Chapter 22

Shree opened the link.It was someone's picture.It took sometime for the image to load completely.Rathore and Arjun sat beside Shree and looked at the monitor.

The image gradually came up.It was a wedding picture,

Finally the image came up properly,

It was the wedding picture of Sushma and Dixit..

Arjun was looking at the picture in front of him.A young sushma clad in a beautiful pleaded white silk saree with simple golden border.Her hair was well tied in a designer bun and was covered with white flowers flowing down to her shoulders.Light jewllery and a pinch of vermilion,completed her looks.She was indeed beautiful.Dixit was clad in a white kurta and mundu.It must be quite some years back,both looked quite young.

Arjun looked at the picture intently but couldnt get any date or time on it.He kept looking at it for some time and then turned towards Rathod.Rathod was sitting on the otherside of Shree.He was gaping at the picture still pressing his lips.He had a blank face. He himself didnt know what he should feel about this sudden revealation.Sushma was married and that too,to a person they were working with for the couple of days. His kidnapping at the casino,then ayesha's accident,the attempt at the hospital again was all done by him.

He was angry,not with anyone on this earth,but himself.His life was always a mess from his mere childhood and there isnt anyone whom he could call his own.His longing to be loved by someone had led him to this helpless state now.

First Roshni and then Arjun,were the only one who had loved him in his life.But destiny again played with him and he couldnt hold onto them as well.

It was a pleasant surprise from Roshni when she visited him after 6 long years.She had come down to mumbai for some seminar and had planned to stay with him.He was busy with a case and had sent her to Arjun's place.Later after a long round of apology session she had finally shifted to his place.Arjun became a regular visitor at his place in those day of her stay.He did realise Arjun's feelings for her,but took it as mere attraction which was always associated with Arjun.

It was on his birthday when Roshni came into his room at midnight,shouting the birthday song,balancing her hand-made cake on both hands.He was the happiest birthday boy that day.They fed each other and smudged the cake as much as they could.They fell back on the bed hitting and laughing.Thats when Roshni disclosed her part of the secret,

'Sameer,Arjun kaisa hai?'

'Acha hai.Kiyu?"

'Aise nehi ache se batao,tumhara dost haina,tum ache se jante ho use batao na kaisa hai?'Roshni
said sitting up,

'Roshni tumhe kiyu janna hai.Waise acha hai.Family se zyada banti nehi uski.Uske papa ne ghar se nikal diya use.Wo nehi chahate the wo IPS join kore.Per Arjun police wala kafi acha hai.Har wo kabiliyat hai usme jo ek ache police wale mein hona chahiye.'

'Aur insaan kaisa hai?'

'bohot acha.Mera to wahi hai yaha,sabse acha dost.Ab bata kiyu puch rahi hai'

'Wo Sameer.We went today to shop for your birthday and he proposed me,'

'kiya?Arjun aise..mein usse baat karta hu,'Sameer said angrily,

'Aree sameer ruko,wo meine abhi tak kuch kaha nehi,socha tumse puch lu,'

'thik hai maat baat karna,mein dekh lunga,'

'Sameer suno to,I think i love him,'Roshni said shyly and softly.

Sameer was numb.He had never expected something like this.Arjun was the best person Roshni could be with but he wasnt happy.It pierced his heart when roshni accepted her feelings for Arjun.He realised then the relation he always named as friendship was also a part of his love.He has lost his love again.This time to his best friend.

Roshni shook him to get his attention,

'Sameer kaha kho gaye.Kuch bolo to sahi,'

Sameer looked at her twinkling eyes and her happy smile.He couldnt allow his grief to mask them.He smiled and punched her cheek lightly,

'kiya kahu?Arjun bohot acha hai,tumhara khayal rakhega.'he said and looked away scared to look at her.

'Sameer tum khush nehi ho?kiya hua?'

'offcourse khush hu,tum bhi na Roshni kuch nehi samjhti..'he said tugging at the cake and gulping down small pieces,

'tumhe kuch kehena hai Sameer?kaho na,'Roshni asked,looking at him keenly.

'haan.tum Arjun se shadi karo mujhe koi problem nehi,per mere birthday pe cake,bas tumhare hato
ka hi chahiye mujhe,samjhi ya fir samjhau?'Sameer said taking a large piece near her mouth and then eating it before she could bite into it.

'Sameer,'

The chase started.Finally after a long time they both settled on the floor of the messy bedroom.Roshni suddenly hugged him tight.

'Thanks Sameer'

Sameer held her lightly.Unknown to her a tear had escaped his eyes.He wiped it and started his blabbering about what a dangerous trap Arjun was falling into.

Days flew after that.Arjun married Roshni.Both were happy and so was Sameer. He didnt allow his secret to be revealed to anyone.Sameer visited them often and led quite a peaceful life with lovely friends who were his only family and a his desired job.But destiny didnt leave him.Then came the blow.Roshni was murdered in her own house by a wanted criminal who was being chased by Arjun then.

Roshni's death was the last blow to his almost decieved self.He lost everything now.He blamed Arjun and broke the once-cherished friendship.He blamed himself for not being able to keep his family safe.He lost his friends,his only family.He lost his support,his love and his life.He started living a reclusive life now.His desire for love was over.He accepted his destiny and started living a lonely,dejected self.Spending his hectic days and long nights in the four walled cabins solving cases.

But that too didnt give him peace.Sudden appearance of Sushma scrached back his hidden wound.But still he tried to compose and when he was strong suddenly her marriage revealation.

Arjun shook him to get him back.He looked up at him.

'hum dixit ko nehi pakar sakte,'Rathore spoke up.

'Right.lekin use is case se nikalenge kaise?commisioner sir ne recomend kiya hai,'

'kuch to karna hoga rawte.we cant keep a traitor with us,'

'per use to sab pata hoga na sir,hum use interogate kare to hume bhi pata chalega,' Shree exclaimed,

'nehi use interogate karne se Sushma alert ho jayegi,fir kuch aur karegi,we cant afford more,already
Ayesha hospital mein hai,'Rathore replied,

'haan.Lekin kuch to karna parega.Secret interogation?'Arjun suggested,

'Secret interogation kiya hai sir?'Shree asked them,

'Ruko Rawte,let me first speak to the commisioner,shayad kuch aur rasta mile,'Rathore said thoughtfully,

'rathore agar sir ne kuch bhi garbar,'

'Rawte logo pe yakeen karna sikho,'Rathore glared at rawte,

'tumne yakeen kiya na,kiya mila?'Arjun asked him,

Rathore looked at him and released his long held breath.He looked away blinking away his thoughts.Arjun too looked away,he has touched his weakest nerve again.He smacked himself for the slip but quickly diverted back to the case.

Shree was the one in between again.He was looking for an escape when his phone rang.It was Sakshi.He picked the call and put the phone on speaker,

'Haan sakshi,'

'Shree mera mail mila?'

'haan per tumhe kaise mila ye picture?ye galat bhi to ho sakta hai?'Arjun asked her,

'nehi Arjun.Mere mentor ne bulaya tha.Unhe ye picture apne informer se mila hai.mein use janti
hu.Ye galat nehi ho sakta,'

'tumhare informer ke pass kaise aya tumhe pata hai?aur achanak tumhe diya hi kiyu?'

'haan ye informer Dixit ke sath pehele kam karta tha.tabhi ye photo usne khicha tha.Khud shadi mein bhi gaya tha.Per dixit ne use hi fasa ke ek case mein andar kar diya tha.tab se uske khilaf
hai.Jab use pata chala Dixit ye case handle kar raha hai,usne mere mentor se kaha and he called me here.'

'okay aur kuch mila?'

'nehi aur kuch to nehi.Tum logo ne wo chip check kiya?kuch mila nehi usme?'Sakshi asked concerned,

'kausi chip?'Arjun asked surprised,

'Ayesha ne nehi di?meine use diya tha,'

'kaisi chip?'Rathore asked looked at Arjun who was equally confused,

'Arjun mujhe wo chip us din casino mein mili thi,jab search kar rahi thi.To maine rak li thi.Bad mein sameer ko us haal mein dekh ke evidences mein dalna bhool gayi.Us din subah hotel se nikalte waqt mujhe wo chip yaad aya aur meine ayesha ko de di. Usne diya nehi?'

'kaha mila tha tumhe wo chip?'Arjun asked her,

'casino mein,'

'casino mein kaha sakshi?'Arjun asked irritated,

'wo to yaad nehi..haan us room ke bahar darwaze ke pass,meri earing gir gayi thi,wo uthane gyi to dikha,warna pata hi nehi chalta,'

'Okay Sakshi.Baad mein baat karte hai,'Arjun said and disconnected the call.

'Shree Ayesha ka handbag kaha hai,'Arjun asked,

'mere pass hain sir,ek minute'

Shree rushed to the wardrobe and brought back Ayesha's handbag.

All three rushed to the sofas again.All of them hesitated to open the bag.They already knew the contents but still.Each looked at each other and finally Arjun opened the lock.He emptied the bag of its contents and searched for the chip.It was not there.Arjun checked the bag again.The chains inside.Nothing was there.

'The chip might have fallen in the car.we need to check the car,'

'hmm per aj nehi ja sakte rawte..its raining heavy outside,kal subah chalte hai,'

'hmm..Ayesha ka accident isi liye kiya gaya tha Rathore.'

'Per unhe kaise pata Ayesha ke pass chip hai,'

'uski chain waha gir gayi thi,shayad isi liye,'Rathore exclaimed,

'Sir,uske room mein bhi to chip ho sakta hai,'Shree asked,

'nehi shree,Ayesha ko chip hotel chorte waqt mila tha.to wo chip leke sidha airport gayi,fir waha se ate waqt accident fir hospital,she didnt reach her room,chip kaise hoga?'Rathore explained,

Shree nodded but none were actually convinced,not even Rathore.But they didnt want to mess her things and planned to wait till the morning,when they can ask her.

'Shree tum Dixit ke bare mein police records check karo,mujhe uski janam kudhali chahiye,chotu se kehena informers se bhi pata kare.'Arjun ordered.

Arjun turned towards the fact board thoughtfully.Except for Shree's typing sound,the room was in complete silence.Rathore sat on the sofa looking at the screen,lost in thoughts.Shree started working on his laptop.

After a long time and few reminders from Arjun,finally Shree brought out information on Dixit.He read through the information on the screen and then told them aloud.

'Arvind Dixit,born and brought up in Goa.He lost his parents at an early age in a bus accident.The bus had caught sudden fire and everyone in the bus died.Later Arvind started staying with his maternal uncle and aunt.

He joined IPS about 6 years back.According to the records he is unmarried.He has been posted a number of times but didnt take up for some personal reasons.Service record is quite well and was also awarded a few bravery awards for his work.'

Arjun heard him analysing every fact in his mind.

'his uncle and aunt stays in goa,we need to meet him Rathore,'he told Rathore,

Rathore looked up at him and nodded.

It was late and all retired to their room but Rathore was awake tonight.Lots of things happened today to take away his sleep.

He lied down closing his eyes,but everytime he felt dizzy sapna's chirpy voice and charming smile haunted him and he woke from his light slumber.

He sat up on the bed rubbing his temple and walked to the window.Grasping the bottle of water her poured it into a glass and stood at the window sipping the water quitely.It was pouring outside with strong thunder storm.He opened the window and let the rains calm down his senses.

On such a rainy night he had spend his most memorale night with her.

Though each and every moment spent with her was a beautiful memory for him,he always wanted to spend some more time with her.It was a long day they had spent with each other.Sapna was suppose to go on a special date organised by Ravi and she had spent the whole day shopping for that.Sameer being the love puppy had accompanied her to every small outlet she had stepped into.

Sapna had got into a jewellery showroom to get a pair of matching earings for the dress she had bought.She selected a few and tried them in front of the mirror.Sameer kept looking at her sitting on the tool beside.She would pick one earing,bring it near her ears,look into the mirror and then at sameer to confirm her choice.

Sameer rejeted all of them,stating aweful reasons.Though the fact was,he didnt like it that she was shopping for Ravi.He had reasoned himself almost everyday since they met,whether he was jealous of Ravi and the answer he always got was 'yes'.The pang of jealousy had not left him even today and he even thought of rejecting the offer of roaming shops but then one eager,cheerful smile from her lips and he gave it.It always happened like this.

'Sammy kiya soch raho ho?dekho na kausa lu?'Sapna shook him to gain his attention,

'tumhe zaroorat kiya hai,waise bhi tum us dress mein bilkul achi nehi lagti,'he replied looking away,

'acha?Ravi ko waise dresses bohot pasand hai,'Sapna retorted back,

'to use kehe do pehen le.waise bhi,utne chote dress bara acha lagega,'

'sammy,tum ravi ke bare mein ulta sidha mat bolo,'

'acha jee..SA mein yaha apna time waste karke uske date ki shopping karwara hu,aur mein kuch na bolu,to apna shopping khud karo,mein chala,'he said and got up to go just to be held back by sapna,

'sammy acha gussa mat karo.Tum hi batao fir,mujhe kiya pehen na chahiye?'

'nehi tum peheno apni ravi ke pasand ki cheezee,'

'uff batao na,'

'thik hai per pehen naa parega,'

'sammy,okay,ab batao,'

Sameer held her up and took her to a different showroom.She looked around,it was completely engulf in different varieties of sarees.

'Sameer saree,pagal ho?mujhe suit nehi karta,'

'kisne kaha?us nalayak ravi ka naam maat lena,'

'sammy,'she scoulded hiting his shoulder.

Sameer dragged her in and made her sit on the tool.The shopkeeper bought in a few bundles of saree and kept on the table.Sameer selected a black net saree and forwarded to her.She made a face and rejected it.Sameer held her up and made her stand in front of the mirror.Took the saree and put it around her shoulder.

'Sammy ye ..'she started,

'shh achi lagogi,'Sameer told her.

They bought the saree and got out of the shop.

'ab chalo,'Sameer said dragging her,

'kaha?'she asked surprised,

'mere ghar,saree pehenaa hai na,'

They reached Sameer's friend's place.His friend went out after meeting them.Sameer took sapna to his room and gave her the package.She looked at him confused.

'Sammy mujhe saree pehenaa nehi ata,'she said embarrased,

'dont worry mein help kar deta hu,waise bhi shadi ke baad pehena to hai hi,'he winked at her,

'nehi tum bahar jao,mein pehen lungi,'she said pushing him out.

But Sameer was a tough man.He didnt move.He walked over to the balcony and stood there facing his back to her.

Sapna understood his silence and pulled the curtains.She took a long time to dress up and finally she called him.Sameer walked in the room to find her clad in a saree but most of it was falling apart and held in position by her.

He started laughing at her condition and hugged her.She hit him feeling embarrased but hugged him back.

'mein help karu?'sameer slowly whispered in her ears,making her shiver with his touch.

She didnt reply.Sameer slowly opened the saree and held it to make her wear but she hugged him and he dropped the saree.

What followed after that was a pure mixture of love,lust and passion.They melted into each others arms loving each other for hours.Finally two tired souls slept in each others embrace.Sameer looked at the sleeping form beside him.He face was calm,with a small smile on her lips.

He held her in his arms covering her and protecting her.He had not forgotten Ravi,but at that moment he just wanted her.To marry her and keep her safe for the rest of his life.
