debaters,this is my first post

sorry,if this topic has been discussed before..

All we know of reality is through electrical signals sent from our sensory organs to our brain, then interpreted. Most people accept these interpretations to be an accurate depiction of reality, but sometimes our brain interprets things incorrectly. We often find that an entity appears to be something, but upon further investigation shows it to be something else.

Why then, has our brain come to a false conclusion about what an entity really is?

How does our brain come to conclusions about what we see, and what is it misinterpreting?

The appearance of the entity can also influence our conclusions. What happens when appearance hides evidence or displays false evidence?

What if the entity is something that you have never sensed before?

how do u differ appearance and reality?

wanted to know what individuals have to say the differences...😊

if this topic already posted , mods plz close the topic...that's it.😕

It happens due to preset perceptions in our brain based on our previous experiences. When we see a certain thing, our brain perceives it in a way that it has usually found to be accurate in other previous encounters. If the present situation is apparently similar but fails to conform to with what we usually experience our brain refuses to accept it and causes an illusion. Did I make any sense.😕

Or it may be we were high on dope at that time...😉

Now seeing my first post and it's font someone who has not noticed the avi might think it's from Myth and will conjure the picture of a Raja Ravi Verma beauty for the avi. That's illusion.

Seeing the present post and it's colour someone might think it's from Naina Manam and will picture a house & garden to be there in place of the avi. Even that's an illusion.

Welcome to DM and thanks for a nice post.
the answer in simple IMO. As you correctly said, the initial brain reaction is result of touch, smell, taste, sound and vision.
But only when memory and learning centers are used, one can actually analyze the durability, quality, reliability, affordability😆 and other elements that make the thing one to be approved.
The former is instantaneous while latter requires more time. Simple?
I wish you could post similar thoughts in another thread called "love at first sight" 😆

yeah.😆.i can...mythili😳....a small difference ....
In my view,
The question of appearance vs. reality . What is genuinely "real?" What is mere "appearance," and not real? Assuming that there is a difference between the two, how do we distinguish between them in any reliable way?how does it happen?how does we know the slight difference?
cheers

thanx😛😳

😆😆I agree with you ,
It seems the older we get in life the more we appriciate the beauty in everything.. that is the way .
The brain collects evidence and makes a conclusion about the situation.
If appearances could themselves be realities, we wouldn't have the ability to differentiate the critical and non-critical features of objects
for eg
The appearance of the rainbow is not the reality of the rainbow, but it's the reality of how the actual rainbow is described by our sensory equipment and our minds. Appearances, while not reality, describe reality.
overall......confused lol....if i start to explain ,i myself eat my brain....lol..
it's a very confused topic..😕
