Haan usko entertainment ke liye kuch na kuch to chahiye hoga. Lekin zyaada dinon tak wahan rahi to Rooh Afza ka stock khatam ho jayega. Ab jo Chanakya aur Porus ne usko PR mein kuch waqt ke liye rakhne ka faisla kiya, unko aur Rooh Afza order karna padega Olympias ki mehmaandaari ke liye.

A night before the Battle of Chaeronea, when Philip, Alexander and Arrhedaeus were discussing the next day battle strategy, Alexander came up with a unique and unusual idea of attacking the enemy's troop from the front in the middle as it would give the enemies the impression that they aren't afraid of them and he exclusively called this plan of his as an attack on their 'soch' that Macedonians aren't afraid of them. So that, once they lose the battle in their head by losing their confidence, they would be easy to tackle on the field.

Chanakya too plans to attack on Alexander's 'soch' and give him the impression that Pauravas aren't afraid of him. So that Alexander becomes weak in his mind when he comes to know that the enemy isn't afraid of him and they can even do the 'himakat' of kidnapping his mother and still challenge him.

But this is only possible when they inform Alexander about this Sanskari Apaharan but the irony is that Chanakya is telling Puru to hide this fact!! Then what was the need of all this if they aren't going to convey their fearlessness (towards the upcoming battle) to Alexander?

Olympias thinks Porus wants to send her back as he is afraid to face an elevated form of Alexander's wrath upon knowing that his mother has been kidnapped by the Pauravans. She says ' himmat hai to mujhe yahan rakhkar dikhao'. Puru wants her to stay until she has a change of perception about Bhartiya valour which isn't possible at all. So guys, it is possible that she will stay with Puru till the battle ends!

About Kaala Jadu, I think Anusuya will catch her and would nullify the effect of her ill ritual by her positive ritual or so.

I also think that Alexander isn't going to kidnap Anusuya. He is asking for Dasyulok's companionship in the war against PR on the grounds that if he wins it, he would hand over Anusuya to them so that they can avenge Sumer's murder.

@Bold : In primary episodes, it was this one scene that convinced me to keep going with the show despite the bad premonitory feelings I had about Alexander's character. The military strategy that they had Alexander and his army deployed during the battle of Issus was actually used by the Greek fantassins on the battlefield who also had very strict military canons that mostly consist of not pursuing the enemy after the sunset, respecting the dead soldiers and not keeping them imprisoned or reducing into slaves any war captives but to keep them hostage in exchange of ransom. In case of victory, to not spread their hegemony by violating the civilians or sacred places. It was moreover the collectivity over a possible leader or Head of the troop. A general no matter how successful came out the strategy he planned, can't boast or appropriate the victory on his sole account at the risk of being banned. It was the efforts of the whole component of the army who served to put the strategy into execution that are primarily valued.

Thanks for those crucial and helpful reviews again @luckysnow. Sameksha looked sinfully stunning in those wavy brown curls. Even the mere sight of her back tending toward the scriptural mural as the sun peeks through was simply majestic ! And when she turned back, I gaspedttt. The way she heeds toward her enemies who are keeping her in hostage as if she herself summoned them there, with the controlled, maintained and poise with which she was walking closer to them. And her frontal confrontation and condescending tone as she looks up to Porus and the rest of his team. The whole time, I was like YEESSS QWEEEN ROLL AND GIVE US THOSE RRRsss LIKE YOU ONLY KNOW BEST HOW TO DO ! She ATE all of them alive with her outraged and fury berating eyes yet posed and confident tone that makes her only more threatening than ever. I really don't know what Porus was referring to the whole time he told Olympia, he saw his "bhe in her eyes ? She really was unfazed and unbothered to say the least, even though you and your little gang showed up to her all decked and buffed up. YEEESSS ! She finally said it ! Porus RAN AWAY more than several times from Alexander and if he's still alive it's because her son, Alexander decided to spare him to win him over in his own land. Ufff she gave us that pleasant and sarcastic tsk tsk to remind Porus that he had feigned his death in Takshashila to run away from Alexander. And her arguments are above all accredited by her being kept as hostage over there. What hospitality, dharm and tradition ? She was treacherously kept in hostage over there and none of these sugar coated words are going to make me see it otherwise. Olympia still stays winning as she really doesn't miss any opportunity to engulf them into her verbal scuff and provoke them openly as she descends the stairs of her chamber as if she was still living in the opulence of her Macedonian demeure 😆

Alexander was very much against abusing war captives and ordered his men not to indulge in that no matter what. He led from the front and was always there with his troops in the highs and lows. They were a part of his life and he cared for their wellbeing as if they were his extended family. When he conquered new lands he shared the riches with the soldiers too. No wonder he decided to listen to his men when they refused to march further east, and for their sake cut his adventure short and led them back home. Can you imagine what it must have taken for him to make that decision to return home? If he were a ruthless leader, he could have forced everyone to keep marching and have everyone, including himself, die glorious deaths on the battlefield. I'm sure those loyal to him would have marched on if he had ordered them, but he did not. This is another great lesson to be learned from this legendary figure and in fact it is this final major decision of his life that I salute him for most. He may have been crowned a Pharoah and been elevated to a demi-god status, but never forgot to be human. 👏

This is exactly why the show has become boring. In the attempt to paint characters as either black or white, the CVs have missed out on all the possible shades of gray that could have made the story interesting. They would never show all these morals and principled approach to warfare on the Macedonian side. The brilliant military commander who was able to defeat armies many times bigger than his own, did it with the help of his courageous and skilled men. This was the same person who chased Darius, the ruler of the biggest empire at that time, yet showed mercy and generosity to his family, who he deserted. These things are never shown. All we get is a scared looking Barsine being used to further Alexander's plans. 😡

Sameksha's killing it through and through. 👏

Olympias does not sugarcoat anything and is not afraid to call a spade a spade. Porus still hasn't gotten the point, but it looks like Chanakya finally realized exactly what he's gotten himself into, because he has only just understood why she is Alexander's mother and why Alexander is her son. She is a hundred times more dangerous than her son and is the master of mind games.
Yes, Olympias is held captive but it looks like she's the queen here. 😆

Mother-son are showing us how it's done, and that even so far away from home they can hold their own, no matter what!!

Aur woh bala ki khoobsoorat hai! Beauty with brains, talent, and courage. It's not easy for an artist to essaye her role without appearing to be over the top. She has the perfect balance and is forever elegant.

So glad I've discovered her through this show and I've become a HUGE fan of hers.

Now, more than ever, I want a show featuring her and Rohit, ideally as gangsters or Mafia dons or something. Can you imagine how spectacular they'd be?

May I offer a somewhat different take on this? Of course you don't have to agree with me, as I am almost sure you won't. However, I would like you, my dear Inlieu, to give my comments a careful and dispassionate reading. If you do that, it is possible that you might agree with at least part of what I say.

What makes for an ultra successful performance ? Note that I am not saying "actor', and I am assuming that the performer is competent.

First, appearance. That is to say the extent to which there is a match between the character and the actor. If there is no such match, the performance is handicapped at the ouset itself. Here, both Rohit and Sameksha are exactly like what we would have imagined Alexander and Olympias to be. And it helps that both of them are remarkably handsome. He more than she, but that doesn't matter. Full scores to both on this count.

Second, the lines. Very few actors can go beyond a bad script and flat lines. Alexander has excellent lines, but I feel that even if they had been mediocre, Rohit would have made them sound good.

Olympias too has good lines, even if repetitive and predictable; so far, she hasn't made me do a double take even once. More important, she never raises her voice, and speaks always in the same low tone and pitch. So I like her even when she hams, rolls her dark, deep set eyes, twists her mouth, and spews contempt on her auditors in a steady, relentless stream.

Third, attitude, and as a corollary, body language. This is especially important for larger than life roles like these. Both Rohit and Sameksha have attitude in spades, she even more than he does. But attitude is a dicey thing. Too much of it and the performance begins to verge on caricature. Rohit's Alexander NEVER lets this happen. I can't say the same of Sameksha' s Olympias. But she is always described as so much of a femme formidable that this can pass.

As for his body language, Alexander wins hands down.

Fourth, and the most important of all, for it makes all the difference between a good performance and a truly great one : the ability to produce nuances that educate the viewers in what the performer is seeking to convey, even going beyond the script.

Here, Rohit's Alexander is a class act.Take just one scene, when he has a full scale blow up with Philip in the open court,
and slowly makes his way to his mother's rooms. It has been, till now, the only scene where he was not dominating. He was crushed by disappointment and a sense of shame, both emotions never seen in his Alexander before or since. And Rohit aced it.

Now think back to the other blow up, between Alexander and Olympias, when he berates her violently for what she had done to Arridaeus, and almost disowns her. Olympias should have been devastated by such a reaction from the son who is the beginning and the end of her life. But there was nothing of that in her face.

Sameksha has a very striking presence, good looks in abundance and a general persona that fits Olympias like a glove. Given aggressive, dominating lines to match this persona, she delivers effortlessly. But I look for that extra, the nuanced performance, the display of minute shades of emotion. They are just not there in this Olympias.

So this is a good, and at times a very good performance. It is not, at least for me, a great one.

Lastly, of course Olympias is afraid, as Puru states with surprising perception. The High Priestess' prophecy haunts her, and she is always afraid for Alexander now that the muhafiz the Delphic prophecy spoke off is here in flesh and blood.

But I didn't like the way in which Olympias showed that, looking frantically from side to side while avoiding Porus' gaze.
There should have been just a flash of that gnawing fear in the back of her eyes, even as she continued to stare defiantly into Porus' face. Not this extra obvious technique. It was so typical, dumbing things down for SidT's target audience.

Now think back to the moment before Alexander lights the fire under the bull. For just a split second, his eyes are full of horror at what he is about to do. Now that is real acting.

Shyamala Aunty

PS: If the two of them do something new together, it can't be as a romantic pair. I doubt if the typical Indian TV audience would accept it. I am reminded of when Nargis married Sunil Dutt, who had played her son in Mother India. The general reaction was " Hai Ram! Bete se shaadi kar li ?!?"
