Top Five Television Girls to Watch Out in 2014

Posted by: Swati Tewari , January 29, 2014

The new year is here and so are some new shows on TV! WSL lists out the top five girls you are gonna watch on your favorite channels this season.

Preetika Rao in Beintehaa on Colours TV

Preetika Rao

Film actor Amrita Rao's sister, a film journalist and a fashion model, Preetika acted in a number of movies down south before trying her luck in television. She debuts as Aaliya Ghulam Hyder in Beintehaa, a contemporary Muslim social drama.

Preetika, who recently mentioned in an interview that she is not comfortable doing reality shows, plays the role of a petite Muslim girl in the new show. Flaunting a traditional, yet glamorous look, she looks promising as a young debutant. Watch out a story of two individuals who don't love, nut hate each other and tell us what you think of this lovely babe.

Sanaya Irani in Rang Rasiya on Colours TV

Sanaya Irani

A popular face on TV, Sanaya is here with her first project with Colours TV as Parvati in Rang Rasiya. Parvati aka Paro is an orphan who believes in love. What is going to be worth watching is how Sanaya portrays this intense character.

The show is yet another love-hate saga where we see Sanaya in some really heavy and wonderful Rajasthani attire. She plays a caring and innocent gaon in gori in the serial and looks quite convicing as Paro.

Neha Marda in Doli Armanoo Ki on Zee TV

Still remembered as Gehna from Balika Vadhu, this is Neha's first project as the protagonist. Neha essays the role of the starry-eyed small town bride Urmi who is waiting for her knight in shining armor.

Neha recently mentioned she is happy to play her age compared to the rather mature Gehna. She plays a 19-year-old girl who has high hopes for life. Flaunting a girl-next-door kinda look, what's gonna be worth watching is if Neha will be able to break away with the Gehna-image.

Kanchi Singh in Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya on Zee TV

krystal d'souza

Though she is not really a new face on TV, thanks to the numerous advertisements she has been a part of, this is Kanchi Singh's debut as a female lead. She has worked as a child artist in Kasam Seh and Kahin Toh Hoga among others.
Kanchi plays the role of Avni, a college student from Jaipur who is very close to her family in this new TV serial. She looks pretty cute and innocent. Watch out for she comes across as a very bubbly and charming girl sporting designer salwar kurtas with jackets.

Krystle D'Souza in Ekk Nayi Pehchaan on Sony TV

Another Face that's relatively known to us, yet is here as a female lead in a brand new serial alongside the beautiful Poonam Dhillon. Last seen as Jeevika in Ek Hazaron Mein Meri Behna Hai, Krystle plays the protagonist Sakshi in Ekk Nayi Pehchaan.

What's worth watching is the interesting chemistry between Poonam Dhillon and Krystal in this rather different saas-bahu story. Both turn out to be great friends for each other which is a new thing as we are used to all the saas-hates-bahu thing!

I TAKE UP CHARACTERS WHICH ARE CHALLENGING: SADIYA SIDDIQUI

posted by Prerna Arora, last updated on January 30, 2014 at 12:06 am

Sadiya Siddiqui has been one of the most known faces of TV and after playing various character roles she has created a niche for herself in the industry. Currently she plays the role of Thakuraiyan in Colors' Rangrasiya and by her own confession she finds it challenging and intriguing.

Commenting on her role Sadiya said, "Once my character unfolds in the later episodes it turns out to be very different, challenging and something I haven't done before." Sadiya has also played a small but important role in Balika Vadhu as Anandi's school teacher and believes in doing roles which have some meaning. "When I was younger I was part of a Doordrashan show in which I played the character of a child bride. Few years down the line I became part of Balika Vadhu and for me it means life has come full circle. It is such roles that make the journey of an actor."
Sadiya also hopes to do main lead roles but provided the character has something to offer. "As an actor I believe even main leads should have strong characters to portray but unfortunately in today's time TV doesn't follow such norm. Rarely do you find characters which display strength and one who has take a stand. In Doordarshan days it was all about good actors doing great characters."

It's not only TV that Sadiya has worked in but also theatre and films and believes that the television medium has changed over time. "Everything changes with time and I think today TV is plain fantasy. Audiences like to see what they don't get to see in regular life. That's why I even do a lot of theatre to keep in touch with reality." Asked if she prefers theatre over TV and films she replied, "It depends on the role and I always take characters which are challenging to do. I'm an actor and more than the medium the role is important."

Currently, Sadiya's character is enjoying living in the Big Haveli and has no clue about her husband's illegal activities. But Sadiya reveals that very soon everything is going to change. "My character will soon face some torturous moments and undergo tough times. There's a lot to look forward to in the story."

Says Ashish Sharma who's happy being just an actor; talks about his chemistry with co-star Sanaya Irani

Unlike Bollywood, on television, one hardly comes across actors who go to great lengths to prepare for a role. But Ashish Sharma is an exception. Apart from working on his physique to fit the role of a military officer in his latest show, Rangrasiya, Ashish has also worked hard to get into the skin of his rather challenging character. The result is his sizzling chemistry with costar Sanaya Irani. And this has, not surprisingly, set the tone for the show. In this interview, he talks about all this and more.

Sanaya is already a star. Do you fear she will overshadow you?

She is an extremely popular TV star. But she's friendly and doesn't have a star aura around her. It's easy to work with her. I've never felt that she will overshadow me.

You both share great chemistry. What do you think is the reason behind it?

If two actors can communicate well during a scene, it works and makes for good chemistry. It's more than just hanging around on the sets.

Although you've had hit shows, do you think popularity has evaded you?

There'll always be a difference between a star and an actor. I've nothing against stars. They've earned it and deserve it. I'm happy being just an actor. When I came to Mumbai, I only wanted to be an actor and my approach hasn't digressed over the years. I never really hoped to be in the lime-

light or wanted to be a star.

Does your wife (Archana Taide) like your new look with the moustache?

She doesn't like it at all. But now she's made her peace with it. When I get into the shoes of any character, I work on getting the perfect look. For this role, I needed a desolate look and it meant staring into space for a long time. That drives her crazy too. But she's used to all the crazy stuff I do for my roles. (laughs)

Your show competes with your wife's show, Qubool Hai, in the same slot. What do you think of it?

Qubool Hai (QH) has a different audience. It has been on air for over a year. We have just started, so there's no competition as such.

SUMMARY

By Farida Khanzada

Cast: Ashish Sharma, Sanaya Irani, Ankita Sharma, Ananya Khare, Sadiya Siddiqui, Tarun Khanna, Vishal Gandhi

Monday- Friday, Colors, 9.30 pm
The stark, arid desert of Rajasthan serves as the perfect backdrop forRangrasiya, a riveting tale of love, hatred, guile and treachery. The barren countryside with miles of sand dunes, that merge into the horizon to meet the border beyond, echo with an eerie silence synonymous with the fear of the inhabitants of Birpur, precariously situated near the border of Pakistan. The place witnesses a big wedding celebration once a year between borders, when the groom takes his bride back with him to Pakistan. The village is ruled by the wily Digambar Singh Tejawat (Tarun Khanna), who under the pretext of conducting marriages, smuggles arms and ammunition across the border. And when the BDS (Bharat Suraksha Dal) strike, Digamber instigates the villagers against them.
Rangrasiya has all the elements "drama, action, fear, thrill, love and hatred " that can keep the viewer glued to the television. The story unfolds with a bus full of passengers travelling to their village in Birpur, a hamlet in North-West Rajasthan being ruthlessly massacred by the BDS. Ten-year-old Parvati, fondly called Paro, loses her parents in the mayhem. Meanwhile, in another part of the village, young Rudra simmers with rage when his classmates taunt him about his mother who has abandoned him and his father. The story moves ahead when both Paro (Sanaya Irani) and Rudra (Ashish Sharma) meet each other after 15 years in unusual circumstances. Rudra, who is an officer with the BDS, storms the wedding reception of Paro under the pretext of investigating the illegal smuggling of arms. The incident shatters Paro's life, when she witnesses her husband being shot dead by Rudra, leading to an unexpected turn of events. The show portrays Rudra and Paro's passionate and intense love story.
A taut script, that aides in smooth story-telling and attention paid to minute detailing is what works in favour of Rangrasiya. Both Irani and Sharma have done justice to their characters, under the able guidance of Siddharth Sengupta. He has succeeded in catching the interest of the viewer, building up the pace, tempo and drama throughout. From the clothes to the Rajasthani dialect, the actors have essayed their characters with ease. Irani gives an effortless performance as Paro. It only helps that the stark countryside, the white desert of Rann of Kutch and dunes of Jodhpur and Jaisalmer, serve as the perfect backdrop to this passionate and violent love story.

Verdict: An engaging love story with good production value.
