"Tu jahaan -jahaan chalegaa, mera saaya saath hoga."
Translation: Wherever you go. I will be with you like a shadow.
The above mentioned song from a beautiful love story called 'Mera Saaya ' ( Bollywood classic ) reflects the kind of love Paro feels for Rudra and how far she is willing to go for him. If you hear the song and understand its lyrics, it talks of a love that is selfless, unconditional, devotional and so intense that it promises to protect the lover even after the ladylove is gone. She assures her lover that she is forever bound to him and its immaterial whether he can see her or not. She wishes a fairytale to her lover - both in her presence and her absence.
THIS . This is the kind of love that Paro feels for Rudra. And it stands out like a passionate red against a dim background when she tells him that its okay if she is a rose petal and he is a thorn. Big deal. I fell in love with a thorn and if its my destiny , its cool. And why not look at the bright side? You are a thorn and you will still be around even after I am gone. She gives him a big beaming smile and goes to sleep on the floormat leaving Rudra feel like an emotional illiterate who reacts as though Paro has just explained him the theory of relativity and its flying over his auricles, ventricles and his neurons as well.
Paro is not too worried YET about the fate of her love for Rudra or if he will ever love her back with the same purity and devotion. She loves him, she is married to him, she is with him and for her this marriage is ' zindagi bhar ka waada' as Zoe of QH used to say in good old times. She is so busy in loving him in her own way that the emotional barter is not important to her yet. Her commitment only knows how to give and that is why she demands nothing from Rudra except his surname.
If Paro could, she would protect Rudra like a baby from the cruel and cold world. Since yesterday, we have seen her shield Rudra like a fortress - not because Rudra is weak , its because she knows that Rudra is unarmed as far as emotional intelligence is concerned and weaving of relationships is concerned. What lies can Rudra tell about love when he has never felt it for even for a millisecond consciously? ... No, He can't. That is why Paro steps in. To protect him the way he has always protected her.
So, Paro does not mind nipping the relationship questions in the bud by weaving Kucch Kucch Hotaa Hai tales. She takes a big risk of inviting Rudra's 'khoobsoorat aurat' wrath and ire by snuggling up to him in his sleep just so that no fingers are pointed at him. She is injured by his accusations but she does not create a scene. She is stunned by Rudra's SRK in the Alps act of tear wiping , romantic dialogues and side hugging but she plays along and doesn't tell him that she was swept away by that glimpse of a possible love.
Not just that, Paro has reached a comfort zone with Rudra where she can let go of caution once in a while and let the girl in her giggle at her husband's AMAZING singing skills. Its not until Rudra invades her personal space and goes inverted territorial that Paro realizes that she is still a trespasser on the other side of the fence.
Its like ...Paakar bhi teri aarzoo ho, shaayad yoon zindagi haseen hai ( maybe to have you and yet not have you and have the hopes of attaining you someday is what makes my life beautifully exciting ).
Oh, well. You are brave, dear Paro. Aisaa pyaar or rather aissi deewangi sabke bas ki baat nahiin hai.
Coming to Rudra...
Errrm, give that boy some breathing space, please.. All this is NEW AND ALIEN to him. A man who has not made a single emotional attachment after his pre-teens is suddenly married to a woman for whom he feels an amalgamation of emotions that could give Color Bar an inferiority complex. She drove him to a point ( created by him ) where he just had to marry her. She is his wife now - she lives in the same room as him, she is sharing his life with him, she is a part of him wherever he goes and in whatever he does. His gypsy soul has been tied to something that has roots. He is still SETTLING into the feeling. And being fatally attracted and attached to Paro does not help the matters. It COMPLICATES everything for him.
Rudra knows that Paro is talking of a surreal cosmic love when she calls herself a rose and him a thorn. He doesn't want to understand it. Rudra feels the pinch somewhere that did i really ruin her life? He doesn't want to face it , so he seeks an answer in Paro. Rudra can feel the power of Paro's feelings. He cannot handle it and prefers branding himself an emotional illiterate. Rudra's subconscious mind and his heart is in perfect rhythm with Paro. So, when she sleeps next to him, his territorial disposition and insecurity leaps to embrace her. But when he wakes up, he hides behind his 'khoobsoorat syndrome' accusations when even he knows that what he is accusing her of is something that he feels. When he sings that song so BEAUTIFULLY, and does that typical goodwaala pati act to pacify the ladies and take away Paro, there is pretense everywhere except in his eyes. Inside the room, when Paro bursts into laughter , rising out of the shock of her husband's India's Got Talent act , Rudra tells her to shut up because he needs no further adjectives to be added to her beauty. That is why he corners her , instead of howling at her. And sparks fly...
The problem is that Rudra first needs to PROCESS what he is feeling and unless he processes it , faces it , admits it, he will not understand the magic of his Paro, the magic that is happening inside him. More than that, he will not understand the depth of the rose and the thorn story.
Precap? I loved the way Paro was looking at Rudra. Almost as though she was looking at an orange candy in a candyshop - and being perfectly okay if she didn't have the money to buy it. She would try some other day. As of now, looking at it is magical enough. ...Seriously, sometimes loving is truly ENOUGH.
