Geet was about to put the last set of her clothes into the suitcase when she spotted him standing in front of her looking at her expectantly. He had been restless all morning all the while he packed his stuff and looked extremely tired and disturbed.

Geet, I need to ask you something. Maan said quietly. His calmness did surprise her, even though he woke up before her he hadn't asked her anything about the previous night. Somehow she knew what he was about to ask but she wasn't ready to answer him worried about his reactions. Being close to her was bothering him and she could figure it by now. If he knew about last night and how he slept holding her, it might just make things worse. He was looking at her intently, waiting for her to pay attention to him. Geet nodded asking him to go ahead.

What happened last night.? Why were you on the bed with me.? He asked her bluntly. His words were clear enough but the tone in which he asked her was much more hurtful than she expected. He didn't sound angry, he sounded regretting. Although she expected this, but much to her surprise, it angered her more than it hurt her. She looked up to find him waiting for her answer.

You don't need to worry, nothing happened last night. As for why I slept with you, I am sorry for sleeping on the bed with you Maan but you know what, I didn't have it me to push you away when you were holding me and sleeping. I couldn't push you away after you apologized to me with an unknown pain in your eyes. I couldn't push you away even after knowing how drunk you were and also knowing that it was because of me that you were in pain. I cannot be as cold as you can be so I just let you be peaceful for a while because that's what I saw on your face while sleeping. If what I did was wrong according to you, then I am sorry again. Geet snapped angrily. This was the first time she had ever felt so angry on him and she couldn't stop herself from answering him back. As her own words rang in her ears, tears clouded her eyes. Why did his words always hurt her.? Dropping the clothes in her hands, Geet darted to the washroom but his words stopped her in her tracks.

Geet, I wasn't in pain because of you neither was I drunk because of you. It's just that I was upset with myself and I had to get it out somewhere, it happened to be the drinks. Maan said earnestly trying to ease her pain. Her outburst did take him by surprise, but he knew deep down he deserved every bit of it. He could never forgive himself for breaking his own rules and lashing out on her. She found him cold and she wasn't the first person who told him that but somehow coming from her it sounded even harsher.

Maan, please.! You don't need to do this for me. I know it was because of me you were angry. May be I should have pushed you away yesterday morning itself instead of trying to stop you, may be you would never have left in anger or got drunk and would never have slept with me. At least you could have saved yourself all this regret of coming close to me. Geet said and walked into the washroom, shutting the door. Maan stared at the closed door in shock. She had read the regret in his eyes, it was something that touched him deep in his heart. How had she looked into him, could she read all the emotions in his eyes.? The thought bothered him, if she ever knew of his past, she would hate him. It was due to his mistake they came that close yet he lashed out on her unable to believe his emotions crushing all his resolutions. If she ever reads the pain in his eyes, she wouldn't be able to bear it; it was difficult for him to bear it. It would be impossible for her to bear it. Was it good that she knew of him not wanting to come close to her.? May be it was for good, he couldn't bear to see the same tears in her eyes again which he saw today. Moreover, he didn't want to be the reason for those tears. If his coldness and distance kept her away from pain, he would do so. What he was unaware of was how his coldness bothered Geet.

Geet, how was your trip bete.? Dadimaa asked holding her close and examining her closely. Geet smiled at Dadimaa's concern and hugged her tightly. Geet spotted Maan looking in their direction admiringly. He had a smile on his lips, it was such a beautiful one. How much she wished she could make him smile like that.

It was beautiful Dadimaa. We really enjoyed. She lied effortlessly. Dadimaa raised an eyebrow at her quick answer. Geet saw Maan looking away, maybe he knew he would never be able to hide the truth behind her lie. Dadimaa kissed her forehead lovingly. Just as they were about to sit, Rohan came running into the hall screaming for Dadimaa. His scream stopped as soon as he spotted Maan staring at him in confusion. Before he could face Maan's wrath, Rohan grabbed him in a tight hug trying to make up for his idiotic behavior. Geet and Dadimaa stifled a giggle at the sight. As Rohan came to greet her, his expressions made her laugh and he winked at her in relief. Geet looked away embarrassed , trying to hide her laughter. Was there anyone who Maan didn't control or scare with his anger.? As she looked back, she found him eyeing her suspiciously.

Dadimaa, please help me with that cake.! It's worth the garbage now, totally burnt to death. I told you to not let me near it alone, just as I thought, I ruined it. Rohan cribbed like a baby. Dadimaa held her head with her hands and laughed seeing him.

Rohan, I know you wanted to do something for Maan and Geet to welcome them home, but it's okay. I am sure they won't mind. It's okay, leave that one. I will help you with another one. Dadimaa tried to pacify him. He sighed and nodded. Out of the blue, the hall echoed with Maan's laugh. All three heads turned in his direction to find him laughing whole heartedly. Geet looked at him in shock, what could possibly be that funny to him.? Maan got up from the sofa and patted Rohan on his back, mockingly. Rohan glared at him and threw a punch in his direction which Maan dodged and dashed towards the stairs.

You are so going to pay for this Khurana. Rohan grumbled and faced Dadimaa. She laughed watching both of them bickering like school boys. Geet for once found Maan genuinely smiling. It was a treat to watch him smile that effortlessly.

Dadimaa, you go and take rest. I can help Rohan bake the cake. Geet said meekly. Dadimaa smiled at her concern and left the hall. Rohan looked at Geet excitedly and extended his hand which she shook with a smile.

Geet, I hope you are not too much into Khurana. I finally have someone I can crib to about Khurana. He is such a nightmare sometimes, god I don't know how you manage him the whole day. Rohan ranted all the time they baked the cake. All she could do was laugh at his cribbing about Maan, he being Maan's best friend was the sole witness to all this tantrums. Rohan loved Maan more than anything and it was evident from his talks. This was the only thing she had come to know of about Maan and it touched her heart. One thing she gathered all the time she spent with Rohan was, no one knew Maan better than Rohan. Although Maan never showed affection for anyone around him, Rohan's words made it clear that even though Maan never showed it, but he cares about all the people around him more than himself. As they finished baking the cake, Geet couldn't help but ask him the one question that was bothering her.

Rohan, what is bothering Maan.? Why is he never ready to share his pain.? Geet asked looking at him expectantly. Rohan's face hardened and he looked away trying to avoid her gaze. Geet immediately knew, he was trying to hide something.

He was always like this Geet. That's why he is Maan Singh Khurana. He is a child at heart if you come to know him, it's difficult to know him but once you do, there is no looking back. I am sure you will come around one day. Thanks for helping me with the cake, I am really grateful. Its Maan's favorite. I have to go see him, haven't been able to catch up with him properly since I got here. Good Night Geet, see you later. Rohan spoke hastily looking away from her and left the kitchen leaving Geet wondering. She immediately knew, Rohan knew everything but would never reveal it without Maan wanting him to. He would never betray Maan. Several questions clouded her mind, what could be bothering Maan so much.? She quietly left the kitchen towards the room and spotted Maan and Rohan in Maan's study. She wanted to know more about Maan, but she wanted him to be the one to tell her. The only thing she wasn't sure of was, if that day would ever come.? Would he ever trust her enough to open up his heart to her.? Time was her only hope.
