Pavitra Rishta seems to be a master at butchering it's own characters..
Archana -> Shows tend to make their lead characters such 'mahaan', self sacrificing people that instead of gaining respect in the eyes of the viewers, one can only feel disgusted. In an attempt to make her seem selfless and a soft soul, she gave her sister the chance to take her son and jump off a bridge with him. And then to redeem her character in a very twisted fashion, she sacrificed her two daughters as well just because Manav supposedly didn't want her a part of his life... =/ I can't even begin to criticize her actions in present time.. The fact that Manav and her 'respected' Purvi's decision and chose to not confront her other daughter or Arjun.. 😳
Ovi -> This was one character that was complex, understandable to an extent, but then her character was slashed and put down when they made her a desperate, needy, obsessed girl. Arjun made it clear to her that he loved Purvi, and she threw fits, made the rest of her family feel guilty and just as unhappy because if she wasn't happy, no one else could be. And if there was no Arjun in her life, her life didn't go on. He was the centre of her universe and all of a sudden, from a strong, successful model, we're introduced to an Ovi that's obsessive and a master manipulator.
Even now, she's shown as a weak person who gave in to the wrong choices of the same person she was once upon a time obsessed with..
Purvi -> I think the assassination of her character was inevitable considering how she was supposed to be Archana's shadow. She really did prove herself to be Archana's daughter. After all the moral lectures and the confidence she had in herself to know what's right and wrong, she ends up being the weakest character in the entire show. She made the relationship of a husband and wife a complete mockery. First with Onir and then with Arjun. How is it that when Arjun had a valid explanation for her, she refused to even listen, believing him is out of the question. But now that he's flat out telling her to her face that he did move on with Ovi, she knows he's lying? I don't understand the way this girl's brain works.. She'll catch his lies but won't know when he's being truthful?
Arjun -> I honestly loved Arjun. He was the guy that had his father as both a father and a mother. The guy who grew up missing the presence of a mother in his life yet, was taught and brought up well. He knew how to respect women even though he never had that kind of influence in his life. He respected his elders, he knew how to behave with others and he was extremely caring to the people around him. Until he fell in love with Purvi. All of a sudden, his childhood friend Ovi, no longer mattered to him and he threw her out of his life like she never meant anything at all. Not once did he think that he owed her an apology and a proper explanation before going ahead with his relationship with Purvi. And now, he's not only become a terrible person by guilt tripping Ovi into lying to her sister with him using his illness, but he's also been a horrendous father to both his daughters. This character is an ultimate disaster.
Well done Pavitra Rishta. You've done a commendable job at proving to us humans have flaws but we're not that bad.. Show some respect for such 'pavitra' relationships that you've shown but butchered..
