Presenting: The Ultimate Deathly Hallows Predictions Test

To celebrate having less than 100 days to go until Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows hits shelves, we are launching our longest and most interactive and most important competition EVER. The one that could make or break your whole fandom reputation. The quiz that will earn you your Harry Potter cred.

It's our Deathly Hallows Predictions Test, our massive quiz designed to record all YOUR guesses on what will happen in book seven. This is only part ONE - we'll release new questions every 20 days until July 21. Your predictions will be stored via your email address, and at the end of the quiz you'll get code for a button for your blog/Web page/MySpace/LJ/etc. that allows you to share your predictions with anyone you want.

After Deathly Hallows hits shelves, we will grade this test. Those who got the most questions right just may get some awesome prizes (so awesome, we don't know what they are yet. We'll let you know when we do). And since there will literally be hundreds of questions (we're starting with an even 100), a high score is cause for some serious brag points among your Potter pals - who should totally let you get away with it. After all, did they do better?

So, take the quiz, and enjoy - this is the last time EVER that a quiz like this is possible, and we want to know what kind of Trelawneys, Firenzes, Cassandras, and even Nevilles we have among us. Take the quiz by clicking here!

Mucho thanks go to John Noe, Nick Poulden, Doris Herrmann, Praxagora, and the host of Leaky helpers that gathered all the necessary info and fact-checked all our information. You guys are great.

New Court Date for Potter Critic Mallory's Appeal

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that the Superior Court of Gwinnett in Georgia will hear the appeal of the State Board of Education's ruling against longtime Harry Potter critic, Laura Mallory, and her claim that the fictional book's spot in the school district's libraries was teaching the children 'witchcraft.' Mallory's last attempt at getting the Harry Potter series banned from schools failed this past winter when the Board of Education upheld the School Boards past rulings (as well as other previous committees decisions) that the books should stay.

Laura Mallory requested the appeal after the State Board of Education determined in December that the Gwinnett school board acted appropriately when it voted to keep Harry Potter books in school libraries.
...
The Gwinnett school board decided last May that the books encourage children to read and should remain in school libraries. Mallory appealed to the state education board.

During the state appeal hearing, Mallory said the popular books are harmful. She said the stories encourage children to perform spells and that the books' good characters lie, cheat and steal and are not punished."

The May 29th court hearing "...will serve as a review of the decisions made by the state and local boards of education on this issue," Sloan Roach, the district spokeswoman said earlier this week.

New Interview with Evanna Lynch

TheDrogheda Independent newspaper has a lengthy new interview with actress Evanna Lynch where she discusses things such as working on Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, her role as Luna Lovegood, as well her feelings on Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. She described working on the fifth Harry Potter film as "just as brilliant and as perfect as I had hoped," and also says she had "lovely times" working with many of the actors on the set. Evanna, who landed the part in the film after taking part in an open casting call for the role of the Ravenclaw student, is looking forward to the release of the OotP this July noting "It will be amazing to be on the other side of the barrier this time. For the last premiere I watched the actors arriving and it will be so odd this time to be there also arriving with them."

Evanna also mentions her delight over the possibility of Half-Blood Prince being filmed in Ireland, as she says that "some of the cliffs in Ireland would be very beautiful for The Cave chapter. There would also be some great spots for Dumbledore's funeral. Needless to say I would be watching every day even if it wasn't a Luna scene!"

When asked if there were any similarities between her and the character of Luna Lovegood, the young actress replied:

"Yes, quite a few. Our taste in clothes is very similar. I proudly and happily wore her clothes and I think she would wear mine too. I believe that almost anything is possible if you see the possibilities rather than the obstacles; Luna has some very unconventional beliefs that need no basis of fact and while I don't share them I think it shows us that she won't believe things are untrue until you have some very firm evidence. There is no evidence to suggest that The Crumple Horned Snorkack exists but there is no evidence to suggest that it doesn't exist, therefore she can believe in it.
...
Luna is so free and seems to drift along with life, dealing with everything as it comes to her.I have more goals so I've more worries. I think that's why I love Luna so much. She doesn't have to have achievements or approval to feel satisfied and she's as wonderful and balanced a person as anyone could be. She knows worrying is pointless so she just floats and I really admire that in her."

Finally, echoing some previous comments from the actress made on PotterCast, Evanna Lynch gives her thoughts on what might happen in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

I know some things about what is ahead for Luna so I can't give you my ideas there . . .Deathly Hallows, well, none of us ('us' meaning the fans, we're a community :)) know, but we have theories. My favourite theory is that it refers to the veil in the Department of Mysteries.

All Hallows Eve is the time when the 'veil' between the two worlds is at it's thinnest. I think Harry will have to go through the veil for some Horcrux-hunt related reason and he'll have to get to understand death more and he may meet Dumbledore because apparently JKR told Dan that DD was giving her 'trouble'.

Also JKR is always emphasising that there are worse things than death and I think it would be very like her to trick us like that, so that Harry is 'dead' but we're still with him, death isn't the end. Most people think that he either lives or dies but I like the idea that it's an in-between."

Jo to appear on 'Britain's Rich List'

JK Rowling is set to be featured on "Britain's Rich List" next Thursday on ITV1 at 9 PM. According to Radio Times, "Every year the Sunday Times Rich List ranks Britain's top earners by their wealth. ITV gets an exclusive preview and meets the members of this exclusive club where the entry level is seventy million quid."

We are unsure whether this means Jo will actually appear on the show or if they'll simply do a short feature on her (with old clips/images), but we will have video online shortly afterwards either way.

Sign 'Support Jo Rowling' petition

We previously told you about a petition by JKR's Army (in conjunction with MuggleNet) which urged eBay to clamp down on the auction of illegal goods. JK Rowling is suing eBay since it has allowed unauthorized copies of her books to be sold, and a hearing is scheduled to take place on May 23rd.

The petition, which currently has over 13,000 signatures, will be forwarded to eBay on April 20th. However, we wish to gather as many signatures as we can before then. So if you haven't done so already, we encourage you to sign right here. Thank you.

JKR up for 'woman of influence' award

Jo Rowling has been nominated for the NCH Scotland Women of Influence award, which will take place in Glasgow on Sunday. She is one of five influential women in the category which recognizes those who have worked hard to improve the lifestyles and education of children.

A former winner of the title said, "These awards mark the significant contribution women from diverse communities make to our national life. In our mothers' and grandmothers' time women received very little recognition. Today, it is a very different story. The awards also highlight the vital work NCH does to support Scotland's children and young people and raise an incredible amount of money to support that work."

Good luck, Jo!
