Last month I was working in the lab with my group and one girl in my group was talking and not doing any work. She was talking about how tall she is (6'2") then she said "I like to brag to people that I was 5'4" when I was 9 because some people still aren't that tall." Then she looked towards me and smirked. I am a 5'0" teenager. And I have absolutely no problem being "short".

So my question is, Is being "short" a bad thing? Why do people look down upon short people? Why do people consider being short a bad thing? Why do people think that they are superior to someone just because they are taller?

I'm looking forward to your views! Please maintain a healthy discussion!

My height is something that I can't control. It's determined by my genes and I can only grow till my epiphyseleal plate doesn't turn into a line. For an Indian teenager I am at an average height. And that girl being an American teenager is taller because the average American height is taller too.

Now why she or other think they are better than someone who is short stays a mystery to me. I think society has promoted that thinking.

When I was in elementary school, I used to get upset that I wasn't as tall as the other kids. But now as a teenager I have accepted the fact I can't grow anymore and that its okay to be short. I am happy with who I am and some rude remark can't change that.

Is being black bad? It is one of those questions.

If one is going to be politically correct then we can so no it is not bad. However if you speak from experience then being taller is consider better or more appealing.

Note that in the end we are ourselves to be blames. There are enough people out there who like fair, tall and handsome. So this is not coming from any book, guideline or manual. It is coming from us and people around us.

There are good examples. Most of the bollywood heros are short in stature. I mean aamir, shahruk and salman would be around 5.2 - 5.3 and yet they are king of bollywood. On the other hand tall like abhiskeh bachan is a big flop. Deepika is very tall and does not have good looks of other actresses however she is a superstar.

This shows that there are more to a person than just height or looks. Therefore this should not be taken too seriously. One should be happy in what they are.

Bravo, Shweta! Being short is not at all bad thing. You ask, ''Why do people look down upon short people? Why do people consider being short a bad thing? Why do people think that they are superior to someone just because they are taller?'
Here this is the way of the World. Most of the people, in one way or the other like to put down others. They will tell others, 'You are short, You are fat, you are black, you are poor' etc. This is all because they have their own inferiority complex and they have their own low self-esteem which they hide behind this type of mask they have made. This is the way of the society and this is no mystery.

I have one question, 'Who are people to determine whether myself or yourself is good or bad?' All of us have the same God given capabilities which each of us have free choice to develop. The care, compassion, gentleness, tenderness, understanding and love which I develop is what for me matters. For the record, people in India had also made derogatory remarks on me telling, me that I am a black person and so i am inferior. When I was younger, I used to feel pained. Now I know there is nothing wrong with me and I pay no attention to whatever opinion anyone has about me because the person who makes opinion on me does that because of his inferiority complex.. I was criticized also because I am an introvert. But now I am happy that way also.

My deceased wife was 4ft 9 inch in height. But she achieved a lot in life. Tendulkar, Sehwag, Gavaskar, Bradman and Marshall were all short. They are known by what they did and not their height. Nice to know you are happy with who you are and a rude rremark can't change that.

Tip of the Day: Be nice to midgets. They have short tempers..
Apparently I offended a midget with one of my jokes. I told him to grow up...😕
