Rajeev Khandelwal on his passion for adventure sports and why he won't do a 'Nach Baliye' with close friend Aamna Shariff

As the show 'Left Right Left' (SAB) takes its seasonal break for 40 days in the wake of the World Cup Cricket series , speculations are rife that the lead actor Rajeev Khandelwal has quit the serial. Rumours suggest that the producers Tony and Deeya Singh (of 'Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahin' fame) would be roping in a new actor to play Rajeev's character.

At the 'Left Right Left' ('LRL') party held at a bowling alley the sporty Rajeev was in his elements as he 'bowled over' nine pins. "It's not 'right' that I have 'left' the serial. In fact, my character Captain Rajveer Singh will be back with major twists. The show will introduce hot, new girls after the break," quips Rajeev.

Interestingly, Rajeev will be performing to two film numbers at an awards show which is being directed by somebody who shares his name! "It's strange that the show's director is also called Rajeev Khandelwal. It's ironical, how times change. There was a time when I was making documentaries and Rajeev was a noted video director. Aspiring girls would mistake me for him. And the moment they would realise that I was not the guy they were hunting for, they would flee. Today girls call up Rajeev and disconnect when they realise that he is not the TV actor they wish to talk to," laughs Rajeev.

Not many are aware that the actor has a passion for dare-devil adventure sports. "My secret dream is to para jump from the twin towers in Kuala Lumpur," enthuses the agile Rajeev who surprisingly is not game to compete in a 'Nach Baliye' with close friend and actor Aamna Shariff.

"Honestly, I don't consider myself a great dancer, because I have to make an effort. I am not cut out for competitive shows," he justifies. Meanwhile, producers Tony-Deeya are also working on their next show for 'Zee Next' (upcoming channel) called 'Jhoome Jiya Rey' which is minus Rajeev but with a bunch of new faces.

"The letters in red made me think that possible that rajeev may not leave the show...can someone tell me what was the date of the deccan chronicle interview where ity was mentioned that he is leaving the show..."

Rajeev to do a Rajesh Khanna
Tuesday, February 06, 2007 23:10 IST

In fact, Tony even invited Rajeev as a special guest, besides his protge Mona (Jassi) Singh, for the party to mark the telecast of the premiere episode of his show 'Jeete Hain Jiske Liye' (Sony). The show has Renuka Shahane staging her comeback after a hiatus.
Tony said, "I plan to make a romantic thriller with Rajeev. Every time I watch him performing his romantic scenes I am reminded of the legendary superstar Rajesh Khanna."
Refuting reports that Rajeev is a 'fussy, tantrum-prone actor', who was soon poised to walk out from 'LRL' as he was dissatisfied with his role, Tony said, "On the contrary, he is so involved with his character that he shoots extra hours and was even willing to reduce his fees, if the show was going over-budget.
Being a serious actor who prefers a logical undercurrent in his scenes, Rajeev's commanding presence on the sets keeps everyone on their toes."
He added, "We are completing 125 episodes of 'LRL' shortly and there is no reason for Rajeev to quit the show." Meanwhile Rajeev seems excited with the film offer.
"Why not? I am game to work in a movie directed by Tony because I share a personal bonding with him," says Rajeev
