Has Indian media lost focus on news??

Today I switched on my TV and checked my news channel and it went "BREAKING NEWS" guess what I saw, if you're thinking something about the darfur conflict or something related to loads of deaths, rape, you're wrong or perhaps some natural catastrophe, earthquake, tsunami you're still wrong. Nope, basically the Indian media were portraying the Abhishek-Aishwarya wedding. Apparently, they thought two celebreties marrying is more important (and to be breaking news) than AIDs

Its not just about the breaking news, its even about the general news, like for example some few days ago I read an article about how a school teacher molested this kid who was a girl, and that was just given a little paragraph in the corner, as compared to the abhi ash wedding details which was given TWO pages. It was about the guest list of abhi-ash, and their wedding card 🤢. This annoyed me on several levels, see when I turn to CNN, I don't see news about how brad pitt and angelina got married and more importantly I wouldn't ever expect this kind of thing to be breaking news, I expect some REAL news. Today I watched oprah, and basically it showed this part of India where loads of people were dying of starvation and how women were abused, and I got pretty mad. Because with our media, the pure aim seems to be just to "entertain", it seems every day they seem to be posting the same ash-abhi wedding. I'm OK for them just giving the information or I dunno devoting 5 minutes to it. But no, they apparently prefer shoving it down our throats that Ash & Abhi are marrying, I mean repeatedly showing the same thing, again and again. Now I don't think this is abhi and ash's fault, they want the whole thing private, what can they do? They even had security and all that (See, I even KNOW the security arrangements for the wedding, its unaviodable). No, I blame the media.

And so, I pose a question to you guys, I might be wrong, but do you think the Indian media lost focus on what news to post? Because I sure do.

Well I'm worried because the aim of news is to give information and make people aware and to not talk about somebody's wedding the whole time when there are so many serious problems prevailing in our country. I really don't take this lightly. I mean once or twice talking about abhishek-ash wedding is fine, but it everyday it seems impossible not to run into one article that covers their wedding, or some news clipping about them, yep they're great celebrities and all that and I've nothing against them marrying but is it necessary to shove it all down our throats when there are much BIGGER problems in our country which deserve to be portrayed?

As Maya always says, media shows what the public wants to see. I know not everyone is interested in Ash-Abhi wedding but no matter what we say, majority of Indian population is. When we have a HUGE number of people with nothing better to do than waiting outside Prateeksha/Jalsa to catch a glimpse of the wedding party, there are millions sitting at home wanting to know what Ash wore on her wedding day. Media caters to the demands of the public. No doubt, there are news that are important than this wedding but is that really what the majority of our population wants to see? How can it be explained why Amitabh Bachhan is voted as the most influential Indian of the year irrespective of who else is on the list of nominees? There's just no denying that we are a celebrity obsessed nation. Sad as it might sound, there's no turning away from this reality.

What I find disturbing with the Indian media is, their choice of extremes. Either they are showing very dark news like murder, rape or other gross criminal activities or reporting about page 3 kinda celebrity activities. Nothing in between. They should also focus on social problems, their reasons and solutions and try to make people aware about them. Another thing is development, they never focus on that, they should show them and how they were achieved so that people from other region who are facing the same problem can know how they can solve it. Moreover, news of development makes the people feel proud of their country and inspires them. They ignore these parts as not important or interesting enough and we've to rely on the newspaper for this kind of information. In this respect DD news are more balanced or atleast they used to be (don't know about now).

Wellsaid Souro ji!👏👏👏

The issue of breaking news really irritates me!Nowadays anything is breaking news!

Sometimes when an incident happens they fall on to the victims /their family members and interview them "How do you feel? what do you think about this incident and all"

Sometimes I'm amazed to see same topic in different channels "Exclusive Interview"!!

Cheers,

Mythili

what I hate the most about these channels is they proudly come and say aap ko rakhkhe sab se aage or sabse tezz channel or blah blah & blah.....

I feel so bad at the same time so very sad to see how we are utilizing our resources just to gain profit😳...

TimesNow NDTV CNN-IBN show NEWS and these hindi channels excluding NDTV hindi, show what we want to see... huh this way one can never expect or realise or know about the reality... how would we come to know about science and culture.... you see in many western channels, they telecast shows that educate people and teach every viewer about something or the other....

I hate the statement of that lady of SaasBahuAurSaazish where after receiving a Sansui award she said "Entertainment is also NEWS"🤢 I fail to see NEWS on that dabba star news ... what we see are just half-an-hour shows based on a family, or a wife who left her husband in some very bad circumstances, a girl who committed suicide in her hostel room, a girl cheated many men and what not... and every one hour we get to see national news in just HEADLINES that too just a jist of it🤢.....

I prefer news of Enadu Television & TV9 channel👏 these channels are though regional but show news about the state, country, continent and world... they cover every single thing that has happened around the globe along with the video clips be it about UNO or NASA, China or Russia, sports or games, gadgets or planes, finance or marketing... every possible thing is covered... they dont go according to what their viewers would like to see BUT they show what their viewers would know👏👏

I feel sick of these claiming high channels....... if they are really interested in spreading awareness among the viewers by showing casting-couch issue which increasingly hyped in the name of competition between channels, they should rename their channels to SOCIAL SERVICE channels coz NEWS is not about having sticked to one topic for hours & hours😡😡😡
