i think she is alive but he does not know where she is or he thinks she is dead...obviously Niranjan had a big hand in whatever happened but the blame fell on anjali...he did say to his parents at one point that what happened to swati was not right and he wont let it happen to aastha

so i think the car accident v hear in fb in starting episodes ...was i think he had accident after swati left...mayb he was drunk driving after she left and hence the accident...

and after accident he must decided to leave pune for good...and go away from there...and he became rude and chauvinist after that...
