jalebi (or can eat it. i hated it since i was a child😆) ,
I love it but I figure that some things are best eaten outside..😉
ice cream (poor ice cream parlors.............. 😕what are they gonna do if i start making it at home? 😆)
Ditto!!My mom made it when we were kids and got a new fridge..I bet anyone including that amma would make it at home🤢
peanut masala ( i never knew this is also considered one of the starters. what is it really? peanuts roasted in masala? thats it?)
It is in fact very easy to make. I made them for a cocktail party here. here is the recipe for interested souls😳

Roast the peanuts till golden brown in color. Let them cool. Meanwhile, chop an onion and tomatoes into small pieces. Mix peanuts with onion, tomatoes, red chilli powder, chaat masala and salt. Add lemon juice and serve. Granish with cilantro!!

pakoda and samosal (why did they leave kachori, pani puri...... that won't be difficult too 🤣 )

I wonder what are the mom's passing on to their bahu's??fried, calorie laden foods [Jalebi, samosa, pakoda, ice cream, fruit cream). Heart Attack party😆My husband would have rejected me if I ever made all this dishes on a singleday...
I am now on my thinking spree............... kya hota agar main inme se ek hoti? Kya hota bichari sasuma o ka? Main to ekdum laga deti unki...............
Tum inme se hotee to kisi ko select nahi kartee😉 Like meena said these girlsare awaara😆
I will say what the hell? Haa Haa this way, you wont even get a bahu in heavens.......... sab bhag jayegi.......... achha hai!!!!!!!!!!!! the hell with you and the hell with your menu.......... main to chali......... khud hi banate raho ye sab barso tak aur khate khate fulte raho 🤣
I hope my MIL does not ask me to make these things😲 I lived with them only for 1 week after marriage😳 ab India jaoongee tab pata chalega😃
Meri to is me se sirf 2-3 items banane main hi fat jati hai aur yaha shadi ka khana ban raha hai................ enjoy girls.......... you are going to be maids and cooks........... not bahus.....
I make elabroate meals on regular occassions but the rule of thumb to party menu is no more than 2 appetizers (one can be fried), 2 veggie dishes, one salad, either rice/roti, 1 dessert. Its a wastage of time, energy and resources to cook so many items, since a normal person would not be able to devor the taste of so many things. Those Mom's certainly dont think much.

wow... some of you girls think its too much.... well when we have guests at my parent's house or my in law's house, we make almost these many things....... i mean not the jalebis of course..... because I think some "halwayis" can make relaly good jalebis... and we have one of those..........who makes yummmmmyyyyyyyy jalebis.....
but anyways, yeah this is not a big menu..... I am a doctor, but when we have a gathering of about 10-12 people, I like to make all these things.... and making all these things doesnt make you a less bahu and more chef....
I think these mother in laws have every right to see if the girls can make all these items.... they may not have to make it in a single day after marriage, but there maybe occassions where they will be making one thing or the other..... and there are so many girls.... together they can do all this work in just couple of hours.......
I am amazed how some girls in this forum are so dejected by the idea of this cooking test....... I am not saying every girl has to know how to make all these things...my sister doesnt know everything... but the things in this menu are just so simple!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In my opinion, a party is thrown so that one can enjoy quality time with their guests. Doing all this only takes away one;s mind away from the 'focus'. Not to mention preparation, cleaning up after wards. My relatives have made lot of items on festivals etc. But, I would not have done this for people whom I dont know, for people who at the moment are not related to me, for people who are not my friends or for people who I dont know will or will not be associated with me in the future. Doing this once in a while for your OWN family is a completely different thing.

but anyways, yeah this is not a big menu..... I am a doctor, but when we have a gathering of about 10-12 people, I like to make all these things.... and making all these things doesnt make you a less bahu and more chef....
I am a Doctor too, not a medical Dr, but Dr nevetheless😛. If this is not a big menu what is?😕 14 items???😲 Plus, not to forget one kitchen and too many cooks, limited time, mix of people whose eating habits and tastes are unknown. I know many girls who did not know cooking before marriage. They still got married and now learntt cooking after marriage and guess what they never had to take any of these 'tests'. So what happens, if the rice is not cooked the way someone wants..each house has different styles of cooking. In this way, I am sure the MIL's and groom;s Judgement will be clouded. Its i notabout being less or anything, but about 'practicality'.
I think these mother in laws have every right to see if the girls can make all these items....
No they dont have the right. In my family, a girl is not allowed to cook into her future In laws house until the time she is married into the family. I dont need to impress the MILs until the time I sucessfully manage to impress her son first. Being able to cook well is no indication that the girl will keep her son happy or the family together, which are more important in the marriage than anything else
they may not have to make it in a single day after marriage, but there maybe occassions where they will be making one thing or the other..... and there are so many girls.... together they can do all this work in just couple of hours.......
Thats exactly the issue. Too many cooks in one kitchen will make a mess. Plus all the girls have a common agenda of 'impressing' someone or the other. So they may not be able to cohabitate easily. Of course, that depends to be seen.
I am amazed how some girls in this forum are so dejected by the idea of this cooking test....... I am not saying every girl has to know how to make all these things...my sister doesnt know everything... but the things in this menu are just so simple!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Simple for you, dear not for everyone. My married friend did not know to roll round rotis and it took her a bit of practise before she got it right. So what is easy and what is difficult is not for us to judge. I as a MIL would never expect my DIL to go through this. I am glad my MIL thinks like me too😳

Now its relative whats perfect cooking / menu for Parties. For some Dal chawal sabji , roti is good enough, for some they need pakodas , samsosa along with basic dishes. or even ice cream / fruit cream. soups . juices.......etc......
for some may be salad and fruit is more than enough........It depends on many factors.
Party menu varies from occasion to occasion and from person to person. For some of us, its just too much in a show like this !!! nothing wrong in saying that.

So sonu98, Lets not judge girls here in forum by saying that I am amazed that this is too much for some of you !!! specially when you dont know any of them personally and their abilities 😊

Thanks sun&shine for saying what I wanted to.

See, I am not saying its impossible to make all these things. But, its not a cooking competition, it's not anyone's wedding, its not even that you have invited PM to your house, then why take so much pain?
I can't even imagine this being simple for anyone. I am amazed at sonu for saying its simple. Agreed, some of the items are easy, but what about jalebi, samosa, pakora, ice cream, baigan bharta? I can make samosa, pakora, baigan bharta too. but, not all at once. And even if I do, my husband will kill me for taking so much pain for such unhealthy diet.
Sun&shine, I like your comment about it's certainly not any MIL's right to make her DIL go through so much trouble, and that too even before she entered her house. Me too, stayed only for a week after my wedding in India, but I know that my MIL will never make me do such a thing. Thank god for that. 😊
