It happens due to preset perceptions in our brain based on our previous experiences. When we see a certain thing, our brain perceives it in a way that it has usually found to be accurate in other previous encounters. If the present situation is apparently similar but fails to conform to with what we usually experience our brain refuses to accept it and causes an illusion. Did I make any sense.😕

ok, well 😆😊ur on the right track i can sort of help you with this. I think what you mean by saying "appearance vs reality" is kind of like saying things are definately not what they seem to be apear....right😆😳....I really can't make it any clearer...coz....i myself know less😆😆😉...
