Sushant Singh Rajput's new Bengali girl!

Tuesday, 13 May 2014 - 6:25am IST | Place: Mumbai | Agency: DNA

Sushant Singh Rajput' leading lady in Detective Byomkesh is being kept under wraps. That's the way Yashraj Films likes to keep their projects. However, one learns from a source working on the film that he is paired with Swastika Mukherjee in this period film.

Swastika is best known to create quite a hungama in the Kolkata media -- both through her bold role (in a Bangla film titled Take One about an MMS scandal) and her bindaas statements. The never-say-no actress had many steamy scenes with her co-star.

Apparently, director Dibakar Banerjee and Yashraj Films want to keep Swastika's no-holds-barred image in check. Says the source, "Out there in Bengal, Swastika has a very bold image. In Dibakar's film, Swastika plays a traditional Bengali housewife." The effort, we hear, is to repackage Swastika's image for her Hindi debut as "more of Sharmila and less of Bipasha." Sushant is living in with his girlfriend Ankita Lokhande, with whom he is rumoured to be married, and with his film he gets an on-screen wife as well.

Didn't Swastika herself say that she isn't paired opposite Sushant and that she's just playing another important female character? 😕

THE VANISHING ACT

To prepare for their roles, Bollywood actors are cutting themselves off from the outside world; we wonder if they are following the Hollywood method acting' school

It's important for an artiste. If you really want to create something, you have to do it.
"Anil Kapoor, actor

From page 1 - B Hollywood actors are known to go to bizarre lengths to get in character. For instance, Daniel Day-Lewis apparently went incommunicado to prepare for his role in Lincoln (2012). Now, Bollywood actors seem to be taking a leaf out of the method acting book.

Anil Kapoor has decided to go off the radar for two-three months. That means no phone calls, media interactions or public appearances. The actor wants to focus on his new film (Zoya Akhtar's next) and the second season of his TV show, 24. Kapoor told us, "It's important for an artiste. If you really want to create something, you have to do it. Otherwise, you will be constantly distracted."

Similarly, Varun Dhawan has decided to "vanish" to concentrate on Sriram Raghavan's yet-untitled film: "Abhi main gayab hone waala hoon (I'm going to vanish). I haven't done anything like this till date," he told us last week. He also tweeted that "...I will be off twitter (sic)".

Some actors don't even interact with family during their prep. That's what Sushant Singh Rajput did for over three months to focus on Dibakar Banerjee's Detective Byomkesh Bakshy. While shooting, he was mostly unreachable even to his family and girlfriend Ankita Lokhande. The young actor says he is likely to go through the same process again for Shekhar Kapur's Paani. "I try to isolate myself as much as I can... This is the only way I can focus, work hard and convince myself that I have the authority to be the character," he told us recently.

Of course, when it comes to prep, one of the earliest stars to have done it is Aamir Khan. In 2012, he remained disconnected to focus on his TV show, and again for Dhoom:3. Farhan Akhtar, too, did it for Bhaag Milkha Bhaag (2013), as did Nawazuddin Siddiqui for Gangs of Wasseypur 2 (2012). "It's my habit... Everyone has different ways of working on their craft," he says.

On The Sets Of Detective Byomkesh Bakshy!

It was hard even imagining Byomkesh without Rajit Kapoor but Sushant Singh Rajput seems to be doing quite a promising job at it. The actor has come close to getting the right look for the film and has slipped in very well in the role. Losing drastic amount of weight, Sushant wrapped up an extensive schedule of the film in Kolkata and is now shooting in Mumbai itself. The actor was spotted with filmmaker Dibaker Banerjee in an abandoned mill in Mumbai's Byculla region.

The sources from the production house informed Koimoi that Rajput, who is playing the titular role of the detective in this film, shot for an important scene in which he and co-actor Neeraj Kabi (who shot to fame after Anand Gandhi's Ship of Theseus last year) stumble upon an important clue with regards to the murder mystery they are attempting to untangle. The detective duo find evidence of the dead body that they find in the film.

Sushant is indeed on a career high with projects like Detective Byomkeysh Bakshy and Shekhar Kapur'sPaani lined up for him. While the actor is constantly working on wrapping up Dibaker's film, he has also requested Shekhar and producer Aditya Chopra to give him 3 months to prepare for his role in Paani. It wasn't a wrong judgement when people said Sushant is a perfect performer after Kai Po Che. He is proving the talk valid.

Dibakar Banerjee: Detective Byomkesh Bakshi is my most expensive film by far!

The Love Sex aur Dhokha director has collaborated with YRF for the Sushant Singh Rajput starrer

In the past, Dibakar Banerjee who has made National award winning films like Khosla Ka Ghosla and Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye! has mostly worked with small producers and on a very tight budget. Detective Byomkesh Bakshi is a collaboration of Yash Raj Films and Dibakar Banerjee Productions and is made on an illustrious budget.

In a conversation with Bollywoodlife on the sets of Detective Byomkesh Bakshi, Dibakar confirmed the news saying, "Yes, this is my most expensive film. However, if we compare with other big films that are made with special effects and huge sets, my film is much less expensive than that." The Shanghai director further added, "Since I am quite disciplined and planned I always make sure that things go according to the schedule and there are no hiccups in the path." We don't doubt your ability there Mr Banerjee, considering the budget of your previous films, this is nothing less than a luxury for you. Right peeps?

Sushant keeps his mouth shut

May 12, 2014 - Natasha Coutinho |

Buzz is that while the team of Byomkesh Bakshi invited the media to the sets of the film, lead actor Sushant Singh Rajput refused to interact with them, leaving them miffed. A source on the sets says, "When the media asked him the reason behind his silence, he said that it was the film's director Dibakar who asked him not to talk about the project.

However, when Dibakar was questioned about why he asked Sushant not to speak to the media, he said it was Sushant who did not want to speak to the media in the first place."
However, Dibakar was all praises for his lead actor and defended him saying that Sushant likes to focus and gets completely into his character which is why he does not like any distractions while shooting, added the source.

Sushant, however posed patiently for pictures and was almost unrecognisable in his new look that incorporated dark make-up and made him resemble Arvind Kejriwal, according to those present!
