Geet was pacing worriedly along the room continuously remembering all that took place. His contrasting behavior was taking a toll on her, one minute he would be normal and the next minute he would be unpredictably angry, what was wrong with him.? She wanted to understand him but he never would give her the opportunity. She had witnessed both sides of him that lived within him, the only thing she wasn't able to place was, which side of him was the real one.? His rejection was ringing clearly in her that too at the expense of no fault of hers. She looked at the wall clock which showed 7.30 of the evening, he had been out of the room for almost the entire day yet he wasn't back. She was angry but she couldn't stop worrying either. Just as she was about to go ask about him, the doorbell rang. She ran to the door expecting it to be him, but what awaited her was a painful and revolting sight. A person from the staff stood at the door, supporting Maan who looked completely sloshed and was hardly able to stand.
Good Evening Madame, sorry to be disturbing you at this hour but sir had been in the bar almost all day and looked quite ill, so we brought him back. He apologized looking at Geet's ashen and disgusted face in his french accent. Recovering quickly from her thoughts, she nodded and lifted his arm, tucking herself under the heavy weight of his shoulders. The waiter somehow was unsure she would be able to carry him all the way inside, given his heavy structure but left the place quietly receiving Geet's acknowledging nod. Her heart clenched in various emotions but she somehow managed to shut the door and carry him to the bed with great difficulty. He was staggering at every step and was stinking with the revolting stench of the alcohol and it repulsed her every step she too along with him. Why was he doing all this.? She wanted her answers but his miserable condition was breaking her, was it all because of her.? Reaching the bed, she lowered him on the bed, took off his shoes and covered him with the quilt. Just as she was about to move away from him, he caught her wrist and yanked her down making her land on his chest. Her face was inches away from his and his hand came up to tuck the strands of hair away from her face. She struggled to get up before he would lose it again, but this time he held her back by her wrist. She wanted to plead him but wasn't even sure if he would respond.
Geet... He hummed non-coherently and at that moment, she couldn't stop herself from running away from him..It was the smell of the alcohol and his anger that tore her away from him. Dashing to the washroom, she banged the door shut and the tears escaped her eyes. Had she done this to him.? What was her fault at all.? He hadn't even given her a chance to say anything in the morning and had downright rejected her. Why was he holding her now.? Geet splashed water on her face, calming herself down and came out of the washroom to find Maan kneeling in front of the door blocking her way. She was stunned to see him on his knees, it was so not him and somehow the sight bothered her very much. She was disturbed but she wouldn't want to see him like this ever.
Maan, what are you doing.? Please get up. She said holding him by his arms and tried lifting him up but she could be yanking on a rock, he was that hard to move.
Geet, are you angry with me.? He asked innocently looking into her eyes. She was speechless, how could she even deal with him changing every minute. He was questioning her if she was angry, was he really clueless about what happened in the morning. Ignoring his questions, she still tried to pull him off the ground. Watching her struggle to get him up, Maan held her tightly and stood up, staggering. Geet supported him and walked towards the bed and was just about to lower him when he stopped her and scooped her up in his arms. Geet screamed in shock at the sudden loss of ground and being whipped into the air. His arms held her tightly, but he himself wasn't steady enough.
Maan, what are you doing.? Please let me down, we both will fall. Stop it. She struggled as she felt him loose his balance. Who knows he might as well shout at her for lifting her up, but she was more concerned about both of them getting hurt.
Shh.! He shushed her and gently placed on the mattress, before he completely lost his balance and fell taking her along. Placing her on the bed, he looked at her for a moment as she watched him worriedly. Geet could see him trying to balance himself but he was unsure of himself. What was he trying to do.? He certainly wouldn't like it to find her on his bed once he came back to his senses. Just as she was about to step down the bed, a hand stopped her and looked at her sternly. He shook his head in a no asking her stay just the way she was. His finger silenced her when she opened her mouth to protest. His hand pushed her back until she was lying on the bed with her feet dangling off the edge, but soon his hands gently placed them on the bed. Her heartbeat quickened as his actions looked out of place, after all that happened in the morning, what was all this.? After making her lie down on the bed, she watched him stumble to the other end of the bed. Her eyes widened in horror as her thoughts rushed in, what was Maan doing.? Before she could say anything, his hand wound around the back of her waist, while the other wound around the front of her waist and his head came resting on her tummy with him facing her. She could see the torment on his face change to peace.
I'm sorry.! He mumbled slowly and his eyes closed instantly as the alcohol effect kicked in; he was out within seconds. She was stunned at whatever was happening but she could also read the peacefulness on his face. Her hands ached to caress his face, which was so close to her but she held herself back. What could be bothering him so much.? She was scared what this might result in but she didn't have it in herself to push him away when he clung to her like this. No matter how much she wanted to comfort him, she held herself back. She wouldn't do it unless he wanted her to, she wasn't strong enough for another rejection from him. With a heavy heart, she closed her eyes and tried to steer her thoughts away from his face until sleep took over her after the exhaustive day.
Her eyes opened to the bright rays of the sun shimmering into the room from the open balcony. Geet sat up hastily to find herself alone on the bed with only his shoes around the bed, just where she removed them last night. The bed was empty, which meant he was already up. A shiver ran down her spine trying to thinking about how he might react. She was about to run to the washroom when she saw him coming out of the washroom with a towel around his neck and water dripping from his hair.. Her eyes looked at his reasonably calm face, but his eyes were deep red from the alcohol and he looked weak. She wanted to ask him if he was okay, but would she get back a normal answer.? Looking away, she got up from the bed when she heard his voice.
Geet, we have to leave today. Please pack your stuff, we will leave once you are done and ready. He spoke rather calmly, approaching his half packed suitcase. She looked at him in confusion. When she expected him to be angry yet again, he was cool enough to surprise her. Even though he woke up early, he didn't care about the events of the previous night. Geet felt relieved seeing him not storming around the room in anger, but it somehow wasn't him.
Maan, are you...are...are you okay.? She asked meekly mostly mumbling it to herself, too scared to talk to him now that he was back to his senses. He looked at her in confusion but as he understood her question, he simply nodded and got back to packing his stuff. That was her cue, she quietly left the room without another word.
