INTRODUCTION
Indian Arrival Day is a holiday celebrated on various days in the nations of the Caribbean and the island nation of Mauritius, usually commemorating the arrival of people from the Indian subcontinent to that nation as indentured labor brought by British colonial authorities and their agents.

Guyana

In Guyana the holiday is celebrated on May 5 commemorating the first arrival of indentured servants from India to the country, on May 5, 1838. On this day, the workers arrived in Guyana to work in sugar plantations. Their descendants today comprise 44 percent of Guyana's population of over 750,000.

Trinidad and Tobago

Indian Arrival Day is a holiday celebrated on May 30 in Trinidad and Tobago each year since the 1990s. It commemorates the first arrivals from the Indian subcontinent to Trinidad, on May 30, 1845, on the ship Fatel Razack (a rendering of the Arabic Fath Al Razak 'Victory to Allah the Sustainer'). The many versions of the spelling for this historic ship reflects the difficulties of pronunciation and transliteration of foreign and East Indian names in Trinidad (as with the street festival of "Muhurram" or "Hosay" and "Hussay").

175 years ago on this day May 5, marked the arrival of Indian Arrival in the Guyana. The East Indians came as Labourers under a five years contract to work on the sugar plantations owned by The Whites. Although it was a contract, The East Indians still faced gruel Punishment just like the Africans who came as slaves before. After the Five year contract was over, The East Indian Labourers had a choice to either stay or return to their home land. Most stayed back, forming their own villages and upholding their culture. They started planting hence providing food for their family.

After 175 years Indian culture is still a major part of the Caribbean Culture. In countries like Trinidad and Guyana, East Indians are the majority of the population. Today we have lost some of the traditional Indian Culture, But the most important ones still remains. Like the food, Clothing and Musical Instruments. The music has evolved. Folk music has been changed to what we call Chutney. The Ancestral languages have also faded with only a few up keeping them. The ceremonies like weddings, funerals etc., changed rituals. Indo- Caribbean weddings can be distinguished from a traditional Indian Wedding due to the rituals.

Chutney has derived from right here in the Caribbean. It is a mixture of Indian Traditional Music or Folk. Lyrics are very cheeky. It was usually sang in Hindi or English in Bhojpuri folk, calypso or soca style. Instruments used are Dhantal, Dholak, Harmonium and Tassa. Popular Chutney songs are Kaise bani---Pholouri bina chutney kaise bani..sang by Kanchan and recently played in Dabangg 2. Another one is Mor Tor
