Ch3
His son should have called him Lucifer.Zoya came to that conclusion by the end of the day.Tyrant, and savage would have beensuitable alternative names. She thought the herself. Her husband had the devil inside him with his arrogant high-headed orders. The man was also completely devoid of social manners.
Didn't he know it wasn't polite to pick a fight on his wedding day?
Oh Asad started out pleasant enough. As as they were done the vows they were to exchange the rings. Zoya slipped on a platinium band on his left finger, with 3 solid diamonds reflecting in the lights. It was the perfect size and the perfect fit, the only accessory Asad was willing to wear. Now when it was Zoya's turn to wear the ring, Asad turned her around to properly face him.He then gently lifter her left hand and slipped on the the most delicate and intricate diamond wedding band, along with the engangement ring, that would have been put on had he proposed before marriage. The 3 carat Tiffany's princess cut diamond solitare with its matching wedding band just seemed to be made only and solely for Zoya, as it seemed to have become more beautiful sitting on her lean, feminine finger. He He waited for an acknowledgement, a reaction and seeing one he pulled her into his arms and kissed the breath right out of her.
She had expected only a quick peck. She got ravaged.Asad's mouth was hot and hard. The heat the passionate kiss sparked made her cheeks turn pink. She considered pulling away but then gave up the idea. The kiss became so consuming, she didn't have the strength or the inclination.
The laughter in the background finally caught Asad's attention. He abruptly ended the kiss, nodded with satisfaction when he saw the bemused expression on his bride's face , and then turned his attention to the priest.
She wasn't as quick to recover. She sagged into her husband's side.
The priest gave them the blessings and announced them to be husband and wife to the entire crowd.
Ali wiggled his way between Asad and Zoya. She felt him tugging on her skirts and smiled at the child/
The priest drew her attention again with a snort of laughter
Priest-For a minute there I didn't believe we'd get it done.
Both the priest and her husband looked at Zoya. She smiled back
Zoya-I never doubted. She remearked. Once I make up my mind to do something I get it done.
Neither man looked like they believed her boast. The priest moved Ali over to him and rearranged the trio to get ready for the visiting line, where all the guests walked by and congratulated the couple.
Asad-Its just an organized way for people to come give us their congratulations he explained.Zoya nodded and looked forward.
Asad stared at his wife. It seemed as though he wanted to say something to her but couldn't get the words out.
Zoya-Did you wish to say something to me, Asad?
Asad-Don't call me by my name. I dislike that.
Zoya-But its your name, and it's a fine name.
He grunted. She tried not to take exception tho that rather mean sound.
Zoya-You should be proud to have such a grand name.
He grunted again.She gave up.
Zoya-Then tell me what should I call you, she asked him, trying to be accommodative
Asad-Mr Khan, he suggested
It didn't seem like he was kidding with her.She wasn't about to agree with his suggestion. It was ridicilious for a husband and wife to use such formal names. She decided to use diplomacy to gain his cooperation, for she didn't believe defiance would work now.
Zoya-Well wouldn't it look odd in front of all the people and all your staff, for me to call you such formally?
Asad-I don't care what they think.
Zoya-Then tell me what should I call you.
Asad-Well if you have to address me in front of people call me Mr Khan and that will be fine. Just don't overthink it.
Zoya-If I must address you??Have you any idea how arrogant you sound?
Asad just shrugged-
Asad-Well its good that you know early on that I am an arrogant man.
Zoya-No it isn't
He was done discussing this topic.
Asad-That was a good thing you did out there, including Ali in the ceremony.
Because he'd sounded so gruff and because she was still reacting to the ludicrous suggestion that she call him Mr Khan, it took a full minute for her to realize that he was actually complimenting her.
She wasn't certain how to respond. She nodded and then said
Zoya- He should not have been sitting there all alone when the wedding was going on, he should have been here already.
Asad tried not to smile. He really shouldn't let her get away with such open rebukes, but god's truth he was so pleased to see she had some spirit inside her, he didn't chastise her.
Asad-Next time I see that he does.
It didn't take any time at all for his barb to hit.The implication that he would marry again, wasn't lost on her.
Zoya-You like having the last word, don't you, Mr Khan?
Asad-Yes I do ,he admitted with a grin.
Ali, his fater noticed, was staring up at Zoya with a look of rapture on his face. The priest had moved him on the side for the people coming to greet, but the boy had already squeezed his way next to Zoya again.
His bride had won over the boy in a matter of minutes. Asad found himself wondering how long would it take him to won her affections. It was a foolish thought. Why did he care what she thought about him. The marriage had given him the business he wanted and that was all that mattered.
The staff and all the guests started to make their way to the alter, to give the couple their congratulations.Gifts were given, pleasentries were exchanged, and pictures were taken. The it was the turn of the staff to come by.
With every passing person, Ali was getting more and more fidgety. The courtyard was filled with people enjoying the evening snacks, and music and various array of foods and drinks.
Asad was busy taking with his right hand man Keith about something, while Ali looked at Zoya with eager anticipation, as if waiting on something.
Looking at him Zoya gestured at Calum, the head of the home staff.
Zoya-Umm can you get me the red bag, from my pile of bags??
Ali- Yes please Calum, go hurry, My new PSP is in there.
Asad heard his son's comment and turned back to look at Zoya. His smile was devilish.
Asad-So this is how you won him over.He remarked
She ignored her husband and kept her attention on the Soldiers.
Zoya-That bag has all the gifts for my husband and Ali, she hastily added. Will you please get it.
Calum nodded and made his way to the guest home.
Ali-Did papa give you a gift?
Asad-No I didn't,Ali.
She contradicted him.
Zoya-Yes he did,Ali.
Ali-What did he give you? the little boy asked
Asad was also curious to hear what she had to say.
She was smiling at Ali
Zoya-He gave me a son.
Asad was taken aback by her declaration. His son wasn't certain what he meant.
Ali-But I am his son, he declared. He pointed at Asad's chest so she would be sure to understand
Zoya-Yes.
Ali-Is a son better than a PSP and 6 games??
Zoya-Ofcourse.
Ali-Even better than a 100?
Zoya-Yes
Ali was convinced of his importance. His chest puffed up with pride.
Zoya-How old are u?
Ali opened his mouth than closed again, looking at his fingers and trying to count. From the puzzled look on his face it seemed he wasn't sure. She turned to her husband to get her answer
Asad-3. He will be four in a few months.
Ali immediately nodded in agreement to his father..
Ali-Yes I will be this much he pointed 4 fingers to Zoya, making her smile with affection.
Ali ran off as he saw Calum approaching them with the PS in 1 hand and the red bag in another.
He garbbed his game, gave Zoya a sloppy kiss on her cheek and ran off to a corner to play his favorite game.
The priest looking at the moment smiled
Priest-Seems like the boy has taken a liking for her.
Asad-She bribed him, Asad drawled out.
Zoya-Yes I did, she agreed.
Asad-Men aren't so easily won over. Her husband remarked.
Zoya-I am not interested in winning any man over,Mr Khan. Please excuse me I need to talk to my best friend.
It was a wonderful dismissal, yet completely ruined when Asad grabbed hold of her hand and pulled her hand.
Ayaan had to come to her.He was surrounding by women, ofcourse, because of his handsome looks and charming personality.Zoya had to wait a few minutes before Ayaan noticed her waving at him.
Ayaan walked by and formally acknowledged Asad.Their relationship had always been forlmal, but they had a mutual respect for each other, from the time where they fought together for a common cause. Apart from that, the 2 men kept their distance.
Ayaan- Zoya your aapi and Jeeju just went back to the hotel but don't worry I will send them over to pick you up in a weeks time. Yp can then come back for a little bit and get what you need ok??
Asad-Nobody;s going or coming anywhere. Zoya is not leaving LA and neither is her sis or Jeeju coming back to take her to NY. I've already talked to them regarding this and they have agreed upon it. SO its better you don't interfere with the arrangements any further. I Will make sure that whatever she needs is supplied to her right away.
Ayaan shook his head
Ayaan-You are a stubborn man, Khan
Asad-How much did you pay the lawyer to keep the issue at bay for another few months??
Zoya-What are you talking about??
Both Asad and Ayaan Ignored her question. He friend gave Asad the sum. Asad announced that he would reimburse him for that amount.
Zoya-Do you mean to say you paid some lawyer to keep Farhaan in the jail longer??Why Ayaan??
Ayaan-Because we needed time to figure things out for you and get you to a place where you were well protected.
Zoya-What if I hadn't agreed to get married or move to LA..then??
Ayaan-Then I would have found other ways to protect you. I would have done whatever it took Zoya.
The sun had set and the remainder of the guests were either moving into the tent for the last round of dinner or heading home.
Zoya-SO you lied to me, that Farhaan had a trial next month. Didn't you?
Ayaan-Yes I did, I had to to ease you out of ur fear Zoya. I did it for your own good.
She knew he was right and was looking out for her, but it still didn't feel right to be kept in the dark.
Zoya-Its alright Ayaan, all good.
Asad-Go home Ayaan, and don't come back. You have done your part. Zoya is my responsibility now.
Zoya was too stunned by her husbands rudeness.
Zoya-Now? She blurted out. You want him to go home now.
Asad-Now her husband repeated.
Zoya-My friend.
Asad-He needs to go.
Zoya was outraged by his behavior, she felt like screaming. Her husband wasn't paying her any attention now.His gaze was directed at Ayaan now.
Asad-I should have known. I have spent 4 years with u in college and she was... he didn't complete his sentence, his intent realized by Ayaan.
Ayaan didn't let him take this conversation further..
Ayaan-You're very astute he interrupted.Zoya doesn't know so leave it be.
Zoya-Mr Khan..
Asad-Zoya leave us. This conversation doesn't concern you
His tone of voice didn't suggest she argue. She stood there fidgeting the petals of her flower bouquet, staring at the change of expressions .
She didn't get a chance to make up her mind, as Calum knew a fight brewing, and came to the rescue, escorting Zoya to the premises of the house.
Calum-Maam the female staff have a lil something for you that they wanna give. Please come with me and take their gift. He somehow managed to take her away from the 2 men.
But Zoya kept looking back over her shoulder to see what was happening. Ayaan looked furious, while her husband did all the talking. Ayaan looked her way and saw her looking and said something to Asad and he nodded. The 2 men turned and disappeared down the slope.
She didn't see either one of them until the last rays of sun had left the grounds. She let out a sigh of relief as when she spotted her husband and her friend walking up the hill. Their silhouettes made balck by the distance and the suns trickery made them appear mystical. They seemed to look big and mighty. However upon looking closely, Asad easily towered over Ayaan by an inch or 2.He even looked more buffed in comparission.
She smiled at her toughts shalking her head to rid herself of such craziness. But one look at their face and she let out a gasp. They had been in a fight, it was obvious. Ayaan seemed to be the one with the most injuries. A bruised nose, a scratch on the forehead, and a few ripped buttons. Even his right eye seemed to be swollen a little.
Her husband, however did look a little better with disheveled hair and a cut lip with dried out blood.
Zoay didn't know who to yell at first. She instinctively thought of running to Ayaan and giving him holy hell, while she checked on his injuries. but stopped herself midway.she just remembered she was married now and Asad was her husband now.So he should come first. There was also the fact that, if she was able to soothe his temper, he might be more willing to listen to reason and allow her friend to stay for a few more days.
Zoya-You've been fighting.
She shouted the accusation when she reached her husband. He didn't believe he needed to agree. It was damned obvious and he didn't really care about the anger in her voice.
Zoya pulled out a linen handkerchief tucked in her gowns and stretched up on tiptoe to pat away the cut on his lips so she could see how deep it was.
She gently brushed off his hair just to check for more injuries, but he was fine.He jerked his head back in reaction not knowing how to react to someone fussing over him. He wasn't used to such fretting.
Zoya-Stay still will you Mr Khan. She ordered I am not going to hurt you.
Asad stood still and allowed her to fuss over him.Damn but she pleased him, though not because she was acting concerned about him now.No ,it was because she had come to him first.
Zoya-Did you guys resolve whatever was bothering you??
Asad-Yes we have.He sounded surly.
She looked at her friend.
Zoya-And you?
Ayaan-Yes..his tone was as irritated as Asad's
Zoya tunred to Asad and Asked
Zoya-Why did you delibretaly provoke Ayaan. He has been my best friend since Highschool. He has always been there through it all. You owe him an apology husband.
Asad ignored her request and grabber hold of her wrist so she could stop poking his cut and then turned to Ayaan
Asad- Say your good byes now. He ordered. You wont see her again anytime soon.
Zoya-NO she cried out pulling away from Asad and hugging Ayaan tight.
Zoya-;You didn't tell me the complete truth about him.she whispered. He isn't a gentleman. He is hard and cruel. I cant believe the though of not seeing you.I love you too much. You have always been there and protected me and taken care of me. I don't want to stay here.
Ayaan-Hush Zoya it will be alright.Khan has a good reason for wanting me to stay away.Learn to trust him.
Ayaan held Asad's gaze as he coaxed Zoya.
Zoya-But why??
His silence told her he wont exaggerate on the point.
Ayaan-SO anything you want to tell anyone back home??
Zoya-I am going with you..
Ayaan smiled with tenderness..
Ayaan-You are married now Zoya and this is your home now.You have to stay with your husband, Zoya.
She wouldn't let him go. He leaned down and kissed her forehead, pulling her away from him and gently pushing her towards her husband.
Ayaan-Take good care of her Khan or by all that is holy and right I will not spare you..
Asad nodded
Asad-And that would be right. He went toward Ayaan and shook his hand.
And he left.
Zoya stood there, her tears streaming down her face, watching her best friend leaving. And he never looked back.
Zoya found herself, suddenly so lonely. She looked around and couldn't even find Asad. She just stood there...alone in the courtyard under the moonlit sky, with no one to hold her and make her feel alright.
The cool wind finally got her moving, making her walk towards the mansion. There was not a single soul in sight until she reached the entrance to the house.
He saw her husbandd then.He was lazily leaning by the door, intently looking at her.
She hastily wiped her tears, straightend her dress and walked forward. She climbed the stairs with only one intention. To give him a piece of her mind. But she never got the chance, Cos the moment she got closer to him he grabbed her and pulled her close, into a tight warm hug, burying her petite frame into his body.He held her close, his chin resting on her head.
The man was actually trying to comfort her.His actions thoroughly confused her, but slowly she let herself go, feeling at peace in his warmth and his masculine scent.
She was just too exhausted to care. But she was still going to give him a piece of her mind.
Finally after several minutes Asad let go of her..
Zoya-I didn't like the way you behaved with my friend tonight...she said,..
She waited for an apology, only to realize she wasn't getting any.
Zoya-I would like to go to bed now, she announced.I am very sleepy. Can you show me the way to my room??
Asad-Well amy there will escort you to our room. They have already drawn you a bath and all's been set for you.
Zoya-OH..was all she could say..She hadn't thought she would be sleeping in the same room as his.
She was taken to a rather lavish and well furnished room. The room with its contemporary designs and furnishings looked, pristine and right out of a magazine. It had a balcony that directly faced the pacific ocean, the cool breeze of the sea, filling in the room.
Zoya was ushered into the grand ensuite of the room, where she was treated like royalty. After an hour of pampering and fussing over her, Zoya was given her night suit. She hesitantly wore the thing strapped, white nighty and covered herself with the robe.
She was tired and as soon as the ladies cleared the room after the cleanup, Zoya found herself walking towards the bed.
It was a cold night for her. With the wind making the room chillier with every passing minute.
She tried closing the balcony doors, but they were remote operated and she gave up looking for it.She had no strength left..she just dropped onto the huge bed, pulled up the duvet and started doze off..
She heard the door open just as she was drifting off.Her mind didn't register anything, until she felt the other side of the bed sag down a liitle. She slowly opened her eyes. It was alright, she told herself. It was Asad and not an intruder sitting on the side of the bed. He was taking his shoes off.She tried not to be alarmed
Zoya-What r u doing Mr Khan??
Her voice was a groggy whisper. He looked over his shoulder to answer her.
Asad-Getting ready for bed.
