"Yeh Hai Aaj Ki Naari" : Saluting The Women Power On Small Screen!

This Women's Day today, we bring you a list of television women characters who are the very examples of women power in their respective shows. They may be essaying the roles of Maa, Bahu, Beti's the bahu or beti, but they depict Strength, Poise and Dignity.

Just like in real life, our Television's female characters also deal with various emotions but today many of the women characters on TV are not just the saree clad clich Saas and Bahu's rather they are Women of substance.

Gone are those days when Women Characters on TV were just confined to the 4 walls of the house and engaged in Kitchen Politics and showcasing regressive attributes rather than progressive ones but over the years the depiction of women on TV have changed and on this Women's Day spamdomain applauds those makers who decided to break stereotypes and bring forward a drastic change and those actresses who breathed life into these characters.

Here are 5 Women characters that stand out...Hail to Women Power!!!!

AVANTIKA HARSIH KUMAR OF PYAR KA DARD HAI (ESSAYED BY MANSI SALVE)
This is undoubtedly the most powerful woman not only in our list but also on Television. Coming from the Rajshri Productions, Mansi's Avantika is somebody the viewers look at in awe. You look at her and wonder why every Indian Fictional Drama can't have women characters like her? The perfect example of beauty with brains, Avantika is the epitome of women empowerment. Earlier in the show Avantika was shown as the MD of a Diwan Group of Companies a position given to her by her father Mr. Purushottam Diwan, because of her business sense and leadership qualities inspite of having a son which almost never happens in an Indian Household today she has started her own business after her rights as a daughter were questioned by her sister-in-law.

SANDHYA RATHI OF DIYA AUR BAATI HUM (ESSAYED BY DEEPIKA SINGH)
One of the most progressive shows on Television, DABH not only highlights the many social evils in our society but also the right and just way to fight it through the lead protagonist Sandhya Rathi. Sandhya is not just any Bahu, she is a career oriented strong-willed woman who dared to dream and also gave wings to that dream with the help of her husband. The current track focuses on Sandhya's IPS training post her marriage with the support of her family which is a rare scenario on Indian Television.

JODHA BAI OF JODHA AKBAR (ESSAYED BY PARIDHI SHARMA)
A Rajput princess who had the gumption to lay down conditions; for marriage to the ruler of the country. Playing the historical character of a Rajput Princess and Mughal Begum- Jodha is one of the most complex and amazingly written characters on Indian Television. The story takes place in the 16th Century and yet highlights Women in a stronger light. Jodha is shown as the epitome of Courage and Love and is well praised for her sense of justice. In the present track Jodha has been made the leader of the Mughal Harem due to her understanding of Politics and consideration given to every women of the harem irrespective of whether it's a Begum or a Bandi.

PAKHI RATHORE OF TUMHARI PAKHI (ESSAYED BY SHRADDHA ARYA)
She is no IPS Trainee Officer, not a Business Women nor a Mughal Empress. Pakhi Rathore is a simple house wife. But what makes her stand apart from other housewives and bahu characters of Television is her striking quality if being "Righteousness". Unlike other Television Leads, Pakhi does not believe in giving lectures to make a point, she does not mince her words when wrongs are done, she never loses hope, and courage and willpower are her weapons. She is smart, intelligent and wise. In short, she is the quintessential Modern Indian Contemporary Woman; the one, viewers relate to in today's times.

SANYUKTA AGARWAL OF SADDA HAQ (ESSAYED BY HARSHITA GAUR)
Like the name suggests the show speaks about "Rights" and in this case the Right of a Woman. Sanyukta is a young college going girl who was shown to challenge the patriarchal society around her and break all stereotypes. Sanyukta hails from conservative family she was supposed to get married and become a good Bahu, Wife and Mother, but when she does not get she right she decides to fight for it and get it no matter what. She fulfils her dream of getting into the prestigious engineering college, FITE considered as a bastion of male dominance. Challenging this misogynistic world and breaking stereotypes Sanyukta is the perfect example of the phrase "If there is a Will, there is a Way.

We hope you enjoy reading it and wish you all a very Happy Women's Day!
