CHAPTER-33.

The house was drowned in noise and activity,when she entered it,surprising her with buzz..

As she stared around amazed,her mother walked towards her with a bright smile on her face..

"Here you are Astha!Finally!Why did you take so long beta?!You did now it's your engagement tonight!"

"Ayi wo-.."

"Okay go and get a bath..I'm coming with your dress and jewelleries..Come on hurry!"

Astha almost stumbled at the push she was given by her impatient mother,but quickly composed herself,and giving her a fleeting distracted smile,she went up the stairs to her room.

Astha was ready in her dark green lehenga,with copper embroidery and matching jewelleries..

She was putting on her bindi,when she noticed a dark shadow behind her..A dark looming shadow that seemed to be keeping an eye on her..

Frowning she turned around,but on turning she realised there was no one..

She shook her head,smiling to herself that it must be nerves..

As she brushed her long open tresses one last time,she felt a sudden sadness take over her mind and body..

She looked up at herself in the mirror,and felt she was looking at a stranger..

She was getting engaged today..On the way to be tied completely to someone,she did not know a thing about..Suddenly an intense fear took over her heart..

What had she been thinking?!

Agreeing to get married to a stranger just like that!

She had to talk to her mother,before she-..

She had gotten up when simultaneously the door opened..

"Astha!Thank od you are ready!The groom's family is already here..And so are the guests..Come on downstairs..!"

"Ayi..I had to talk to you..!"

"Uff Astha!We will talk later!Now you need to hurry!Come on!And I hope no one's evil eye falls on my beautiful daughter tonight.."Kalindi gave a teary smile and put some kajal behind her ears..

Before Astha could protest anymore she found herself standing in the hallroom downstairs..

Her heart racing she noticed a sudden silence had fallen in the entire room at her arrival..She started feeling embarrassed at so many eyes staring at her like that..

She was about to chew on her bottom lip in nervousness,when a warm and friendly looking middle aged woman approached her..

"Astha beta..You are looking very beautiful..Today I am truly proud that I chose you as my daughter -in-law.."She gently caressed Astha's cheek as she said it,smiling tenderly..

Astha's hesitation vanished at seeing the loving smile,and she smiled back warmly as she respectfully touched her future mother-in-law's feet..

The kind lady surprised her by pulling her into a hug instead,and Astha felt her hesitations flying..She had a niggling doubt she had seen the lady somewhere but could not remember where..

Then she was introduced to her father-in-law,who also strangely seemed familiar but she could not really put her finger as to why so..

Suddenly she turned to her mother..

"Ayi,baba-.."

"Astha beta here meet your sister-in-law Sojal.."

Astha smiled at the young woman,but not before she passed a confused look at her mother..Why wasn't she asking her father to attend her special ceremony?!Should she herself go to him..?Was he angry at her?!

Astha never got the chance to think further as she was pulled among the crowds of relatives,friends and to be relatives..

It was after twenty minutes,she was approached by Kalindi..

"Astha beta,Sh-..I mean jamaisaa wants to talk to you alone before the ring ceremony..Would you go and meet him beta..?He is waiting for you just by the house at the lawn.."

Astha nodded agreement and walked out of the house,towards the lawn..

The lawn also had been decorated beautifully,she noticed with surprise.

Her bangles and anklets tinkled as she moved..But all her senses was fixed on finding the man who was going to be her fianc in some time..

She looked around hesitantly,and then when she was going to turn another corner,she saw him..

A tall broad figure stood by the rose bushes,his biscuit colored sherwani glowing in the golden light of the tiny lights lighting up the bushes around him..

Hesitantly,she walked upto him..

The only sound was her bangles and anklets tinkling once again..

She was standing a few feet away from him,and was hesitating as to how to greet him,or approach him..

"Astha..?Are you happy with this truly..?Don't you want more from your life than this..?"

Astha frowned..His voice sounded familiar,and yet his words..His words were giving her doubts now..

"What-.What do you mean..?You don't want to marry me..?You are not happy?"Her hesitant words only brought out a chuckle from him,as he stood still with his back turned to her..

Astha was now curious to see his face..

So she slowly walked closer to him..And he went on talking in his sensual husky voice,his face still a mystery to her..

"I wish..I wish I could stay unmoved by all this..By all this and you,Astha..I wish I could say am not happy..No i don't mean that.."He chuckled again,shaking his head.

"I only want to be sure am not the only one happy at the way things are happening..I-..I don;t want to be selfish in my happiness Astha..So i wanted to be sure if you are happy-.."

He never got to finish his sentence,as Astha slipped on something on the grass,and with a yelp,was falling backwards..

Just before she fell flat,she was caught in a strong pair of arms,and slowly pulled up..Still within the protective embrace..

Breathing heavily,she slowly opened her eyes,her vision was blocked due to her hair,tresses of which now covered her face..

She was holding onto his sherwani's front with both hands,and was about to let go,when she felt his hand move..

Slowly,and very gently the silky locks of her hair were moved away from her face.

Astha had closed her eyes,as he did so,and then slowly she reopened her eyes..

Her eyes took in,a pair of full but sensual male lips,a bearded cheek and chin,a sharp prominent nose..And then a familiar pair of dark eyes now looking at her with all the concern in the world..

"Are you alright Astha..?"He asked her softly,his husky voice making her blood sing and her mind became blank..

She stood within his embrace,still hoding onto his sherwani,tightly,and looking up at his handsome face with all the confusion in the world..

"What-..What are you doing here..?"She asked with confusion.

A soft smile touched his lips and his eyes twinkled with mischief as he pulled her closer up against his body,making all the breathe leave hers in the process..

His hand curved round her waist,touching the soft skin there,left exposed by the top of her lehenga..She gasped out softly,as familiar desire started shooting through her nerves at his touch and closeness..

And she watched mesmerised as his eyes darkened and his voice became huskier as his face came closer to hers..

"What do you think I am doing here Astha..?I came here to claim you as mine.."His husky words made her already scorching body,light up with need,pleasure and desire for more all at the same time..

Astha could not believe if this was real,or if she was dreaming it all,as she stood close and tight in his warm embrace,her eyes looking up into his dark mesmerising ones..Her hands still holding onto the front of his sherwani,close to his heart,and she could feel his heart racing just like hers was at that moment..
