It's 'no acting, only singing' for Karunya

To anchor a music show on a Telugu television channel soon

# New series for children in the age group of six to 13 years
# Confidence essential for any performer

VIJAYAWADA : Playback singer N.C. Karunya, who captivated the entire nation with his stellar performance in the popular reality show 'Indian Idol II', has a clear roadmap for improving his fledging career.

"No acting, only playback singing and stage shows," was his crisp answer to posers on the speculation about his entry into the tinsel world.

The up and coming playback singer will soon be anchoring a music show for the first time. The 'Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Little Champs' show for children will be aired by Zee Telugu Channel, which is already telecasting the same show for adults.

Karunya said at a press conference organised by the television channel here on Monday that he did get offers to act in movies but decided not to complicate his singing career. "I'm not cut out for acting, though many think otherwise. Right now, I'm balancing my playback singing and shows," he clarified.

Platform for talent

Following the stupendous success of the present 'Sa Re Ga Ma Pa' programme, Zee Telugu is coming up with a platform for young singers in the age group of six to 13 years to prove their mettle. "'Little Champs' is a new series that will identity the young singing sensations from across the State and bring the brightest of them into the limelight," said channel's business head Rasool Ali.

Selection of children for the show will be held in the city on Tuesday at Hotel Ilapuram from 8 a.m. "The response has been overwhelming in places like Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam and Rajahmundry. After covering Vijayawada, we will move to different places before having the finals in Hyderabad on March 3 or final selections," said Kalyani Chiluvuri, manager of channel promotions.

An excited Karnuya said he was looking forward to interacting with children, as he always felt that he could not only fine-tune their crooning abilities but learn from them too. "The greatest quality among children is that they are fearless. They sing with loads of confidence. That's essential for any performer," he pointed out.
