Many in this forum will know that the most famous Mughal Ramayana in existence today was commissioned by Akbar for his mother .

But did you know that according to the famous historian William Dalrymple, Hamida Banu Begum asked for her copy of the Ramayana to be brought to her on her deathbed.

In this serial Hamida Banu is shown as whishy washy and cold towards her son. The relationship between Akbar and Mom is strained.

One can only speculate on the relationship the real Akbar had with his mother in the early part of his life. But there is enough tantalizing evidence in Abhay's thread to suggest that even early on Akbar loved and respected his mother very much.

There are only 2 occasions in his life that Akbar had his head shorn, one was on the death of Maham Manga, the other when his mother Hamidu Banu died.

Akbar himself carried one side of the funeral palki.

Didn't know all these. I don't understand why they are portraying her as unlovely mother in the serial.

Thanks a lot for sharing such precise and neat information over mother-son duo relationship 😊😊 It's really touching "underline part" 😭😭 He didn't get much time to spend with his biological mummy during his living Being an emperor , he always had to shuffle into different tasks and matters !

Maham did bad things to him. There was also an assassination attempt on Akbar by a servant of Maham Anga. Akbar, however was very forgiving towards his relatives.

Maybe it was guilt because Akbar killed her son Adham Khan or maybe he really loved her despite all her faults, whatever the reason, her death was the only other occasion that Akbar had his head shaved.
