Gulabiya did whatever she could to safeguard her daughter Sugni's interests given their bedini background. She has honestly fulfilled her duties towards Sugni despite the odds heavily against them. Ofcourse, she is not Mother India but Sugni is lucky to have a mother like her. The award should be seen in the light of mother - child relationship rather than questioning the scruples of Gulabiya regarding others.

She did whatever was best for her daughter given the circumstances.

Society does not attach any morals to a bedini. So questioning Gulabiya's morals itself is not justified.However she , inspite of being a bedia has proved to be more upright at times than those normal sections of the society who consider themselves as upholder of righteousness.

Leave the award thing, she has fared very well as a mother.
