AISH READYING FOR 'JHANSI KI RAANI'

No sooner Aish-Abhi honeymoon is over than Aish will get busy with her professional assignments, awaiting her comeback. This is a period filmy year for her. As soon as she completes shooting of Ashutosh Gowarikar's 'Akbar-Jodha' based on the Mughal emperor Akbar's period, she will be fully occupied in Ketan Mehta's big budget 'Jhansi Ki Raani'. The latter is again a period movie inasmuch as it is based on the First War of Independence of India started in 1857. Raani Luxmibai of Jhansi played a very important role in this struggle against the British rule.

Though Mehta had signed Aish a year ago yet he wants Aish to complete her earlier projects before undertaking 'Jhansi Ki Raani', presumably because he believes in full devotion to his coveted movie by the heroine. Aish has to complete Ram Gopal Varma's 'Sarkar 2' and a film with Karan Johar. Since this movie is going to be heavily action packed one, Mehta has already appraised Aish to take adequate training in horse riding and sword fighting, the two vital characteristics of the Raani Luxmibai, before commencing its shooting.

Besides Aish, Mehta is yet to finalize the rest of the star cast for his multi-starrer. However, there is a buzz in the industry that Abhishek Bachchan (now husband of Aish) will in all probability play the most significant role of Tatya Tope, the warrior accompanying Aish. Mehta doesn't confirm it though, and says that he has yet to take several vital decisions in regard to the movie. According to industry sources, he is on the lookout for four British actors to play opposite Aish in the movie. Apart from it, the search is on for British technicians and trainers for the action movie. He wants to train the cast so that they shoot action scenes very well.

Mehta wishes to shoot the period movie in the UK where he can easily involve Britishers. After all, the Raani fought the war against the Britishers who ruled India at that point of time. Mehta is otherwise confident that Aish will have no dates problem as she is very keen on doing this movie and will keep in view the availability of foreign participants for the shooting in the UK and India. Yes, ''Jhansi ki Raani' will be different from the earlier movie titled 'Mangal Pandey : The Rising' based again on the same period. Significantly, the movie is being made when the nation is organizing year-long celebrations during the 150th anniversary of 1857 War of Independence on May 10, 1857.

Aish's first ever Hollywood movie titled 'The Last Legion' costarring Sir Ben Kingsley and Colin Firth, is yet to release in India though it has been released in Russia and has reported good business. Its screening scheduled for April ( last month) was deferred due to her marriage with Abhishek Bachchan that month. According to industry sources, the movie is likely to hit Indian theaters in August this year. Yes, there is a reason to postpone its release in India. The movie has a lot of skin display ; even its promo depicts the former Miss World in a suggestive scene. And, India being a conservative country might not like the nation's high profile bahu to be seen this way. We may recall that a kissing scene picturized on Aish and Hrithik Roshan in a recently released Indian movie wasn't taken kindly by the Bachchan family. Anyway, this is again a sort of period movie in which Aish plays a warrior princess named Mira. Let's wait and watch for August when the movie hits Indian theaters .
