I hope that the bond between will forged on many little things and not just love. ( I remember one of the most endearing intereactions between TVS and Adi was when TVS was going Adi advice on relationships)

Chapter 11 – Vikram's guests

vikram - sugni we have a lot of work to do today.The painters and furniture company is coming we have to get the work done asap.

Sugni - sir you dont worry I will handle

vikram - I know I can rely on you, but sugni can u check with champa we need some extra hands and Ican hire her too

Sugni - yeah sure sir she will be more than happy.

vikram - can u bring her here we will discuss with her and then leave to factory.

sugni leaves in excitement to find champa she was very happy that vikram was offering her a job. She found champa washing clothes. Champa stayed with her father and step mom who was very cruel and made her do all work at home. Champa dreamed of getting a job and not depending on her mom for expenses. Seeing sugni getting a job champa was also eager to find one.

Sugni comes and takes her aside and says - champa vikram malak has asked you to come to haveli. champa - why sugni

sugni acts innocent and says - I dunno … just then step mom of champa comes and scolds her when sugni stops her saying - kaaki vikram thakur has called champa for some work

Step mom - thakur malak called u then go immediately and see if u can get some work done for him atleast this way u will earn some money... have u seen your sister Roopa she has joined college needs clothes u r good for nothing go and earn some money. sugni wanted to shout at her but stops and drags champa with her.

They reach the haveli and meet vikram.

vikram - champa I hope you are willing to work with us

champa gives a puzzled look

vikram turns to sugni - you didn't tell her …sugni nods her head as no

vikram - well champa as u know the factory is reopening soon and I need extra hands at work so will you be interested to join us? The look champa gave him made it clear to vikram that she was more than delighted to take up his offer. vikram offered her admin supervisor post and told her she would work under Rohit who had now gone to city on some work. vikram also offered her a salary of Rs.10000/- which brought tears into her eyes while sugni hugged her and gave a thankful look to vikram who could understand exactly what the 2 girls were feeling.

Sugni thought she had done some really good deed in her previous life so only god sent vikram in her life otherwise what was the probability of them meeting here.

A week went by and the factory modification renovation work continued at great speed sugni spent most of her time with Rohit and champa supervising the work she had very less opportunity to see vikram as he too was busy with his other factories work and had gone to city since 2 days.. She could also see champa and Rohit getting attracted to each other rohit was always making some excuses to talk to champa try to find out her likes dislikes. champa was falling under his slip and why not thought sugni rohit was a wonderful person with good behaviour attitude and a very good friend. she thought champa will be very happy with him if their relation takes next step.

One evening she and champa were in the factory the renovation painting work was almost done when sugni got a parcel in her name. She didnt had to guess who had sent it as vikram's name was mentioned on the cover. Heartbeat racing she opened the parcel. Champa had left few minutes back and sugni was alone. Inside the parcel was a small box she slowly opened it to find a mobile handset. sugni stared at it... she slowly picked it up for the first time she was holding a mobile in her hand.It appeared to be a new model. She was examining it when it suddenly started to ring and sugni got shocked. she slowly pressed the green button reading the command and said Hello

Hello Sugni!!! she could hear vikram voice at the other end Hello sir she said stammering.

vikram - glad u finally got the mobile how is it *vikram was eager to hear her voice and was desperste to see her these 2 days had been extremely hard for him when he finally came up with this idea of giving her a mobile so that he can atleast hear her voice.

Sugni - I just got it...

Vikram - well this is your official mobile keep it with u always

Sugni - yes sir thank you

vikram - so how r things there

Sugni - its going well almost all the work is completed.

Vikram - Thats great I am eager to see it

Sugni errr sir when are you coming back she asks hesitantly.

Vikram feels happy hearing her question and says tomorrow afternoon.

sugni feels excited ... she too had missed him wanted to see him. she was so used to seeing him daily that these 2 days she missed him badly she realized. They spoke for some more time and finally said bye.

Sugni returned home and showed gulabia her new mobile.

Gulabia - whats this sugni first clothes... now mobile... is it not getting too much now

sugni didnt wanted to spoil her mood and puts of gulabia saying its official mobile. gulabia wonders why vikram is besoting her with so many gifts, she knew she cant doubt him at this stage but things were a bit worrying... she decided to wait for some more days before taking any step.

Next day sugni leave to work happily as vikram will be back soon. she dresses up with more interest and applies extra quote of kajal and lipstick. She wore a pink salwar she had taken last year for her birthday.she looks at her reflection in the mirror and smiles back. Sugni reached the factory and found champa and rohit already there working and chatting.

Sugni - good morning both of you

Rohit - Hey Sugni gudmrng

champa - wow sugni you are looking beautiful today

sugni - champa nowadays you are also looking quite pretty whats the matter *sugni winks at champa* champa - oh nothing stop it na

sugni - well Rohit sir is also looking quite charming haa ..Rohit makes some excuse and leaves while the girls giggle.

Sugni - so madam whats cooking between you two.

champa - I dont know what you are speaking

Sugni - oooh you dont know...I have been watching since 1 week how you both are behaving... I can easily say you like each other , tell me champa I am your best friend…

champa - its true I like him but I am not a match for him

Sugni - but why not.. is he not treating you well or...

champa - no no he is a very good person always speaks to me like a friend never tried to behave otherwise.

Sugni - just tell me one thing do u like him or not

champa i .. I ... I not just like him sugni I love him but I am in no way a match to him. You know what just 2 days back he got a call from his mom and I listened without him knowing, they have finalized a girl for him , his father's business partner's daughter who are very rich...so tell me what am I infront of her and how can I ask him to marry me or even think of it.

sugni - but what did rohit tell his mom... did he agree to the proposal

champa no he didnt and I dont know the reason but i know one thing I am not suitable for him and thats it.

Saying so champa leaves while sugni sees faint tears in her eyelids.

sugni self talks ... if your love is true and his love is also true and if you 2 are destined to be together then nothing can stop you. who are destined to be together??? sugni need not had to turn to see whose voice it was.

Sugni slowly turned and looked at him. It looked liked he had come straight to the factory from the city,his expressions told he was tired from the journey but his smile wa same as usual.Sugni felt like she was seeing him after ages.

Vikram looked at her in a way which made her blush.As soon as he had reached the airport he had asked his driver to head to the factory where he knew sugni will be,his meetings and conferences had been hectic and tiring but one look at her had made him feel better and happy and he didn't know why she affected him so much. He just knew that he missed her badly these 2 days and wanted to see her talk to her as soon as he had reached Rampur.

Vikram – So what were you talking about just now? Love life destiny what not?

Sugni – Oh nothing sir I was just blabbering

Vikram – Blabbering about love? Tell me what it is?

Sugni got scared as to what to tell.She didn't wanted to reveal him about champa & Rohit at this stage, luckily Vikram's phone rang and saved her.

Vikram – Hey Vishaka… when did you come? Alright alright I am coming right now… just give me 10 minutes.

Vikram turns to sugni and says – My sister Vishaka has come Lets go to haveli she is waiting to meet you all.

Vikram calls Champa & Rohit and together all 4 reach the haveli in the car.On the way Vikram tells them about his little sister Vishaka who had recently completed fashion design course and was taking some assignments, she was equally excited about her father's factory re-opening & this was the first time she was coming to Rampur.Sugni observed how his face glowed when he spoke about Vishaka.They finally reached the haveli and Vikram ran out of the car. Sugni Rohit & Champa followed him. Inside Vikram was hugging his sister and once they came he introduced Sugni and Champa to vishaka who appeared to be very friendly & warm person.

Vishaka – So you are Sugni… I was very eager to meet you… Bro has been talking so much about you.

Sugni looks questioningly at Vikram when he touches his forehead & feels embarrassed as if caught at some act.

Vishaka – Bro has told me how helpful you have been since the time he came here & now you are working as his PA I am very thankful to you sugni.

Sugni presses her hand & says – No mam please don't say thanks. Your brother has also helped me so much this is the least I can do in return.

Vishaka – Please call me Vishaka

Sugni smiles. Vikram watches as the 2 girls talking about factory, life in Rampur, he could see they were so comfortable talking to each other though they had just met & Vikram was particularly happy to see Vishaka so happy with Sugni. He was worried if Vishaka may not like sugni though he didn't know why that fear had come to his mind.

Sugni Champa & Vishaka were talking when they heard someone say – hello Vikram dear !!!

Vikram – Hey Sanjhana seeing you after a long time.

Vikram hurried towards her and hugged her

Sugni looked at them and felt a lump form in her throat,she observed how this sanjhana or whoever she was was clinging to Vikram holding by his arm.She was looking beautiful and richly dressed in a jeans & tight tops, her hair was beautifully made, she had done a heavy makeup , everything about her spoke of richness and sophistication.Sugni gazed at her in awe when another girl of equal beauty and charm joined her.. Vikram greeted her and gestured sugni & champa to join them.

Vikram – Sugni meet my very close friend Sanjhana and her cousin Manyatha, Sanjhana she is my assistant Sugni & she is champa, both are working here in our factory.

The look Sanjhana and Manyatha gave them was not at all welcoming.Sugni & Champa nodded politely at their unfriendly Hello. Vishaka called them all for lunch.

Sugni right on the moment told her that she has some urgent personal work and declined the offer to stay back for lunch.

Vikram who heard her said – Sugni you can do your work later.. come & join us for lunch.

Sugni – Sorry sir but its urgent… she then turned to Vishaka & sais - some other time we will have lunch vishakaji but we have to go now. It was nice meeting you.

Vikram tried to stop her but Sanjhana was already calling him to come and dragged him with her.

Sugni felt a pang of jealousy as Sanjhana refused to leave Vikram's side and how he went off with her.

She gave one last look at them and left the haveli with champa.

Chapter 12 The Party

Sugni and Champa came out of haveli, neither of them was feeling hungry after what had happened.

Sugni – That Sanjhana was so rude.

Champa – They will be they are so rich.

Sugni – But what has that got to do with us ?

Champa – Didn't you see how jealous she was when Vikram malak was praising you.

Sugni – was she I didn't see

Champa – She was so only she behaved so rudely & her cousin she too looked like we are some beggars

Sugni – who cares for them , we are here to work & anyways its Vikram malak who has hired us not them.

Sugni didn't know why she was hating Sanjhana so much maybe because she was practically clinging onto Vikram and what was wrong with him allowing her to cling to him, holding her hands.

Champa- whatever it maybe, lets be careful of these 2 women & be as far away as possible from them.

They reach a small dhaba and have lunch & return back to the factory to resume work, the painters had completed the work, she found Vikram showing Sanjhana & Vishaka around. The machinery had come & Rohit was supervising their installations, Sugni & Champa went to help him.

Vikram found Sugni to be particularly serious & was not meeting his gaze through the afternoon.He didn't understand why she was behaving like this so far as he could recollect the day had gone well & he was delighted to see her bond so well with Vishaka. Then what happened for this change in her attitude, he decided to cheer up her mood.

Vikram – Sugni , Champa I am giving a party tomorrow evening and I want you both to come.

Sugni & Champa looked at him in surprise.

Champa – sir I cannot come, I have to take my father to next village for checkup…he has been unwell from few days.

Sugni thought of coming up with similar excuse but Vikram sensed it and said - aha dont even think of any excuse you are coming to the party and thats it. You have put in so much effort for the factory renovation today where we are it would not have been possible without you.

Sugni had to agree with him this time she had practically lived in factory overseeing all the activities. Rohit had been busy with other works and used to leave her in charge.

Vikram - so you are coming right Sugni nods...

Sanjhana - who is coming where Vicky? she comes and joins them and somehow Sugni could see Sanjhana was not happy seeing Vikram talking to her.

Vikram - I was inviting Sugni to the party tomorrow.

Sanjhana - oh you are inviting her? she gives a weird look to Sugni scanning her from top to bottom. Vikram - yes she is coming tomorrow Vikram looks at Sugni positively and she nods in yes which doesn't go well with Sanjhana and Sugni observes it.

Vikram had planned a party as some of his friends, Vishaka's friend were coming from the city to Rampur for factory inauguration. He had also arranged for pooja the following day.

Sugni and Champa headed home

Champa - why did you refuse to go to the party Sugni?

Sugni - don't you think we will be odd person there, as sir told all his friends Vishakaji's friends will be coming they all will be rich and high class what place will i have between them

Champa - hmmm I understand but malak is not like any of them he is such a nice person treats everyone as equal

Sugni - I know that's why I agreed to come to the party just for him

Champa - well Sanjhana wasn't pleased with this decision of yours.

Sugni - who cares I am going there only for Vikram sir

Champa - did you hear her call him as Vicky

Sugni had heard that very well and her blood had boiled, how dare she calls him vicky...she couldnt take it had felt like slapping her but controlled herself.

Champa - hey Sugni what are you thinking...

Sugni - nothing

Champa - Take care I will see you day after tomorrow I will be starting early in the morning to Birpur. Sugni - take care of your dad.

Sugni reaches home while Gulabia finds her a bit worried.

Gulabia - what happened to my doll

Sugni smiles at Gulabia for calling her doll

Sugni - nothing Mai the factory renovation work is over tomorrow Vikram sir is giving party in haveli and day after tomorrow pooja. He wants me to come to the party.

Gulabia - you should go Sugni you will get to meet new people and what about his family.

Sugni - Maa his sister came from city today she is just like him very friendly simple person she is so beautiful well educated but has no attitude.

Gulabia - well she has gone on her brother then

Sugni - Maa I am thinking what to wear for the party... never been to one such and so I am worried Gulabia - you can wear my new saree which you got from city for me. Sugni's face lights up and she hugs Gulabia - thanks Maa you solved my problem.

Vikram and Vishaka's friends come from the city for the party, Sanjhana and Manyata too had invited their friends after Vishaka had requested them. This was the first event happening at their haveli and Vishaka wanted it to be a grand success. She had ordered food to be catered from city though Vikram had told her there would be no drinks served. Vishaka took charge of the party while Sanjhana went for shopping to buy new dresses for the party. Vikram had invited his clients who would be associated with the factory once it reopens. All in all there were about 50 people in the party. The party began at around 6pm , Sugni dressed in the saree which Gulabia gave, it was a simple red saree with golden embroidery, nothing modern or stylish but decent, Sugni wore matching bangles and an artificial necklace she had bought in a fare recently.

Gulabia came and admired her, she then added a kajal mark near her lips so that no bad eyes fall on her and Sugni laughs. Gulabia wishes her to have a great time and Sugni sets off chirpily. This was a first time ever she was attending a party and it made her nervous, skeptical. She reached the haveli and was stunned to see the whole place decorated with serial lights of all colors, many cars were parked and looked like lots of guests had come. Her nervousness further increased as she slowly approached the main door entrance and peeped inside and just stared.

The party was underway , she didn't know why but she started getting scared, she peeped around and found everyone extremely well dressed. Her eyes searched for Vikram and finally she found him among a bunch of men in some discussion, on the cue he turned and caught her looking at him, Sugni smiled hesitantly and stepped inside the haveli. Vikram excused himself and walked towards her.

Sugni looked at him and Vikram stared at her, she was dressed in one of the simplest saree but still he found her to be the most beautiful girl among everyone present simply because of her innocence and sweet nature, even a simple dress and makeup would make her look very beautiful and this was what was drawing him towards her. The party was full of beautiful women be it his friends, Vishaka or Sanjhana's friends yet for him she stood out among the crowd, no matter what she wore she looked beautiful, there was something special about her which no other women possessed here, He heard her sweet voice saying good evening sir

Vikram - its indeed a good evening Sugni and I am happy you came to the party.

Sugni just smiled at him, Vikram found her bewitching.

Vishaka came to welcome her - Hi Sugni good to see you here

Sugni - hello mam you have made great arrangements in such short time

Vikram - Thats my sister she is very capable and Vikram puts a hand on Vishaka' s shoulder while Vishaka smile affectionately at him Vikram tells Sugni that many of his clients and friends have come from city. Vikram is about to introduce her to some of his close friends when he gets an urgent call and goes upstairs to answer it. Sugni wonders if it's an important call while Vishaka too excuses herself to check if the caterers have arrived. Sugni stood alone in a corner and felt uneasy and out of place. There was no one in the party whom she knew, Rohit was also not to be seen, and she wondered where he might be.

Just then she heard someone laugh behind her and turned to find its Sanjhana, Manyatha and their group of friends.

Sanjhana - Look who's here Vikram's PA

One of the guys - Vikram's PA ??? You must be joking

Sanjhana - no really she is

Manyatha - I wonder what he saw in her to hire her

One of the girls - he didn't see anything in her so hired her...they all start to giggle...

Sugni didn't know what to say & said - No I know how to work Vikram sir trusts me

Sanjhana - Trust my foot.. he hired you because he couldn't find anyone in this stupid village of yours. Sugni - pls don't say like that , this village matters a lot to Vikram sir

Manyatha - you think you know everything about Vikram... haha he is just using you to get the work done

Sugni looks horror stuck at her. Sanjhana - exactly otherwise why would he hire a dumb village girl like you... he felt sympathetic towards you that's why he gave you job.

Sugni - Thats not true... I got job due to my merit

Sanjhana - its not... Vikram made you believe so... all this praising you encouraging you calling you to party ... you think he cares for you... no way. Sugni couldn't believe what Sanjhana was saying... how could Vikram behave like that with her all these days. How could he fool her for so long... she had not gone to him begging for a job.. tears started stinging her eyes as she recalled all good moments spent with Vikram.

Sanjhana - go away from here Sugni there is no place for you here... nor in this factory nor in Vikram's life

Manyatha - Vikram wouldn't care to look twice at her...see her dressing, her appearance, way of speaking she is just meant for this village not for a Secretary to a business tycoon.

Sugni could take no more of this humiliation and before more people ridicule her she ran away from there in tears while Sanjhana looked very happy

Manyatha - great move Sanjhana serves her right

Sanjhana - yes I had to do it...now she will hate Vikram and stay away from here

Manyatha - this calls for a celebration. .

Sugni kept running without seeing where she was going... she had finally reached the river side darkness was setting in and she wanted a quite place where she could sit and cry her heart out... oh what a fool I have been... trusting him so much ... can Sanjhana mam be right did Vikram sir hire me just out of sympathy? Was he showing me pity or charity even after I had told him clearly that I don't want his sympathy. .. Why did he do all this? All that shopping buying me clothes taking me for lunch, gifting me mobile phone can all that be fake? A drama? But why what was the need who was she to waste his time on Sugni went on thinking and no matter how hard she thought she could not dissect the matter she couldn't come to accept that Vikram had been faking with her all this while. It must have been close to one hour that she was sitting by the riverside lost in thoughts when a beam of light fell on her blinding her view, she struggled to see from where it was coming and finally she saw Vikram standing next to his car glaring angrily at her.
