PROLOGUE
Could he do this? Of course he could. He was the CEO of a multi dollar enterprise and was listed as the youngest Indian to feature on the Times magazine. He sighed as the lift opened. He checked his phone for the address he had been given. When he was informed that Anjali was going to meet Khushi he insisted to see her first. He put his hand on his aching arm as he remembered how his Tarzan sister had to be dodged and be forgotten in the parking lot. Everything to see Khushi. His Khushi. He had the right to see her first...didn't he?
'Gupta Interiors' the name plate read. He pushed the door open and found an organised but yet friendly atmosphere in an office. Observing the office, he came to a conclusion that the office wasn't bad. It was actually really good. He turned his head to see a woman coming down on the staircase signalling her PA Aman to come to her cabin. He hadn't been able to catch a glimpse of her face as she hadn't turned yet.
'Khushi', he didn't realise when he said that aloud.
She stood numb for a moment. Instantly recognising who called out to her. That voice, could she ever forget that voice? No, never. Hearing his voice after so long gave her joy and happiness and she was ready to just follow her heart and go run into his arms for a split second. But only for a split second. The very next moment, thousands of memories came rushing towards her mind, which had been forgotten. Or she thought had been forgotten.
She clenched her fists on both sides, closed her eyes bracing herself for the impact that was going to come next. She couldn't be weak now, she had to be strong. She turned around only to see his lopsided smile and have thousands of butterflies doing somersaults in her stomach. Holding all her emotions back she looked straight into the molten caramel eyes of the person standing opposite her. There stood Arnav Singh Raizada as mightier than ever.
'Look who's here. My my, isn't it his highness himself?', Khushi retorted. She couldn't help but notice the Armani that stuck to his body distinguishing him nothing else than a Greek God and his sexy smirk which gazillions of ladies swooned over.
For the first time after three long years he saw Khushi. His Khushi. He smiled. He couldn't help but stare at her from head to toe. White shirt and a black knee length skirt, her Gucci bag and million dollar smile which he could never get over. Who was he kidding? He had not expected that just seeing her could drown himself into a whirlpool of emotions. Wait, emotions? His ego questioned. Wasn't he emotionless? There stood Khushi Kumari Gupta, there stood the woman is heart always yearned for. Seeing her, he just wanted to leap and crush her into his arms but the next moment all the memories came back to him which had been forgotten. Or he thought had been forgotten.
'What a pleasure to see you. You've changed', he said
'I wish I could say the same about you. Your stinking ego and brooding arrogance can be smelled even from a distance' she replied.
'Yeah I missed you too honey. You're...'
'Cut the pleasantries Raizada, what the hell are you doing here'
'Ouch. Haven't changed much, have we after all? Must say you look quite impressive now Khushi. Almost pretty'
'Only if I gave two hoots about your opinion I would say thank you'
'Yeah I could go on but...' he was stopped when the door of her office opened and wait.. She didn't have the time to see or comprehend what happened as her body felt heavy with the number of people above her.
'Get away you morons I will die a suffocated death now!!' She screamed. Lavanya, Anjali, NK, Shyam all one enclosed her in a bear hug. Freeing herself she asked 'WHATTT THEEE HELLL
FREAKING BOZOS AAREEE YOU OUT OF YOUR MIND? She was shocked to say the least. She wanted to shout and scream too seeing the people she loved excluding him of course but she straightened herself and said, 'in case you haven't noticed this is a freaking office you dumbasses. This is my freaking office and I won't tolerate you all turning into a zoo. Get yourselves some fresh air to breath now!'
Lavanya was the first one to say something, 'shut up Khushi. Your drama won't do. Now close your laptop and announce in your dear freaking office that today is a holiday and so will the next days be because their boss is coming to Goa with her lovely friends'
'What? No, never will that happen. Why again? It's the conference tomorrow and the exhibition today, I'm participating...'
'No you're not sweetheart you're coming with us. I talked with aunty got her to pack your bag and spoke to your PA, you are coming with us. And plus there's a surprise for you...' NK said.
Before dear NK could complete his words, he was stopped by Anjali who put her hand on his mouth in order to risk spoiling the plan. She said, 'I am the final authority and I say get ready in five minutes now'
Arnav stood as a silent spectator to all this as he smiled at the fancy of his twin Anjali and his crazy friends who now made a madhouse of the office.
Look Khushi, we are leaving and you are coming with us in the next ten minutes okay? Shyam said. After all he was the least of the crazy idiots of his friends.
Khushi was dumbfounded to say the least. Never could she comprehend what had happened in the last fifteen minutes and how her perfect life turned into a roller coaster. After promising that she would come back in just ten minutes she ran into her cabin and calmed her racing heart. A holiday with him? In his farmhouse? In goa? After all this time? The thoughts raced through her mind. Ignoring her heart which was now leaping, she grabbed her purse and tied a bun around her messy hair. And turned to face the devil and her crazy friends.
'Okay wait you people first tell me when are we going', she asked
Lavanya explained that they would be back next week and couldn't disclose more as they had planned a surprise for her. She nodded and made a few calls and then stole a glance at him. He was too busy in his iPhone and hadn't said a word before everyone.
She placed her hand on her head and muttered something under her breath. Probably to her favourite goddess Arnav guessed. It was then when he saw it. It was them when his heart literally skipped a beat. It was then he saw a diamond glistening on her ring finger. Could she? Did she? No that wasn't possible Arnav thought. He was just drawing conclusions and soon he would ask her.
She took a deep breath as they headed towards the Mumbai airport and told herself that it was just a matter of days before she could return back. If only she knew what was in store smiled Devi Maiya.
