In yet another game of musical chairs on the small screen, Smita Bansal has made way for Sonia Kapoor in Zee's daily Piya Ka Ghar.

From what we hear, Bansal bid goodbye to the serial as she didn't want to play the role of a mother and had no interest in continuing on the show given the current story line.

I put my foot down

We spoke to Smita who admitted that she'd made the producer of the show aware about her decision a few months ago.

"I had made it clear that at no point would I do scenes in which I had interact with my kids. Why should I play the role of an older woman when I am already doing a show where I am shown my age? I stopped shooting for Piya Ka Ghar some days back." In spite of informing her producer Bansal stuck on for some more time, to help the producers.

"They had brought in a lot of new people on to the show, so I was told to continue a bit longer. The producer felt the audience would not be able to connect with the show if there were a whole lot of new actors." Apart from Piya Ka Ghar Smita is also seen in Ye Meri Life Hai (Sony) in the role of Poornima.

Sonia is the new Shweta

Replacing Smita in the role of Shweta is Sonia Kapoor who also plays the role of Sonia Ray in Star One's Remix.

She's also done a cameo in Zee's Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa. She's excited about the part. "I started shooting today and I think it's a great role to perform. I don't know about the issues Smita had with the role but I am enjoying playing Shweta", says Kapoor.

Old is gold

When asked if she had any problems playing the role of an aging woman, she said, "She isn't that old as you are making it sound. The show has taken a leap so I will be shown having children. I don't have any issues playing a mother." Talking about Remix she says, "I have a blast on Remix. It's an amazing show. I think its more fun than work on Remix."
