What I've observed is.. bigger brands don't replace one star with other. When they sign a new one, they don't end the contract with the current one. They test if the new one can create buzz then they end or renew it with the former or latter.

Lays has signed Ranbir, but they didn't end their contract with Saif & Dhoni yet. If they find that Ranbir alone can hold it on his shoulder, they'd probably end their contract with Saif/Dhoni.
