I don't know if this has been posted or not, but I just found it and I think I've fallen more in love with her. I love how articulate she is along with being real and grounded. I guess a few BW actresses can learn how to express themselves without being catty or demeaning towards others. Like the way Kangana expresses how certain parts of the industry did want her to fail. She mentioned it, no names given, no grudges, laughs it off, and moves on with life. Class act moment.
But can we talk about how much she understands her characters and how much contribution she added to the film as a co-writer. Her changes in the voice-over about the family shows how much she understands the characters, but when she mentions "not to spoon-feed the audience", it gives me so much hope for her. She goes beyond her requirment as an actress and adds more depth to the story by these changes. I can totally see her being one fine, great director one day if she wants too. B/c her approach is that the audience doesn't need things dumbed-down for them, but if you let the character play out, the audience will understand and connect. This is exactly what Zoya Akhtar was talking about at a director's table interview with Masand last yar. And you can tell how much perspective she has about life when she discusses the kissing scene. Of course like all other things, why shouldn't Rani discover passion for the first time. Signs of a true actress when Kangana understands this and fights to have it included. Basically, I think she's such a great actress b/c she's so well-rounded and sees what life is outside of BW. Like going through the scenes "organically" and "allowing life to just happen there".
Granted Kangana has speech and dicton problems, but she understands herself and she is someone who travelled the world and made new discoveries. If you watch her older interviews, she talks about how she came into BW so young and had no idea what she was doing--so she gave herself a year and tried new things. And being able to develop a world view help her see, that life is more than just being an actress and vying for that one role. You can see how secure she is along with being a phenomenonly artiste. BW have not have a Meryl Streep yet but if Kangana keeps this school of thought going and continues transforming herself for roles and takes up risky roles like this one and Revolver Rani--then she's def gonna come damn close.
She needs to give more interviews b/c I love her discussions. If anyone hasn't seen her in Anupama Chopra, hope you guys certaintly do. She's so charming. And I for one thinks she's truly the new queen of BW and cinema in general. Thanks Kangana for being so humble, real, and charismatic. --Rants from a new fan. 😆
