Not all films teach us something, but some of them have been especially created to send out a message. Here's a list of 10 best inspirational and motivational gems from Bollywood!

Mother India (1957)

Mehboob Khan's epic melodrama is a beautiful story of a struggling village woman, played by the versatile actress Nargis. Surrounded by a numbers of hardships, poverty being the major one, this woman raises her two sons single-handedly, as her husband has left the family. She works in the fields for a living and earns the status of an ideal lady in the village. She sets the best example of her high morals when she kills her misguided son towards the climax.

Anand (1970)

Hrishikesh Mukherjee's classic is about a happy-go-lucky man, called Anand (Rajesh Khanna). The fact that he is suffering from the terminal disease of cancer but still keeps smiling and believes in spreading happiness, is the ultimate message of the film, brilliantly delivered by the veteran actor.

English Vinglish (2012)

This critically acclaimed flick by Gauri Shinde sets a perfect example before thousands of housewives that it takes just a small step to win big! Housewives are strong individuals, unlike the general perception that they can only be vulnerable, and that they can be taken for granted. Given a chance, they too can turn into entrepreneurs - they just need to realise that they are not meant to be mocked by their families, and have their own identities.

Chak De! India (2007)

Chak De! India is not just a sports drama by Shimit Amin. It is a highly motivational film, which convincingly tells the story of a banned hockey player who, in a chase to redeem himself after seven years, becomes the coach for the Indian women's national hockey team. His goal is to help the women players win the World Cup, thus restoring his reputation. The film is super high on several thrilling moments.

Rang De Basanti (2006)

The National Award winner film depicts an inspirational transformation from careless attitude to passion-driven motive. A lively, happy-go-lucky group of four friends get the ultimate goal of their lives when they lose one of their friends in an air crash. Government corruption being the root cause of the accident, these friends set on a journey of good versus evil. The film has several spine-chilling sequences.

3 Idiots (2009)

How three engineering students finally realise their true passion, is the core idea of this super blockbuster by Rajkumar Hirani. The film deals with various problems today's youth come across while making their career choices, peer pressure being the foremost one. 3 Idiots beautifully convinces us that it is the most sensible decision to follow your dreams and realise them, rather than trying to please others by getting into wrong fields.

Black

Sanjay Leela Bhansali's film is inspired by a real life story. Rani Mukerji plays a deaf and dumb girl, whose world gets a meaning when a teacher (Amitabh Bachchan) enters her life. The film is about how this disabled girl faces all the hardships and succeeds in life. Truly motivational!

Dor (2006)

An epic tale, Nagesh Kukunoor's Dor is an outstanding film that focuses on a strange yet sweet camaraderie that is developed between two women from different walks of life. This friendship results in redemption for both, wonderfully played by Gul Panag and Ayesha Takia.

Lakshya (2004)

This Farhan Akhtar coming-of-age drama is a story of a lazy, aimless young man who, when hit by harsh realities, ultimately sets a goal for himself and successfully achieves it. The film is an inspirational example for many.

Iqbal (2005)

How a deaf and dumb boy, who is passionate about cricket, succeeds in making the sport his calling despite being physically and financially challenged, forms the story of Iqbal. Fighting all the odds - poverty, a strict father, and physical handicap - this boy shows that hard-work and determination can beat your shortcomings. You just need to believe in your abilities and the success will surely follow.

Most of these movies are heavily patriotic, so they don't inspire me coz I'm not Indian. Andar se feeling nahi aati hai, yno. 😆 English Vinglish and Dor have a great message for one and all, which I like.

IMO inspiring movies are those in which I can connect to the problems the main characters face i.e. issues the youth face. Like the struggles of Rocket Singh and Sid in Rocket Singh:Salesman of the year and Wake Up Sid. The struggle to figure out what you want to do in life and how to achieve it. They inspire me because they show that with time and patience, and if you actually want to solve your own problems, you can succeed in life.
