16th Century
Jodha was very happy. It was Holi the next day. She really wanted to celebrate it with her daasis and Moti to the fullest. However, she remembered the Holi of last year, her first Holi in Agra. The memory of that Holi caused much guilt and sadness to her. She remembered that how Shahenshah had granted her wish and allowed her to play Holi on the condition that she would not put colour on anyone other than her daasis and Moti. However, while trying to apply colour to one of her daasis, she accidently threw colour on Maham Anga, who happened to be passing by at that time. Shahenshah had been very angry with her then and had come to her room and thrown all the colours everywhere.
But then, things were different between them. They both hated and despised each other. Now, they understood each other very well and had formed a special bond with each other. She enjoyed his company and he enjoyed hers. He had also taken her side when she was wronged by others and she had saved his life from Benazir. They both respected each other a lot. Inspite of the drastic change in their relationship, she could not bring herself to ask him permission to play Holi. So, she decided to not celebrate it this year.
On the other hand, Ammijaan knew that it was Holi the next day. She wanted to make Jodha happy. She went to Jalal's hojra and the soldier announced her arrival. Both of them greeted each other.
Jalal - Kahiye Ammijaan, Kaise aana hua?
Ammijaan - Jalal beta, kal Holi ka tyohar hai. Isliye hum chahte hain ki tum Jodha ko ek nazrana pesh karo
Jalal - Ha Ammijaan, aap kya chahti hain ke hum Jodha Begum ko dein?
Aur who bahut dukh ki baat thi.
Jalal - Theek hai, Ammijaan hum samajh gaye. Hum unhe abhi jaakar unse guftagu karte hain iss bare mein.
Ammijaan - Haa ek aur baat Jalal. Iss baar tyohar ke saare intezaamaat tum unke liye karoge
Jalal - Par Ammijaan, hume Holi kaise manai jaati hain, iske baare mein kuch bhi nahi pata. To phir hum yeh kaise karenge?
Ammijaan - Toh jaao, Jodha se jaakar pucho
Jalal hurriedly left his hojra and Ammijaan kept smiling. Jalal reached Jodha's room and a soldier announced his arrival. Jodha was doing Kanha's pooja. She got up and faced him.
Jodha - Pranaam, Shahenshah
Jalal - Aadaab, Jodha Begum
Jodha - Kahiye, kaise aana hua?
Jalal - Jodha Begum, hum jaante hain ki kal Holi hai. Isliye hum chahte hain ki aap bejhijak aur befikar ho kar Holi khele. Aur iss sab ke liye saare intezaamaat hum karenge.
Jodha - Parantu Shahenshah, Iss sab ki kya aavashyakta thi? Hume toh laga ki pichle saal jo hua, uske baad hume Holi khelne ka avsar hi nahi milega. Isliye humne aapse anumati lena bhi uchit nahi laga
Jalal - Jodha Begum, hum maante hain ki aapse galti hui thi. Par aapne woh galti jaanbujhkar nahi kit hi. Aapko apni galti ka ehsaas bhi hua tha. Isliye, hum aapko Holi khelne ki ijazat dete hain
Jodha - Theek hai, Shahenshah. Jaisa aap chahe
Jalal - Aur haan Jodha begum. Hum jaan na chahte hain ki aap Holi ke liye kya intezaamaat karti hain. Kya aap humein bataengi?
Jodha smiles and tells him to sit. She tells him to arrange for some colours and a few buckets of water in Angoori Bagh. She and her daasis would play there itself. Jalal agreed and left the room.
The next day, Jalal had made all the arrangements Jodha had asked for. He took a keen interest in all the preparations. Once he was sure that everything was in place, he told a baandhi to send a message to Jodha that all the arrangements had been made. Jalal then headed to the DEK to complete his work for the day.
The baandhi went near Jodha's hojra and gave Shahenshah's message to Moti.
Moti - Jodha, Shahenshah ne sari taiyaariyaan kar di hain, hum jaakar Holi khel sakte hain!
Jodha - Theek hai, Moti. Hum bas taiyaar ho kar aatein hain. Tum jaakar sari daasiyon ko apne saathlekar jaao aur khelna shuru karo
Moti - Theek hai, Jodha
Moti left the hojra to collect all the daasis. Jodha decided to wear her sindoor-red coloured lehenga. She wanted to wear less jewellery she knew that they would get ruined. But being the Shahenshah's Begum, she would at least have to wear her maang tika, her bangles and her big, rounded nath. She quickly dressed up and proceeded towards Angoori Bagh.
She soon reached there and Moti applied colour to her face. Jodha did the same and proceeded to apply colour to all the daasis. They also threw little water on each other. Jodha was enjoying herself a lot and was splashing water on everyone.
Meanwhile, Jalal who had finished his work for the day in DEK, happened to pass by Angoori Bagh. He notices Jodha applying colour and splashing water on everyone. She looked like a child who was very happy and playful. Jalal also noticed that inspite of her not being as dressed up as usual, she looked as beautiful as ever. He started walking in Jodha's direction. He reached where they were playing and a soldier announced his arrival. Everyone stopped playing and greeted him. Jodha went to speak to him. Jalal signalled all the daasis to continue playing.
Jodha - Pranaam, Shahenshah
Jalal - Aadaab, Jodha Begum. Hum Angoori Bagh se guzar rahe the aur humne dekha ki aap bahut mashroof hain Holi khelne mein aur aap bahut khush bhi lag rahi hain. Hume bahut khushi hui aapko aise dekh kar
Jodha - Shahenshah, hume to anand iss baat ka hai ki aapne hume itni sundar aur mahetvapoorna bhet di Holi par. Iss ke liye hum aapke bahut aabhaari hain
Jalal - Koi baat nahi, Jodha Begum. Hum sirf khush hai aapko itna khush dekh kar
Jodha asks his permission to leave and turns around when,
Jalal - Theriye, Jodha Begum!
Jodha - Ji Shahenshah?
Jalal (hesitatingly) - Kya...kya hum aapko...rang laga sakte hain?
Jodha was pleasantly surprised on hearing his words. She smiled and obliged.
Jodha - Bilkul, Shahenshah
Jalal takes some gulaal and applies it to Jodha's face. As he is applying the colour to her, she looked in his eyes and smiled. He smiled back her. He turned around to leave when,
Jodha - Shahenshah, dhanyavaad humein rang lagane ke liye. Par kya hum aapse kuch puch sakte hain?
Jalal - Haan Jodha Begum, Kahiye?
Jodha (hesitatingly) - Agar...agar hume...aapki anumati ho toh...kya hum aapko thoda rang laga sakte hain?
Jalal was really surprised on hearing Jodha's suggestion. He never thought that she would ask for his permission. He smiled.
Jalal - Ha bilkul, Jodha Begum! Aap bejhijak humein rang laga sakti hain!
Jodha - Theek hai, Shahenshah. Humne aapse poocha kyunki hum nahi chahte the ki aapko bina pooche aap par rang lagakar hum aapko kisi bhi tarah thes pauhuchaye
Jalal - Aap bilkul befikar rahiye, Jodha Begum! Aap sirf hume rang laga dijiye!
Jodha then took some gulaal and applied it to Jalals face.
Jalal - Aapko Holi Mubarak ho, Jodha Begum
Jodha - Aapko bhi, Shahenshah
Jalal then leaves Angoori Bagh completely mesmerised. He was happy and glad that he celebrated his first Holi with Jodha. He was happy that both of them applied colour to each other. He smiled the entire day remembering that moment with Jodha.
