Aitraaz- sexist film?

I just watched Aitraaz again and found it very sexist. Akshay cheated on Kareena and yet was portrayed as an innocent man, and Priyanka was shown in a very poor light for wanting to be successful!

I remember there was an old thread that discussed how Bollywood films are often very sexist, such as Heroine and Fashion, which focused on the downfall of women who were ambitious.

Hardly see any such films on men. 😕

What do you think?

I don't remember Akshay cheating on Kareena after marriage though, I thought Priyanka was trying to seduce him and he resisted and then she later blackmailed him.

And Akshay was kinda innocent, cause Priyanka accused him of sexually harassing her or something among those lines when he didn't.

(I watched this movie a long time ago so excuse me if I'm wrong.)

that he carried away when she tried to get intimate with him..

khud barah koi dhudh ka dhula tha movie mein.

even kareena later told priyanka in the movie u had a small affair where u got pregnant and all but why dont they see the man who was part of it too..

Yeah .. Akshay didn't cheat. Priyanka tries really hard to make him cheat but he still doesn't. Later on, Priyanka lies that he tried to rape her.

I don't think the movie was sexist or anything. They didn't show Priyanka to be just ambitious. What they showed was that she could go to any extent for ambition and money. It was more like her character was morally corrupt.

Anyways, more than the movie, I liked how Kareena-PC fell apart after the movie released and PC got all the rave reviews. Usually, in such movies (especially in India), the wife's role would get all kinds of appreciations and the seducing woman would be portrayed as some kind of a degraded vamp (like Bindu, Aruna Irani etc. in older movies). So, I am sure Kareena would have never expected PC to get the accolades that she got.

Kareena usually gets along with the actresses who she thinks are not even competition. That is why she was friends with PC during the shoot of the movie. BUT then the movie released and poor Bebo hasn't recovered yet 🤣

BTW, I still wonder what made PC accept this kind of role. Either she didn't know much about BW movie business or she was just okay with being such a risk taker. Whatever .. she did get the reward, so everything is fine there.

^^ He did respond to her advances and got carried away briefly when she threw herself at him at her house. It was only when he saw his wife's picture that he realised he should stop.
