Hello all... had no internet yesterday & came to IF only today ...went through a few posts...as usual, saw the extremes of the 2 viewpoints...almost felt the need to shield myself from the daggers flying around in the forum 😆...
On a more serious note, my pov (for all that it matters):😊
1) Jalal was given ample reason to NOT trust Jo by Jo herself with her lies & her silence about her meets with Sujamal(who in turn had noble intentions, but who, unknowingly, almost blew apart his sister's marriage)...Protecting her bro was not wrong by ANY means, but Jo not being able to empathise with her husband's state of mind, is a wife's failure somewhere. All through this track(till the epic showdown), she never made a single attempt to pacify her husband, if only to calm his mindset, despite knowing that he was drastically upset with her.
2)Jalal made every effort to believe her. Despite seeing her with a stranger in the middle of the night, entering a secluded hut with him, he believed in her, only feeling let down by her lack of trust in him. We should remember that kings in that era were under threat even from their own kin, including brothers, sisters, children. Jalal had been let down by his own sister BB in the fake pregnancy track. Hence an emperor CANNOT be expected to take calls ONLY using his heart ...it is his DUTY to use his head...here, he was madly in love with a woman who
a) had herself claimed her 'ghrina' for him initially
b)only proclaimed 'kartavya' for him even after consuming poison for him, despite him asking her repeatedly...
c)so far, did not allow him to as much as hold her hand in a romantic way
3)In Jodha's favour, she had been let down first by her father(for marrying him to Jalal), then her mother(who left no other option for her but suicide by disallowing her entry into Amer)...n now, her husband who accuses her of adultery-a crime which from Jodha's pov, is unthinkable...again, she as always has noble intentions, but this time her execution was wrong. There was NO way she & her bro could have caught the culprit in the palace on their own without the emperor's help. She repeatedly met her bro, she could have convinced her bro of the necessity to inform Jalal, for both, safe guarding his life, & calming down an angry husband. Jo NEVER made any attempt to nail the culprit after giving up the Harem responsibilities, & it was OBVIOUS, that Suj, as a KS would not succeed either.
So, in Jalal's favour, to doubt a wife, who is the enemy's daughter, whom he loves but who has hitherto NOT reciprocated his love(to his knowledge), & who has no answers to his questions about her secret meetings with a stranger in the middle of the night repeatedly, is justified.
4)Jo's conscience was only worried about Jo's ego being hurt, & Jalal's bleeding hand. This is a big time failure for a wife who could not see her husband's bleeding heart.
4) Jo leaving is justified according to me, but ONLY for the right reasons...the reasons quoted by her in her letter were not right...I hated Jalal's physical abuse of her during his showdown (despite understanding that this was common in the 16th century)...the letter could have been about how Jo was wrong in the beginning, then somewhere along the way, the situation got out of hand, & finally, how no self respecting woman could accept an accusation of adultery, (which for a pati vrata nari of those days was a fate worse than death)...the cvs messed up big time by making Jalal question her drinking Ben's poison, because, after all, what more can a person do to prove one's loyalty than risking their life??
It should have been a combination of an apology, & of course, hurt (for her husband not having understood her at all)...NOT a guilt trap for Jalal...there was no mention again of all the agony that HE has gone through...for, how could she have known that Jalal would have found out the truth WHEN he received this letter?!? She should have warned him of the attacker in the letter.
5)The very reason that this whole fiasco happened, was to protect the emperor from an attacker inside the palace...the protectors were Jo & Sujamal...n now both have abandoned him?...Suj with a promise to finish him off in the battlefield, & Jo, with a promise to crush him under his guilt trap...but only, & only if, the attacker does not finish him off first 😕 . Jo stood by Jalal during Ben track, when there was no fault of hers. Here, she began the MU.
In short, Jalalluddin Mohammad Akbar, it's high time you start "cleaning up" your Agra palace (removing people like Maham, Adham, Shareefuddin ) & making room for normal, civilised people.
PS: EK, it's high time you also start cleaning up your PH (begin with firing your JA creatives) 😆😉...this track was one big fiasco 😃
