tightens his hold, her eyes squeeze tight, as tears well in them.. and she forces them open as she struggles to straighten her features so that they don't give her away.. And as she continues to bear the pain a wobbly smile comes on her face as she forces herself to smile, to blush, even while tears brim in her eyes which she tries to contain so that they don't spill over..
And finally she looks determined and triumphant as she looks at kakisa and resolves to protect him..
Do u honestly think that pulling off a scene such as this one is a stroll in the park? SANAYA is NOT in pain! She is not actually trying to hide her pain, BUT she has to actually show on one hand that she is in pain. And on the other she has to show that she is trying to cover it up and smile, yet she is in pain - AND she has to do all of this without even the freedom of using a single whimper, hiss or a gasp!

One actually has an easier time when the have dialogues to express themselves.. but when one has to talk so less and show so much more it takes more effort, more talent and hard work.. cz words allow u to express easily.. make the onlooker believe as its easier to tell them exactly what goes on ur face..

But here she instead of that does a tremendous job as she within a scene that spans maybe 2 mins would express an entire conversation without uttering a single hmm..

People ask whether she allows the directors to butcher a character and plays along.. I would ask them, after these scenes I have explained, which honestly I see in every single episode when she would within minutes express a myriad of expressions, how is she as an actress getting wasted?
She gets a HUGE scope to perform every single day! That demands more and more from her to give a stellar performance!

Maybe there r loop holes in writing.. maybe Paro is not what u would want to see.. But don't just cz u see an inconsistency as per ur own view refuse to see the stellar performance she gives!!

And honestly one thing I am glad is that the industry critics that wrote every article till now had identified this subtlety.. they have mentioned many flaws with the show many of which i indeed agree to.. but not one of them failed to see this amazing performance she does in each episode!

If the makers make Paro react to Rudra instead of making her act on her own that does not mean that - SANAYA IRANI does not get to perform! In each individual scene she outperforms herself!

cz acting is not all about talking. Its about emoting.. and if the crutch of words is out of an actress and she has to do without them, and she still does it with aplomb she is instead of being wasted due to lack of dialogues is actually giving one hell of a performance!!

I have read here that many think that she got the role because of her beauty - I will not deny this fact as it most definitely has played a role, u cannot have the male lead ranting 20 times in an episode 'khoobsurat aurat' at someone and not expect people to ask if he is crazy unless the girl is actually stunning.
But Paro is much much more than a beautiful face!

AND U cannot play that level of innocence and guilelessness unless you are an actress par excellence..cz WE NOR those actresses are ANYWHERE near as guileless or innocent or naive as Paro is.
That trust and naivety that shines through Paro's eyes is Sanaya Irani acting! not jsut being herself!
Just because she is beautiful she hasn't got this role. And YOU who tell that and reduce her for a beautiful face are the people who are selling her short and not the producers and writers who each day give her scenes that needs all of her acting talent to pull off so that the scene becomes believable!

I have no issues if u believe Paro is beyond ur realm of thinking. I am ok with that, but just because a certain character changes characteristics does not take away from the actress that portrays the role, because even that changed characteristics need to be portrayed by that actress in each subsequent scene and moment from then on cz she doesn't get to stand without doing anything just cz the characteristics she has to perform on day 10 is different from what she portrayed in day 1! Because each and every one of that is acting and takes talent!

I am not imposing my view on anyone, just differentiating that character inconsistency does not necessarily take anything away from an actress's acting scope.

Anyway am off to watch the episode now. This post was on the making from a few days and now only I managed to sit down and type it all out.

So any replies will come much later.

Phew ... that was a long post ... but a great read!!! Agree with every word you say, Sunara ... and after today's episode, I'm a happy camper. I am falling in love with Sanaya and her acting all over again ... I first became her fan five years ago because of her ACTING, not because of her looks, ... and with every role, she re-confirms my faith.
Will come back to write more on this ... just want to say, ST tweeted after the marriage that the real story starts now ... and I can see that happening.

Sunara 👏👏👏

And a HUG 🤗

I am extremely busy today so will come back over the weekend. And yes need to read this marvelous post again...

And believe you me, I am glad as hell that YOU penned it.

Havent seen the episode yet.

So here is my POV...

Hi Sunara,

You have extensively explained the characterization of Parvati.

There is not much that I can add apart from given my POV on Paro. Firstly to ME she is not a regular woman of today. Does not think nor behave like one. And hence many of the women watching this show just cannot relate to her. Because she does not think like any one of us. She belongs to an era of our mothers and grandmothers. And I am sure many agree women like Paro existed and still do may be.

ST hasn't just picked his Paro out of someone else' storytelling. Thank goodness for that...because then she would be like any other current day sassy, know it all heroine. But then if we think about it, where did this character come from? Surely someone he has known. Paro may have shades of Parvati but she is very earthly. I strongly believe Paro's character was born out of the many Paro-like women ST has known in his life. He surely needs to be given credit for that.

What would be Paro's character traits? Let's sum them up.

A young orphaned girl yet highly emphatic to others sufferings/pain. Demure, shy, very lady-like, innocent, soft-spoken, sincere, clever, cautious, wears her heart on her sleeve, straight-forward, pious, sensible, fearless, patient, wise, relationship builder, and a bhakt of Bholenath who she believes has carved out her life for her. And yes extremely beautiful.

What Paro is Not.

Does not have a formal education, mischievous, a Poojali, pizza-hogging smarty pants, crazy, hoity toity, sassy, selfish, indulges in self-pity, low self-esteem, cringe-worthy silly.

One more thing to change her characterization would be to change the characterization of Rudra. Because here there is no Battle of the Wits or ego clashes between the two. Nor is there a game of Who gets the Better of Who.

And ST did see HIS Paro in Sanaya the actor. Though she is way too different from Paro in real life. And to underplay for effect of a restrained character, yet emote correctly, modulate one's voice in no mean feat for someone like Sanz. The character itself is so subdued and restrained.

Secondly we as fans are not living Sanaya's life as an actor. But let me say this, when anyone seeks a job out there (that is what it is for her)...what do we look for? Good position (in the case of an actor a substantial role), pay and a great environment. A lead actor puts in 12 and beyond hours of work every day. What they would look for is an employer that takes care of its employees, is understanding, pay them on time and most of all have the right people working with and around you.

I was shocked to read an article about a heroine (with the most pivotal role of her lifetime) who has probably (since it's a media article) suffered sexual advances at the hands of her Director. Another actress from the same show did a quit few months ago for the same reason. 90 people walked out of the same show months ago of its launch. No doubt the show holds the number one spot on its channel.

Funny that this PH who depicts strong women in every show of hers, allows this to continue to happen on her sets in Reality. Hmmm.

Then we hear stories of another show where people smoke and don't care about their colleagues, Negative vibes between co-actors. Non-payment issues with another show and what not.

Would we want this for Sanaya? I would surely not. As an actor she and her co-actors need to be in a happy /content space to bring out their best on screen for us. And we can see that in the SBS segments.

Let me add this bit as well - I'll copy paste what I mentioned on Diya's last post.

"But I must say here Sanaya has lent to her character a never-seen before sensitivity, purity, gentleness and a child-like innocence. Plus Paro has an innate strength to bear her cross, is wise beyond her years, and who speaks her mind when required. Also I guess the first FL to openly declare her love for her man.

Every second post talks of wanting to see Paro's spunkiness, a smarty pants, a getting even kind of Paro that is seen in every other show these days. Just like the angry young men there is an overdose of such heroines now on TV! And I truly prefer Paro not turning into any one of them. Love Paro just the way she is. Yes the child-woman has to discover the woman in her. But I will leave it to ST for Paro is HIS CHILD...and he knows best when to let her SOAR"

Thanks & WISHING YOU A VERY HAPPY & BLESSED EASTER!

hugs

dd

P.S. what's not working at the TRPs...I just won't go into it...there are too many reasons...but characterization is definitely not the case.
