Many star kids have been successful and many have failed just like many outsiders have been successful and many have failed.

Regarding defining starkids... If Shahid is not considered a starkid, then how are HR, Kareena, Karisma considered star kids. Rakesh, Babita, Randhir... were not superstars nor were they as popular or as well known as AB Sr, Hema, Dharam, Anil etc.

The word star kids is loosely defined in Bollywood... and the Industry kids too end up being referred as star kids...

The word starkid, is used in Bollywood to state that this person belongs to a popular or super star parent or family. The Kapoor's are an exception, because they are the first film family, so even though Kareena-Karishma's parents weren't "huge stars" they still belong to a legendary family. Yeah Rakesh Roshan wasn't a superstar, but he was still an actor and relatively popular and well-known. He also belongs to the group of directors that the public recognizes.

Most of the general public don't know (or care) about screen writers, directors and what not. I know lots of people who don't even know who Javed Akhtar is.

I just find it ridiculous to put people like Shahid, Farhan in the same category as Abhishek or Ranbir. There is a clearly a difference in their parents/families stardom.
