My take. Of course clash of ideologies would have come in, so would be ego battles . But what I feel is the fact that both Abeer's dad and Meher's bua had a big role to play in that divorce.
Abeer's dad would never have approved of his marriage to Meher because of social standing as he might be a man who give very much importance to family status and fame. Alliance of Abeer and Meher would have topled his business plan as he might have wanted Abeer to marry some business honcho's daughter, as in many high societies marriage is a medium of creating new ties and business expansion. So from day one he might have been waiting for issues to crop up to ensure Abeer-Meher marriage is not a success. And when issues came he might have made mountain out of mole hill
Meher's bua being a divorcee attorney instead of trying to understand the problem and solve it would have wanted to make her take the escape route of divorce. Problems which would have been solved by give and take, she would have told Meher not to tolerate with dialogues like you are educated, you should not bend etc etc.. I mean some kind of extreme feminism. Meher who have seen her parent's broken marriage went as she said as she might have had some trust deficit also.
So simple problems which could be solved by just sitting, talking and giving in were swept under the carpet, when they came out many other people were involved and this might have ended in divorce.
