Akshay Kumar: Dare 2 Dance pushes you out of your comfort zone

Bollywood's action titan Akshay Kumar, who has played host host of TV adventure reality series 'Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi' in the past, will now be seen as the anchor and mentor to contestants on dance reality show 'Dare 2 Dance'.

The actor was here on Thursday to launch the new show, which will be aired on Life OK on a date which is yet to be revealed.

Akshay will be seen guiding the contestants and pushing them to re-invent and perform in extreme dancing conditions.

"The show 'Dare 2 Dance' is risky yet exciting as it pushes you to move out of your comfort zone and prove that you can dance fabulously in any situation," he said.

To be shot in South Africa, the show will test the levels of endurance and determination of each contestant to go from good to great.

The contestants will comprise of celebrities and trained dancers, who will compete to raise the bar of dancing to a different level. They will be challenged to prove their mettle as 'Extreme Dance Ke Heroes'.

"Dare 2 Dance" makers guarantee that the new offering will break the regular formats of dance reality shows on the Indian small screen.

About roping in Akshay as the host, Ajit Thakur, general manager of Life OK, said: "Like the channel, Akshay Kumar too has successfully managed to challenge the status quo with his constant need to push the envelope and move beyond the common."

"It was this need to challenge the norms and do something different that brought us together. Through our show 'Dare 2 Dance', we hope to bring yet another unique and unimaginable concept to our audience."

Got the concept of D2D from son's school: Akshay Kumar

Superstar Akshay Kumar, who is returning to TV with an unique talent hunt 'Dare 2 Dance' (D2D), has borrowed the concept of the reality show from his recent visit to son's school in sport's day.

The show will challenge the trained dancers to prove their mettle in extreme conditions and the contestants would not be eliminated at one go.

"I would be the host and mentor of the show which would not be shot in a studio but at the outside locations. This won't be an ordinary reality show. Here the 10 choreographers from worldwide would be challenged every time, like they have to dance on ice or at a height of 6000 feet. The level of dare would be increased from level one to level 6," Akshay told reporters here.

The 46-year-old actor, who is a parent of son Aarav and daughter Nitara with wife Twinkle Khanna, said, "Unlike other reality shows, here the contestants would not be eliminated if they could not perform well initially. They would be given certain chances. I have borrowed this concept when I visited my son's school in sports day. They were given enough chances to finish a game rather throwing them out from the competition for not performing well."

'Dare 2 Dance', which is not an adaptation of any international talent hunt, will go on air from September on Life Ok and the 16 episode series would be shot entirely in Cape Town, South Africa.

The 'Holiday: A soldier is never off duty' star would also be seen shaking a leg on the show.

"The show is not an adaptation of any international show. I will also dance. Even I won't keep it comfortable for myself too. Before giving the task to the contestants, I would go there and would try first," said Akshay, who previously hosted reality show 'Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi' in 2008.

The channel feels Akshay's tough guy image would help the show to be a hit among audience. This is the first reality show on the 30 month-old-channel.

"Akshay Kumar has successfully managed to challenge the status quo with his constant need to push the envelope and move beyond the common. Through our show, we hope to bring yet another unique concept to our audience," Ajit Thakur, general manager of the channel, said.

If we go with weekend airings then it means D2D probably will air for 8 weeks...

KKK aired for 2 months, so ya it was a 16 episode show.
I hope D2D runs for 3 months.
