Born in India and raised in Dubai, Rithvik Dhanjani's big dream was to buy a house in Mumbai. It turned into a reality recently when he won Nach Baliye 6 along with girlfriend Asha Negi. Despite being busy with Pavitra Rishta, Rithvik and Asha gave Nach Baliye their best shot and danced their way to the judges' and audience's hearts. The hottie who was in town recently for the GR8! Women Awards chatted with Masala! on his recent win, relationship with Asha and wedding plans.
Pavitra Rishta has had two real life couples acting in it - beginning with Ankita Lokhande and Sushant Singh Rajput and now, you and Asha. What do you feel about it?
Yes, this show definitely works for couples! The chemistry on and off screen therefore is much more believable.
Nach Baliye must have given you the opportunity to spend more time with Asha. How was the experience?
Yes, after joining Nach... and spending so much time together, we actually realised the depth of our feelings. It wouldn't be wrong to say that dancing on the show together has brought us closer than before. Both of us were injured during the shoot which made us concerned and worried about each other but it made us stronger as well.
A couple of years ago you weighed over 100 kgs. How did you knock off the extra kilos?
I used to weigh 113 kgs and got into an intense training regimen in Dubai to shed the extra kilos. Now I feel great and on top of the world! However it did not happen overnight. My weight loss journey required a lot of hard work and discipline. Fortunately I was never fat or flabby; probably it's because
my bones are heavy and I am quite huge.
Having lived in Dubai for most of your life how have you adjusted to the pace in Mumbai?
Mumbai is nice, quick, quirky, challenging and adventurous; it is everything that a city needs to be! Dubai, on the other hand, is much calmer, laidback settled though it is a lot of fun. I have 10 very good friends in Dubai from my school days and we are still very close to each other.
Do you visit Dubai to meet your family?
Recently, I just went for a day to attend a religious ceremony at home and later I was there for the GR8! Women Awards. But I haven't spent much time in Dubai of late.
How do you manage your time given the chaotic schedules that most shoots in television follow?
Well, there isn't much choice, is there? I have to sacrifice my sleep quite often. I am constantly juggling between projects and I need to do a lot of time management. I am either anchoring a show or acting in one, so there is never a free moment!
What is Asha's best quality?
I like her simplicity.
Is marriage on the cards?
No way, not any time soon. I do not want to marry now. We are not only busy with our careers but both of us are really young. I have just turned 25 and Asha is only 24. Maybe we will marry after four or five years.
What are your favourite shows on television currently?
I really enjoy Comedy Nights with Kapil, I also watch Game of Thrones intensely. I get angry when someone disturbs me while I am watching the show.
