We should wait a little for the story to unfold. The creatives have been telling a gripping story so far and we have no reason to believe that its going to get ugly except one line from an interview. The actress has clearly said they haven't started filming, so she herself can't be certain about the direction the story is going to take.
As for the spoiler, we don't know why she is in a cowshed. Maybe because it is simply because he cannot house her anywhere else without his father's knowledge or alerting others. Maybe he is protecting from Tejawat whom he knows is a terrorist.
As for torturing his mother, the indifference of an estranged son is painful by itself leading to enough anguish for the Thakurain. We have already seen him treat one prisoner with reasonable care. Even while intimidating her, he stayed within the limits of decency and treated as a person. He took care of her needs, protected her dignity too. He is no perfect prince who steps out of a fairytale. But he has given no indication that he will be cruel to a woman who was his world throughout his childhood. Lets us be a little patient with this one.
