I understand you to an extent.I started connecting and sympathising with Barsine after Darius rebuked her for the first time when she spoke the truth in the PR court. At that moment I wanted someone to understand her and take care of her.Something which her father never did.By someone I mean Alex.
When she stood up against Darius for Porus and India I too saw the potential in her for further development.I felt the character would take a stand for herself and we would get to see different layers of Barsine as well.Likewise. I thought those later scenes with her father were the starting point of her finding her way, much like Alexander did after he discovered Philip's true nature. Alas, nothing came of it.Instead of using Porus as a crutch,I would have preferred to see her being inspired by his spirit and taking a stand for herself. Her track with Alex could have been dealt in another manner.Like they could have shown her using her brains to tactfully deal with Alex and negotiate with him on the behalf of her family. She didn't even try to use her hidden charm as she did with Porus in the past but I guess she lost her self confidence after being traumatized by Alexander's invasion and being abandoned by Darius. Then again, it's in times of hardship that one's true character is revealed, and now we know what hers is.Slowly they could have shown a sort of understanding between her and Alexander. There could have been a warm friendship and an affectionate relationship built on mutual trust and respect and Barsine's track could have ended with her departing for Susa and Alex going ahead with his conquest. She could have made an appearance later for her marriage to Alexander. This is the least we can expect from the CVs but I'm not sure we'll get it. They give too much time to Kanishk and Shivdutt. If the CVs really wanted to insert Puru into this storyline by hook or by crook then they could have shown it in a subtle way by Barsine getting inspired by Puru.To be honest the way the CVs shaped the character,I never got to understand her real motivations.
Yeah, it's hard to empathize with a character when there's no emotional connect. I personally find that Olympias has been the best at establishing that connect with the audience. Even though she no longer appears in the show, we can still feel the impact of what she brought to us. We felt for her as she plotted, strategized, smiled, and wept. Even Hasti, who has much less screen time, I can sympathize with because we know why he did what he did and his eventual transformation to join Puru's gang made total sense.
