I think Paro is always a strong, loving and caring person.. Starting from her giving away her favorite doll to someone whom she doesn't even know, on many occasions her caring nature has been shown.. her concern for her Mami and Bindi..and now her taking a stand for Maithili. And exactly that is why I think the timing was not wrong. When Mohini was smashing Maithili with all those rubbish, there was no one to support Maithili. Paro, being Paro couldn't have just keep quiet and watch the torture. Doing nothing would have been proved no-very-Paro-like.

Regarding fighting back with Rudra, as I said she is always very strong. However, she never had to fight someone this way. After her parents' death she was always protected by her Mami and Thakurain. Now she has been dragged into a fight and she cannot but reciprocate with full strength.

In addition, from her first encounter with Rudra, she somehow knows that Rudra will not harm her but since Rudra has destroyed her life, she will not bend before Rudra either.
