Chapter 6
The next morning had gone by quickly. I was with aunty, making sure that all of the decorations were perfect. It was 5 in the evening when I finally decided to get ready. I headed back to my house and started to get ready. The party was set to start at 6, so I had an hour to get ready. I walked downstairs, where my dad was waiting for me, once I was ready. "Arre, yeh kaun hain?" he asked when I came downstairs. "Papa, come on. Main itni bhi different nahi lag rahi hoon," I said. "Aaj tum bilkul princess jaisi lag rahi ho," he said and kissed my forehead. I smiled and said, "Ab chale, Papa? Nahi toh hum late ho jayenge," I said. "Ek minute, mujhe apni princess ki picture toh lene do," he said. He took his camera and I posed for the picture. "Ab hum chal sakte hain," he said. "Ek minute, aaj mere Papa bhi bahut handsome lag re hain. Main aap ki picture leti hoon," I said taking the camera from his hands. "Papa, smile." He smiled and I took the picture. "Ab chalo, warna hum late ho jayenge," Papa said. We headed out of the house towards Raghu's house. I walked in with Papa and was greeted by Aunty. "Antara, aaj toh tum bahut khoobsurat lag rahi ho," she said. "Kissi ki nazaar na lage." I smiled and looked around. Some of the guests had arrived and the party had started. I looked up at the stairs and saw Raghu. I gave him a thumbs up to say that he was looking good, but he wasn't replying. It was as if he was lost in his own world. That was weird.
I was getting ready in my room when my dad walked in. "Hey Dad," I said. "Aap yahan?" "Haan, mujhe tumse kuch baat karni hain," he said. "Haan boliye na," I replied. "Aaj ki party mein bahut baari announcement hone wali hain. Aur yeh tumari zindagi ko badal degi," he said. "Dad, aap ne jo bhi faisla liya hain, I'm sure mere aache ke liye hi hoga," I said. My dad had always thought the best about me and I'm sure that his decision would be right. "Theek hain, ab jaldi se tayaar ho jao, party thodi der mein shuru hone wali hain," he said and left. I headed downstairs as soon as I was ready and stopped in my tracks as soon as I saw her. She was looking even more gorgeous than yesterday in that dress. I couldn't figure out if that dress made her look more beautiful or if she made that dress more beautiful. I was just lost in my thoughts until I felt a hand on my shoulder. I turned around and saw my dad. "Yahan kyun khare ho, neeche chalo," he said. "Ji," I said and walked down with my dad. I stopped in front of Antara. "Raghu beta, aaj Antara acchi lag rahi hain na?" my mom asked. "Haan, bahut achi lag rahi hain," I replied. The smile on her face grew wider. "May I have this dance?" I asked, extending my hand forward. "Ok," she said and put her hand in mine. Her hand fit perfectly in mine. I led her to the dance floor and put my hand on her waist. "Waise Raghu, wahan tujhe kya ho gaya tha? Apni hi duniya mein khoya hua tha kya?" she asked. "Kuch nahi, main bas Dad ki announcement ke baare mein soch raha tha," I replied. "Arre haan, aaj toh uncle ko woh baari announcement karni hain. Unhone tujhe bataya ki woh kya hain?" she asked. "Nahi, tujhe kuch paata hain?" I asked. She shook her head and said, "No. Party ki planning maine ki thi aur mujhe bhi nahi paata ki announcement kya hain." We danced in silence for a bit. As soon as the song ended, my mom called her over. "Antara, yahan aao," I heard my mom call her. "Raghu, hum baad me milte hain," she said and left, leaving me on the dance floor alone. I sighed and headed towards some of the guests that were waiting to talk to me.
"Aunty, bataiye na, Uncle ki kya announcement hain? Mujhse ab aur wait nahi ho ra," I asked. "Batoon?" she asked. "Haan aunty, boliye," I said. She told me what it was. "Aunty are you serious?" I asked. I was so happy for Raghu. This was probably the best thing that ever happened in his life. "Haan beta, ab ek last time dekh lo ki khaana ka order theek se aagaya hain ya nahi," she said. "Ji," I said and headed to check one last time. Everything was perfect. I headed back out to the party and saw Raghu talking to some of the company's workers. I headed towards him and introduced myself to them. I was enjoying talking to them when uncle suddenly said, "Good evening ladies and gentlemen." Everyone turned to him and the lights dimmed. "As you all know that the party tonight is in honour of the return of my son Raghu." Everyone turned to look towards Raghu and he smiled. "However, there is also another major reason for this party. I would like to make a very special announcement. As you all know, we have opened up a new office in Delhi. That office and in fact, all of the Naik Textiles business, is now in the hands of my son, Raghunath Naik." Everyone applauded. I looked at Raghu and saw that he wasn't smiling. "Raghu kya hua? Tum khush nahi ho?" I asked, resting my hand on his shoulder. "Haan, bahut khush hoon," he said and smiled. "Now that's like my best friend," I said and gave him a hug.
Wow... Now I was in charge of the entire Naik Textiles. This was just amazing! I hadn't expected Dad to say this at all. I hugged Antara and headed up onto the stage to be with my dad. He gave me a hug. "Thank you everyone, and please enjoy the rest of the party," he said and we headed off stage. I was surrounded by lots of people and endless congratulation wishes. It took some time, but I finally managed to get away from everyone. I saw Antara with my mom and some other ladies. I went up to her and whispered, "Paanch minute mein uppar aana, mujhe tujhse kuch baat karni hain." I smiled at everyone and headed up to the terrace.
Terrace? Why? He should be down here enjoying the party. Anyways, I excused my self from the conversation and headed upstairs. "Kya hua?" I asked as soon as I saw Raghu. "Kuch nahi, bas tere saath kuch der ke liye akela rehna tha," he replied. "Tu Delhi jaa raha hain na, issi liye na?" I asked. I realized that this meant that he would be moving to Delhi. "Tujhse phirse door nahi jaana chata hoon," he said. "Delhi thodi na London jitna door hain, kaamse kam milne toh aasakte ho," I said. "Haan, par mujhe laaga tha ki London ke baad mein yahan rahonga, apni best friend ke saath," he said. "Main bhi tumare saath Delhi chalti hoon," I said. "Nahi, tujhe yahin rehna chaiye, uncle ka khayal kaun rakhega?" he asked. "Haan, woh bhi hain... Chal koi baat nahi. Main tujhse milne aajaongi," I said. "Hmm," he said. We sat there in silence for a bit, letting the sounds of the party fade out from downstairs. I don't know how long we sat there for, but it was long enough that the entire party had finished downstairs. But we didn't care. We just wanted to spend some time together before Raghu had to leave. Again...
