Chapter ten

Dishari was returning home. Her day was tiring. She was enjoying her journey. It was long time she enjoyed such carefree ride to home. She saw traffic ahead so she took a side road.

Suddenly a black SUV passed her at a speed of above 80kmh, like a storm wind. It went away almost touching her, that made her off-balance and she fell down with her bike. A harsh fall...made some bad bruises on her right side. She looked at the SUV with murderous eyes.

The driver was a boy in mid 20s. He extended his neck from his side to see her. He offered her a crooked smile and drove off.

"You Ba**born bus**rd!!" She cursed aloud. And another biker stopped for her help, she got up with great effots. Her entire right side was paining. She checked her hand and feet, her right elbow and knee was badly bruised, and her knee had a deep cut also. She sighed.. "thank god!! My bones are all right!!" Hr sleeve and trouser was also torn. She removed her helmet and looked at the rear view mirror...her face was ok.

The man helped her to pull her bike up. He enquired how the accident happened.

Di : (in a heated tone) Don't ask!! Those reckless drivers!!pata nahi dekh ke chalane main aur horn bazane main kya problem hain inki...jahan forbidden hain wahan toh jo jor se bazate hain..

Man : Haan...he was checking her bike...it's ok bahenjee...lekin kya aap chala paayenge...(he was checking her out)

Di : Haan bhaiya..thanks.

Man : My pleasure...but I would like to accompany you to hospital...you're injured (pointing to her bleeding knee)...I think you should call someone there to take you home.

Di : (smiled) Thanks...um...

Man : Ronny.

Di : Haan..Ronny. but this not that serious..I can manage.

She smiled at him. They started their own vehicles...but when they reached at the head of the turn, they heard a screeching sound of car as if someone pushed it's break hard. It rang a bell inside her head and she speeded up. The second bike also followed her.

They reached at the second turn and the scene shocked them.

The car was slipping down from the cliff edge...breaking the railings. Di was looking at the number plate. it's the same SUV hit her minutes ago!!

The slope was not that deep...it ends after few meters. The SUV slid to the end and then toppled down...a terrible noise of metal shredding and tearing reached their ear. after a few somersaults, it settled in the bushy land down there.

She breaked there and hopped down. That boy must be inside. He needed help. She started climbing down as quickly she could. She didn't even cared for her safety. Ronny followed her. He was thinking the girl was crazy. She was badly injured and now was going to help someone else.

She reached near the toppled SUV. The wheels were still spinning. Ronny tugged her hand.

Ronny : Hey what are you doing...you'll die!!

Di : The driver, he needs help...we better hurry.

Both were looking at the SUV...its tinted glass windows were closed. The engine was still on.. the wheels were still spinning. The engine was so powerful that didn't stop after falling from that high.

Di : Come, let's bring him out.

Ronny : Careful...the engine is still on..& hot...may catch fire anytime...& explode like a bomb.

Di : Then we don't have much time...we have to bring him out before he gets baked.

They stood aside the car. The SUV was distorted. They both tried to open the doors but all were jammed. They were getting worried about the person inside...they had nothing to do if he died..but if he was alive then they should help him.

Ronny gave up after trying several times.

Ronny : I better call the police..they can bring help..

Di nodded. He moved aside to call the police. She peeped through the glass, It was scattered into pieces, looking like a spider wave that made it too opaque. She smelt the smell of rubber and petrol. Petrol!! So it's pouring out from the tank and if... no!! She tried to open the door to driving seat but it was jammed. She picked up a stone, broke the window of driver's side, and peeped in.

It was dark inside. That smell of petrol made her sick, she felt her head was spinning. Nobody could survive in this condition. But she didn't gave up. She was searching for the body.

But she couldn't figure out anything. No movements inside that car, no torso was lying in the driving seat, or floor or backseat. The car was empty!!

She remembered she saw the boy peeping out of this window. But he's not here! Where was he?? She brought her head out of the car, smelt some fresh air and again peeped in. She could clearly remember that boys face, smiling at her. If he was not inside the SUV, he must be jerked out, lying dead or injured somewhere. She was thinking what was happened with that boy, when Ronny tugged her to a safe distance from the car.

Ronny : It's not safe here...this thing can explode anytime...

Di nodded to him absent minded. They just reached to their assumed distance when that car exploded. That whole thing sat on fire within seconds.

The shockwave made them fall on the ground. And the big explosion may attract some passer by's attention. They heard some peoples scram and some hand helping them to straighten up. Di turned her head to that SUV. It was still burning.

After a while, police and fire service were arrived. Fire fighters gathered on the slope and started their work. Di saw their big extinguisher pipes moving like big orange snakes, they started cooling down the car while police was canvassing the area. She saw they were yellow taping the whole area.

An officer came to her and Ronny for their statement. He enquired about Di's wounds.

Officer : Mam, you OK? You are injured...you go with our medics..they provide you first aid then we'll record your statement. Meanwhile, (to Ronny) let's talk.

Di : I'm fine officer...That car...nobody was inside...I saw...

The officer stared at her, surprised.

Di : I broke the window to help the driver..but he was not inside...maybe he was out when the car was...

That officer's surprise replaced with pensiveness. He was presuming that this lady was going through a mental trauma after being injured and seeing someone dying in front of her yes. He gestured the medic to attend her and took Ronny with him to record his statement.

Di noticed that pitiful look of officer and she protested.

Di : I'm fine!! Mujhe kuch nahi hua...( But the Medic pulled her away).

Medic : You need first aid, come..

The medic gave Di some first aid and sent her to hospital for treatment. Her cut on the right knee needed stitches. She called Karan to pick her up from the hospital.

Karan was preparing for his evening outing with his new girlfriend, when Di called him.

Karan : Di! Kyun meri date ki watt laga rahi hain?

Di : Karan...I met an accident.

Karan : What? How? When? Where?

Di : I'll tell you later. Can you pick me up from hospital? I left my bike at the spot.

Karan : Ok...you stay there. I'll coming.

He rushed to the jeep. Arjun noticed it.

Arjun : What happened ? Karan?

Karan : Di met an accident..I'm going to pick her up...

Arjun took the passenger sat.

Arjun : Let's go.

They brought Di home. Simi helped her to settle in her living room. Arjun was looking around the living room, he came inside this house for the first time since he came here.

It's a big room, well arranged with minimum furniture. Two couches in the center, a tea table between them. A wall full of pictures of Di and her family, a small wall cabinet also placed there. Some trophies, medals and two swords of honor were placed on it. An wooden staircase at a corner leading to upper floor and the dining area was visible at the other end of the room. He moved to the cabinet to see the swords and Karan settled in opposite couch, facing her.

Karan : Yeh pakar teri bag...aur haan, jab tak thik nahi ho jaati, teri bike chalana bandh. Kahin jaana ho toh mujhe bata dena, I'll take you there.

Di : ok, Chaufer Karan!!

Karan : Oye!! Main aur teri chaufer!! No way...main to bas...

Arjun : (absent minded) How did this happen?

Di : What? Accident?

Her question bring him back.

Arjun : Umm...haan.

Di : that SUV passed me with a high speed, it almost touched me. I tried to escape the collision and lost balance...

Karan : Oh! toh tu khud hi gir gayee!!

Di : haan.

Arjun : But when we were returning with your bike, we saw a SUV was burnt? How did it happen?

Di : It was the same SUV that made me fall...

Karan : OH...then it lost its own balance and topple down from the edge...

Di : May be...It was running on its top speed.

Their conversation interrupted by the police. They came to record Di's statement.

Officer 1 : How are you feeling now Ms. Tandon?

Di : Good.

Officer 2 : Can you give us statement?

Di : They stitched my knee officer, not my lips.

Hearing this, a sheepish smile crept on both the officers' lips. They started questioning her about the accident, the car and it's driver. The SUV was a Pajero X and the driver was a boy of about 22, wearing a white shirt.

Officr 1 : Hmm...the body burnt in such a way...no remaining left. (to his partner) call the experts, may be they can find something...anyways, thanks for the reg no. Ms., now we can find out the owner. Exactly what happened?

Di : He was driving too fast...

Officer 2 : Haan, it's quite natural na? If a boy of that age get a chance to drive a car like that, hell drive like this...but how the car fell down?

Di narrated the incident.

Officer 2 : Oh!! So you just see that car falling down... but it's ok.

Officer 1: That was amazing madam, you climbed down through that slide in this injured state... Agar koi aur hota toh chup chap side main hi khara rehta...anyways,Thanks for your help madam. Take care.

They straighten up to depart. When Di spoke up.

Di : I saw inside the car after it toppled down...it was empty.

Officer 2 : (shrugging) you don't have to think about that, we'll check all possibilities. You better take proper rest.

After police left, Arjun and Karan started discussing about the accident with Di. Simran warned them not to disturb Di much and Di sent her to make coffee for everyone.

Karan : Baat kya hain, Di...kahin teri sarr pe zyada chot toh nahi laagi? Phirse hallucination ho hara hain..

Arjun : Hallucination matlab?

Karan : arr wahi...sarr pe chot laagne se dimag ki wirings wagera damage hota hain kavi kavi...tab audio video malfunction..

Di : Bakwaas band karr...

Arjun : Disha...thik se bolo, actually hua kya tha...

Di : First, when the car passed me...I saw that boy sitting in the driving seat.. But after the car toppled down and I reached there to help the boy, nobody was there... I mean just vanished!!

Karan : Vanished!! No way...maybe car se bahar gir gaya...(he took his coffee mug from Simi)

Di : ( taking her mug) Kaise? All door & and windows were locked. I broke the window glass and searched inside for the victim. But there was nobody...kahan gaya?? I can clearly remember he even looked at me and smiled while he made me fall, that means SUV windows were open. But after the accident, all windows were closed...

Simi : That means magic...or ghosts??

Karan : Chup chup...police toh Di ko already indirectly pagal bolke gaye...tujhe directly bolega...

Arjun : Let's check that place tomorrow..maybe we can find something...

Karan : Kuch nahi milga yaara...abi tak police sab kuch uthake lab leke gaya hoga...

Arjun : Phir vi...kuch toh kaam hoga...khali baithne se toh accha hain...Disha, you take rest. We should leave now.

Di also straightened up to go upstairs, and hissed in pain.

Karan & Arjun : Careful!!

Di smiled at that. Simi came forward to help her. Both men exhaled sharply in relief. Although the listened each other's sigh, they didn't dare to look at each other's face.

nice update may be that suv wala boy deliberatlyalmost hit di so that she would become witness of his death but he did not knew that di will clime down and try to rescue him 🤔
